@MedStream360 Yes. I was lucky to have attended two of his Emory courses, but not Zurich. When we convened there for the 30th anniversary in 2007, the auditorium was unchanged!!

@MedStream360 My mentor during residency in Philadelphia, Sheldon Goldberg, travelled to Switzerland to attend the course. He only had amazing things to say about Andreas. Brave man and true pioneer of angioplasty!

@MedStream360 Indeed! Andreas not only invented coronary angioplasty, but the live demonstration course and, most importantly, a community of physicians where information and experiences were shared openly.

As Dr. Geoffrey Hartzler says in this video clip, Andreas #Gruentzig was always thinking about the patient. And #Gruentzig himself addresses these issues in my 1985 interview with him. Remember this was pre-stent, so a serious complication meant emergency CABG. #AngioHistory

The #ECLIPSE trial presented by Ajay Kirtane at #TCT2024 showed that there was no difference between orbital atherectomy and POBA for severely calcified lesions. So I'm posting this clip from my four decades ago 1985 interview with Andreas Gruentzig about "The Ideal Catheter." He says: "For most of our problems at the present time, the balloon catheter is quite a good answer." #AngioHistory
