How does Cardano work? What is its consensus mechanism? Cardano Community uses a uniquely energy-efficient, peer-reviewed Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism called Ouroboros. Instead of relying on energy-intensive mining hardware, Ouroboros selects validators (known as slot leaders) to create new blocks based on the amount of cryptocurrency (ADA) they hold and stake in the network.
