While I believe DiJonai accidentally made contact with Sophie’s face, I understand why it was called. My issue is what happened afterward. Sophie was not ejected despite pushing DiJonai and hitting DiJonai in the throat. DiJonai tried to deescalate the situation. Sophie met her with aggression and violence. I'm not sure how Sophie was able to stay in the game after that behavior. I’m calling on Cathy Engelbert, Adam Silver, and the WNBA to review what happened. Based on the precedent set by Alyssa Thomas’s one-game suspension, Sophie’s actions should warrant at least the same, if not more, for intentionally escalating the situation after the initial play and attempting to harm a player.
