Cheaper… for who, and when? Near term, Cybercab still has to eat: government fees commercial insurance engineering + R&D debt parts network that barely exists power / charging grid that isn’t built for fleets A human Uber driver? No fleet payment No electric car high prices for parts No nationwide service grid that isn't there. No regulatory stack priced in yet. So yeah... the finished product looks like the future. But until the debt is paid down and the structural grid for parts and power is actually there… paying a driver is still the cheaper.

To be fair, Waymo is marginally safer than cybercab ATM. But the extra cost is too high to justify the marginally extra safety. Overtime, more than 90% of the market will conclude that the extra safety is not worth the extra cost.

Look how far out this Uber driver is. Watch right side. He decides to accelerate to rush the advanced green but already turned red. Pedestrians have already started crossing and are halfway . I also go. Uber in Toyota RAV4 slams on the brakes. This is exactly why no one will never wanna choose an Uber. As @chansoo correctly noted for years… they are leech company. I can’t wait till they go bankrupt.

I can’t hide it… Waymo is so fuckin UGLY. It has a massive roof LiDAR “hat,” radars poking out everywhere, 13 cameras + 4 lidars + 6 radars bolted on like it’s my kid’s sci-fi experiment for school. This car is over-engineered, expensive, and honestly all I can think about is not every company has a Franz and Elon. And they are losing $ on every single ride. On the other hand, Tesla simply has a handful of cameras that are hidden and integrated into the design. It utilizes pure vision AI. It’s clean. Its futuristic. It has a beautiful sleek design, and scales affordably to millions of vehicles. And all I can think of is when the Tesla Cybercab arrives, and owners can deploy their own Teslas into the Robotaxi network… it’s game over.

Huge congratulations to the Tesla team on an amazing renovation of the store. The new showroom looks absolutely stunning, and it’s one of the best places to see where Tesla is headed. I spent time there today and walked away learning even more about the Cybercab and Tesla’s vision for autonomous transportation. The attention to detail throughout the store is impressive, and the whole experience is worth checking out if you’re nearby. Seriously… go see it for yourself. Photos don’t do it justice. Trust me. If you leave that showroom understanding where Tesla is headed, you’ll walk out even more bullish on the company’s future than when you walked in. I think this is the best Tesla store in the world!

After all, they’re giving out over 100,000 paid robotaxi rides a week across cities like San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles with a fleet of 700 vehicles, and on the surface, it could seem like they’re dominating. However, each Waymo costs $100,000 due to the complex, expensive hardware that’s in use. And due to this, they’re losing money on every single ride. For Waymo, scaling this business up means higher costs, and I don’t think it’s a sustainable model, even if the company keeps pouring $ into it. Now, look at Tesla. With a fleet closing in on 7 million vehicles worldwide, Tesla is playing a different game. Day 3. Finished 5 Tesla Robotaxi rides, 4 Waymo rides, and 1 Uber ride. (See 39-minute edited video below.) Uber is in a tough situation. Classic innovators dilemma. Autonomous ride-hailing clearly is the future, but if Uber invites Waymo then that's working against their human drivers which will hurt Uber's recruiting ability (which they need to keep density especially in suburban areas). But if they don't welcome Waymo, then Uber is toast because people want cheaper/autonomous ride-hailing. Also, if Uber welcomes Waymo and Waymo cars increase then Waymo can just bypass Uber with their own Waymo app. Uber's only "hope" would be if multiple autonomous driving companies come online soon and Uber becomes the ride-hailing marketplace for them. But I think this is unlikely. Autonomous driving is just a really hard problem to solve, and with data and network effects. I think it's a winner-takes-most market. We'll see. But the more I take Tesla's Robotaxi, the more I think it's smoother and better than Waymo. And the more I take Waymo, the more I get pessimistic about Uber's long-term future.

Waymo needs expensive LiDAR, radar, cameras, specialized hardware, detailed maps, and a massive amount of infrastructure just to operate in certain areas. Tesla’s approach is completely different. Cameras are cheap. Tesla can mass-produce vehicles at a scale Waymo can’t come close to, use the same AI system across millions of cars, collect massive amounts of real-world driving data, and improve the entire fleet through software updates. That’s where the economics become almost impossible to compete with. The cheaper you can build the car, the cheaper you can operate it, and the more vehicles you can put on the road, the cheaper you can eventually make every ride. Waymo might prove Robotaxis can work. I flew my drone through Austin while riding in a Tesla Cybercab. No driver. No steering wheel. No pedals. Nobody up front. I got in, set my temperature, pressed one button, and the car took me where I wanted to go. That’s it. The closest thing I can compare it to is an elevator. You don’t get into an elevator and think about who’s operating it. You press a button. The doors close. You arrive. Cybercab felt exactly like that… except it was moving me through Austin. And after experiencing it, I keep coming back to one thought... How does Uber compete with this long term? An Uber is still built around a human driver. You’re getting into somebody else’s car. Maybe you just want to sit there quietly and get where you’re going. Cybercab removes all of that. The car pulls up. The doors open. You get in. Set the cabin the way you want it. Press Start Ride. And go. No awkward small talk. No tipping. No wondering who is picking you up. No driver needing to earn enough $ money from the trip. No business model built around constantly finding, paying, and managing millions of human drivers. Uber’s biggest asset today is its driver network. But in a world where the driver disappears… what happens to that advantage? Tesla builds the vehicle. Tesla builds the autonomy. Tesla controls the software. Tesla controls the app. Tesla can operate the network. And Cybercab itself was designed from day one around the passenger instead of around somebody sitting behind a steering wheel. That is a completely different model. Uber connects you with someone willing to drive you. Tesla is trying to make the driver unnecessary. Those are not the same game. And once Cybercabs become abundant, I'm talking in the millions, I think calling a stranger to come pick you up in their personal car is going to start feeling incredibly old-fashioned. That was the biggest thing I took away from riding Cybercab. It was how quickly every other ride-hailing company stopped feeling futuristic. After a few minutes, it just felt normal. And once transportation becomes that simple, I have a hard time seeing why anyone would choose anything else...

I flew my drone through Austin while riding in a Tesla Cybercab. No driver. No steering wheel. No pedals. Nobody up front. I got in, set my temperature, pressed one button, and the car took me where I wanted to go. That’s it. The closest thing I can compare it to is an elevator. You don’t get into an elevator and think about who’s operating it. You press a button. The doors close. You arrive. Cybercab felt exactly like that… except it was moving me through Austin. And after experiencing it, I keep coming back to one thought... How does Uber compete with this long term? An Uber is still built around a human driver. You’re getting into somebody else’s car. This is the sad state of news these days. Today, a Waymo car crashed into another Waymo, but the media hasn't covered it at all. I've seen no articles. If this were two Tesla Robotaxis, it would be all over the news. Negative headlines against Tesla generate clicks. Ones about Waymo don’t as much, so most of the media doesn’t bother to write about it. Is this crash the end of the world? Absolutely not. But the media would certainly paint it that way if it were Tesla Robotaxis. Nonetheless, the work toward a safer driverless future presses on.
