Why you should be de-optimizing, not optimizing: Where can you stop measuring? Delete Twitter, stop reading in a field, excise whole categories of information for a period. Read poetry instead. It is an activity that is almost by definition the antithesis of optimization. Then sit on your hands. Don't... show more

For the average person, that’s truly best. For the gifted, there’s no escape.

I do this but instead of reading poetry I read Kamala Harris speech transcriptions. It too is de-optimized brainless drivel.

What to do during rest periods between sets: "Whenever your heart rate is high, the very first thing is to not suddenly stop." "Shake off your shoulders, drop your hands, these exercises go back to the 30s." "Your muscle is thixotropic. It's like gel. By moving your muscle in a passive manner, you get it unstuck." "Relaxation is something that's practiced just like tension." "Do not sit and slouch, you could blow something out right there between your sets of squats." Pavel Tsatsouline on Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

''The Penis is a muscle just like any other muscle, and you can build it.'' Guys, this information is wrong. The penis is not made up of a muscle that you can build and grow, like your chest, like your triceps, like your shoulders. The penis is made up of a spongy tissue. When you are getting hard, this spongy tissue gets filled up with blood. The more blood that flows in there, the harder you become, and you end up with an erection. There are no muscle fibers there that you can train so that they can become bigger and they can grow. Enough with this misunderstanding. At the end of the day, size and shape is determined by one thing, that is genes. The same way it determines size and the shape of your nose, your ears, the broadness of your shoulders, your height as a man, genes. There is little to nothing that you can do to impact and change that. And if you're thinking about doing surgery, please, don't. It is very risky, there is always disappointments, and honestly, it is not worth it. The solution is very simple: - Stop comparing yourself to others - Focus on yourself - Stop watching porn - And above all, stop touching yourself Simple. One percent.

Stop letting social media drain you: - Mute or delete the apps that push alerts at you: Nextdoor, Facebook, local feeds - Assume the worst headline was chosen algorithmically because you cannot help clicking it - Read less about what enrages you, and only from rational, intelligent sources - Channel the outrage into one practical act: donate, vote, help practically - Go macro, not micro: join a cause instead of recycling every item in your house - Work only on what you can actually control Outrage is a candy rush. It distracts you, weakens you and drains your energy. Robert Greene on Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

How to actually stick to your habits long-term: – Stop asking "what do I want to achieve?" ask "who do I want to become?" – Every workout, study session, or rep is a vote for that identity – Small actions don't matter much individually, but 3-6 months of votes crosses a threshold – Once the habit becomes part of your story, you fight to maintain it – You stop trying to motivate yourself and start saying "this is just who I am" James Clear on Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Stephen Miller on Birthright Citizenship: There should be a 9-0 ruling in a functioning democracy. The idea that you could have a country where you just set foot on U.S. Soil, and any child you have can be an American citizen, sit on our juries sit in judgment of our fellow men and women, it's outrageous.

Andrew Huberman on the impact of vaping cannabis. "A small amount of cannabis vaped seems to help with sleep. It's probably robbing you of some slow-wave sleep and rapid eye movement sleep that would be beneficial, but I'll mention an alternative you could try. In the meantime, why not use a small amount of edible cannabis to essentially remove the cancer risk?" Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Jordan Peterson’s method for remembering everything you read: Stop highlighting. Stop taking notes while reading. Read a section → close the book → write down what you remember in your own words. Reformulate it. Connect it. Criticize it. That’s how information actually becomes part of you. What’s your take, do you learn and retain more by actively recalling and rewriting, or by highlighting and passive note-taking?

Collins: Just to clarify on the question about the seizure of the ballots in Riverside county, do you believe that Sheriff Bianco took the right step there? Hilton: I'm not going to weigh in on something that I don't have the knowledge of the facts on. I trust that Chad is interested in what we should all be interested in, which is ensuring the integrity of our elections. Becerra: Read the law. Sheriff Bianco didn't follow it. If you're not going to enforce the law as governor, then why would you want to sit in the office?

How Yoga Nidra puts you in "edit mode" for the unconscious mind: "In Yoga Nidra, you're in a trance, and in that trance you're in the edit mode for your unconscious mind." "A sankalpa is a resolve that you put in there, and that's where the rewriting comes in." "A being statement is the pluripotent stem cell of where you want to go." "Willpower is necessary when you are trying to not be narcissistic. It is not necessary when you are no longer narcissistic." "Why not just change the tendency? That's literally what we do in psychotherapy every day." Dr. Alok Kanojia MD MPH on Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Andrew Huberman: "You have a pulse of cortisol every 24 hours, a "quote unquote" stress hormone. It's not a bad hormone; it's a great hormone. But you need it released at its highest levels early in the day. How do you do that? Sunlight in your eyes increases that peak by about 50%. If you're not doing that, you start running into trouble. Studies from Stanford School of Medicine show that if that cortisol peak is shifted later in the day, you start experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, failure to sleep, and the whole thing cascades." Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

The students who feel worst about the material do best: - Read the material 4 times and your confidence climbs with each pass. You think you know it. You don't - Study it once then test yourself 3 times and you report low confidence and a low sense of mastery - On the actual exam the exact opposite is true. The test group wins - Straining for answers and getting them dead wrong is the part that works - Testing yourself once to three times before the real test is far and away the best way to lock material into those circuits Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Stop negotiating with yourself when the alarm goes off: The alarm goes off and there is no debate. No negotiating. Sort of robotic - the thing goes off and you do what you're supposed to do. Then go work out. Break a sweat and you will feel better and you will get energy from it. That is a guarantee. The only way it goes the other direction is going psycho hard: lift, run, surf and jujitsu in the same day. That is not a normal day. Jocko Willink on Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Denzel Washington in 2016. Still the most accurate media roast ever. "If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read it, you're misinformed. "What is the long-term effect of too much information? One of the effects is the need to be first, even if it's not true anymore" "We live in a society now where it's just first who cares? Get it out there. We don't care who it hurts. We don't care who we destroy. We don't care if it's true. Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice, you'll get good at, including bullsh*t."

Rereading is one of the worst ways to study: In a 1917 study, grade school kids read biographies. One group read and reread them over and over. The other group read them once, then tested themselves by pulling the details back to mind: who the person was, what they did, when. The kids who read once and self-tested vastly outperformed the rereaders, both on how much they recalled and on how accurate it was. Testing yourself isn't how you check what you learned. It's how you learn it. Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

Don't be deceived by the "x got tazkiyyah from shaykh..." gang If you can actually read alot of the time its nothing to do with studying in their classes or graduating from knowledge, just a general statement Anyone can sit and act for scholars then ask them to write on paper

How to stop procrastinating: – When unmotivated, don't clean, scroll, or wait it out – Do something harder and more uncomfortable than your current state – The steeper you drop dopamine, the faster you rebound out of it – Cold shower or cold immersion works: raises dopamine for hours and forces your system to rebound faster – The discomfort is the mechanism, not a side effect Andrew D. How to stop losing motivation for things you love - Stacking coffee, pre-workout, music and your favorite time of day raises the number of conditions you need to feel pleasure from that activity again - Sometimes do it bare: no music, nothing ingested, just the workout - Vary the peak at random. "Lower it every third time" is a schedule, not intermittent reinforcement - Tool: flip a coin before the gym. Heads, bring the music. Tails, don't - Same with social vs alone for the same activity Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.
