without spoiling anything because it’s still a game I’ve yet to play. what are your honest thoughts about Final Fantasy XIII?

Incredible story, vibe, presentation, battle system, music. Some characters start out cringe but you grow to love them all. Level design and pacing can be a little boring/repetitive. XIII-2 is fun but ruins the story. Lightning Returns feels like 1/5 the budget, couldn’t finish.

It's linear but fun. Characters are interesting. The story is a bit hard to follow. More Sci fi than some other installments. Paradigm battle system takes some getting used to, but I enjoyed it. The game is much better than it's reputation IMHO.

13-2 was a time traveling masterpiece that made up for all the terribleness 13 was.

I have more than 2000 hours on Final Fantasy games, this one I couldnt continue past around 50%, it's atrocious on every level.

It’s a good game spoiled by three things, imo; 1) combat isn’t great until much later when Paradigm Shift compositions become a must. 2) last few chapters felt too rushed to just wrap up the story. 3) great weapon/accessory upgrade system spoiled by difficult to get and grindy items. Sidenote: People who insist it should have had open areas before Gran Pulse weren’t paying attention to the story.

I loved it. I didn't mind the whole "hallway simulator" aspect as much as most, though, when there's a good story involved. And to it's credit, it does open up towards the end. At the very least, it's worth a playthrough.

First game was a slog, but the 13-2 and LR made up for it for the most part. I do like the combat system. Chapter 10 onwards def picked up the pace in 13.
