Tom Coyne (Tom Coyne), editor of The Golfer's Journal, has played some of the most exclusive golf courses in the world. But when he visited a nine-hole course in New York's Catskills that had seen better days and was up for sale, he took on a new challenge: running the course for a year to see if he could turn it around. Coyne talks with Lee Cowan about his efforts to preserve a rural community's beloved course, and about his new book, "A Course Called Home: Adventures of an Accidental Golf Course Owner."

What golf course are you most excited to return to in 2026? For me, North Berwick is the one. A magical place. One of the most influential golf courses in history, but more importantly, one of the most fun. Enjoy 2 minutes of golf bliss:

With flooding issues only getting worse, Miami Lakes Golf Club was in desperate need of change. After listening to a Fried Egg Golf Podcast with architect Bruce Hepner, Danny Martinez reached out to the architect in search of help to fix his family-owned public golf course. And Hepner jumped right in. Construction to breathe new life into this golf course is well underway and slated for a late 2025- early 2026 reopening. The project includes a completely reimagined golf course, clubhouse, top-tracer driving range and restaurant. In addition to being one of the few affordable options in the area, Miami Lakes is also home to the First Tee of South Florida and other inclusive golf programs, so these upgrades will have a major impact on the local community.

AOC: Let’s put a data center in each one of Donald Trump’s golf courses. Let’s put one in New Jersey on his golf course. Put one in Mar-a-Lago. The only reason I don’t say put one on the White House lawn is because he’ll be out of there soon. If he loves them so much, he can have them.

Formerly a +8.1 Handicap floats around +4 at Carnoustie. Carnoustie has produced some talented golfers in its history. This guy is one of the most talented players in the town. He holds the course record on the Burnside (our second course where Hogan qualified in 53). The course is a par 68, Scott Mann shot 12 under par 56. His handicap went to +8.1 for a time. At that point his ball speed and club head speed were on par with Rory. Here he is having some fun with his buddies absolute melting that into the stratosphere.
