What if I still have the old paper one as I've never had to chang any details on it. Nor has my wife. Both still have the paper ones. Fun when you take them on holiday to hire a car.

I can never understand why the expiry date can't be written as 'expiry date' instead of 4b. Also the print is so small it's difficult to read!

You also don't need it if you ve lived in the same house before this photo licence came in. We can rely on our original green foldable ones

For lots of us with medical conditions it may be much more regularly than every 10yrs.

Because of this rule, I kept using my paper license right up to when I hit 70 years old, the I had to renew and it became plastic. Now I have to renew every 3 years

If you have a paper license then it's a license for life, you never have to renew it. You only have to pay once and not every 10 years Never pay more than once for a plastic driving licence ok.

Thanks, just checked mine and glad I did as I will need to renew at the beginning of 2027. I wouldn’t have checked and would have booked a car for my holiday and then been out of pocket as well as being unable to get around

It is worse than that. When you renew age 75, the DVLA sneakily removes your entitlement to most non-car or bike authorisations. All those courses you paid for, all up in smoke. If you notice at the time, I did not, they are supposed to reinstate the groups but not after renewal.

Why can’t they do a finger print license,no need to renew and rip people off..

£14 online, £17 by post, £21.50 if you do it at the Post Office. Same bit of plastic, three prices. And it's free once you hit 70, which nobody ever mentions.

Be aware the gov portal to renew and to confirm your ID is flaky, you alternatively visit the post office instead, which is what I've just ended up having to do.

Er no, it's not just a case of 'go online and do it'. It takes hours to do because you're forced to get a Gov ONE account that needs an ID check, then you have to give Photo ID which requires a smartphone to download a bloody app that barely works, then create a new DL account...
