Today I challenged the Minister on sentencing for child sexual abuse material offences. Possession is not a victimless crime. Every image is abuse. Every download repeats that harm. Yet suspended sentences continue. The Minister will not introduce minimum sentences. That is wrong. • No national data on sentencing outcomes • Estimated 50–150 suspended sentences in recent years • Many cases avoid immediate custody Where is the deterrent? I will keep pushing for accountability and consistency in sentencing. #Justice #ChildProtection #Ireland

I could go to Illinois and add 25,000 beds to the state prison system and change some minimum mandatory sentences and bring that down 75%” “How long would you be able to fix that?” “If you could build the 25,000 beds this year and you could gimme the minimum mandatory sentences, 2 years. In 2 years, you drop the 75%. You don't have to lock everybody up. You just have to show them where the line is and make believers out of a few and the others will quit doing it.” “That's what we did in Florida” This should be done in every major city in America
