@insta360 Since the feature was already available over here in France, we did a review over on @3DVF with 3DGS scenes shot in Paris! Fast processing, nice results. Very interesting to see gaussian splat becoming available for a wider audience.

3d gaussian splatting is fucking cool. And now you can capture real world spaces just by walking around in your meta quest headset. The real-time feedback ensures you don’t miss a spot. Apple needs to get on this asap:

I think Insta360 opening its first flagship outside Asia in Times Square on September 19 says more than global expansion. What's interesting is how a camera brand builds enough momentum around creators, travel, sports and everyday storytelling to make people want to experience the brand in the physical world. That momentum didn't come from camera specs alone. Insta360 has consistently given creators new ways to capture and share experiences and in the process, built a community and creator culture around the products. More than 10 million cameras shipped is impressive. But to me, the more interesting signal is what has grown around those cameras: a community of people using them to document, create, and share the world in new ways. And that idea is taking another step forward today with the U.S. launch of 3D Spatial Capture. The feature is really impressive. With just a 360 camera, you can record a video of a space and turn it into an explorable 3D scene through the Insta360 app, no professional equipment, complex capture setup, or specialized software required. Once generated, you can share the scene with anyone through a link. But what excites me most isn't just the technology; it's what people can preserve with it. Imagine capturing your childhood home before your family moves away, keeping a favorite exhibition after it closes, or preserving a memorable travel destination as a 3D space you can return to years later. That's also why the Times Square opening feels significant to me. It represents the next stage of Insta360's journey from a camera brand known for imaging innovation and creator culture to a brand that believes everyone can be a creator, and is building the tools and technology to help more people bring their ideas and experiences to life. Insta360’s new Spatial Captures work on Apple Vision Pro! It’s super easy. Capture up to 2 minutes with your camera, then submit it through the Insta360 app. Mine were ready in 60–90 minutes. Open the share link in PhotoSplat 3D and boom, you’re inside.

We’ve updated our Insta360 X5 Mapping Guide. 📍 One of the most important changes is simple: keep each mapping session under 10 minutes and return to where you started. Ideally, walk for around 5 minutes, turn around, and map your way back to the same starting point. Why? Because the way you capture a location directly affects the quality of the 3D reconstruction. Better capture paths mean better geometry, more reliable reconstructions, and higher-quality Gaussian Splats like the one you see here. If you’re mapping with an Insta360 X5, make sure to follow the updated guide before your next session. Read the updated Mapping Guide: Own an Insta360 X5? Start mapping and earning with OVER: Using another 360° camera? Generate your Gaussian Splat for free on FreeGaussian, powered by OVER:

Another city. Another full 3D Gaussian Splat reconstruction. This entire neighborhood was captured while walking with an Insta360 X5, then processed with our GPU pipeline and transformed into a high-fidelity, machine-readable 3D environment with Over the Reality. What you’re seeing is not an isolated virtual world. It’s a 3D digital twin of a real-world location, built from structured spatial data where every building, street, and detail can become usable by AI, robotics, and XR. And it’s happening at scale, across cities in more than 180 countries every day. Have an Insta360 X5 and want to become a mapper? Apply here: Want to build a 3D Gaussian Splat from a video you already recorded? Do it for free at powered by Over the Reality.

Gaussian Garments: Reconstructing Simulation-Ready Clothing with Photorealistic Appearance from Multi-View Video Contribution quote from the paper: In summary, our main contributions are • a comprehensive pipeline for reconstructing the shape, appearance, and behavior of real-world garments using Gaussian splatting, • an algorithm for registering garment meshes to multi- view videos with an optimization procedure based on Gaussian splatting, and • a Gaussian Garment representation that combines triangle meshes with Gaussian textures to capture photorealistic appearance and can be used as a fully controllable 3D asset.

This is wild. Arcturus Studios is capturing real sports in full volumetric so you can explore the action from any angle. They surround the field with cameras and use Gaussian splatting to turn the game into a 3D experience. This is the future of sports.

This is huge!! Spline now supports Gaussian splats 👀 You can now capture anything in 3D from your phone with Luma, export the .ply file, import it into spline, crop, adjust, and embed on your site. Luma + Spline + Webflow is an insane 3D workflow 🔥

This will change the way we experience sports forever -- watching the game from a gods eye view. Arcturus is building 4D gaussian splatting tech that can capture every angle of a sporting event and pushes the bar for volumetric video. I tested this in a headset and it makes 360 and 3D 180 video look ancient. This puts you closer to the action than any stadium seat, and it’s genuinely mind blowing.

What stands out to me about Insta360 opening its first flagship store outside Asia in Times Square isn't simply the location. It's what the decision says about how the brand has grown. Insta360 has built much of its identity online, through creators, travel, action and everyday visual storytelling. More than 10 million cameras shipped worldwide is a pretty clear sign that the brand has grown far beyond its roots as a niche camera brand. Now, that online creator culture is translating into a physical destination in one of the most visible places in New York. The relationship between the brand and its community is becoming tangible. And I think that's what makes the opening interesting. People aren't just walking into a store to compare camera specifications. Many may have already discovered Insta360 through travel clips, action footage and creator content that showed them entirely new ways to capture and share experiences. That idea of making creativity more accessible is also a big part of Insta360's appeal. Being a creator isn't limited to professional content creators. Everyone has experiences, ideas and stories worth capturing, and the tools we use can shape how we share them. That makes the timing of the U.S. announcement of Spatial Capture for Insta360 X6 on September 19 particularly interesting. It's a fascinating feature that lets you create a 3D scan using only a 360 camera—without professional capture equipment or specialized software. Simply record a video of your space, upload it through the Insta360 app, and generate an explorable 3D scene with just a tap. It's exciting to see technology once largely reserved for professionals becoming more accessible to general consumers. What I find exciting is how this brings something that was once largely reserved for professionals into the hands of general consumers. Whether it's a home, an exhibition, a travel destination or simply a place that means something to you, the technology opens up new ways to preserve and revisit experiences. And that feels like the bigger story behind the Times Square opening. Insta360 isn't just expanding where people can experience the brand—it's continuing to expand who gets to create, and what people can do with the tools in their hands. Curious to see what this new chapter looks like for Insta360. #Insta360

Look at how crispy this 3d gaussian splat came out! The reflections in the painting have me floored. Captured with a Sony a7iii camera and 18mm lens. I posed the imagery using epic's reality capture and trained it with lichtfeld studio. Lichtfeld is my new favorite way to train splats -- it integrates all the latest research and it’s completely free. Also what I love about 3d capture -- you can process old datasets with new algorithms and breathe new life into them.
