#SandyFire update - Ventura County firefighters and our mutual aid partners continue aggressive suppression efforts on the Sandy Fire south of Simi Valley. Crews are actively working to strengthen containment lines and hold the fire along the southern and eastern portions of the incident while aircraft support ground operations in steep and difficult terrain. The fire is currently mapped at 1,659 acres with 15% containment. Approximately 900 firefighters remain assigned to the incident working around the clock with helicopters, air tankers, bulldozers, firefighters and hand crews. This is how fast it happens. While crews were responding to the Gann Fire, a new column of smoke appeared. Crews moved in quickly, bringing dozers, aircraft, and firefighters to the fire before it had a chance to grow. Dozers cut containment lines. Aircraft dropped retardant and water. Firefighters attacked from the ground. The Gelding Fire was stopped at 3 acres. For a videographer, getting to capture those first moments is rare. For firefighters, this is the everyday work of keeping wildfires small. #GeldingFire #GannFire #InitialAttack CALFIRE TCU

Views from the 24 Fire outside Fort Carson, now over 1,126 acres. The fire is making a run this afternoon. “Highway 115 remains clear and the fire made a significant run to the east and north. Air resources are working along the west flank of the fire per incident command. High winds and hot, dry temperatures have increased the fire’s activity, with the fire now standing at approximately 1,126 acres and 0% containment. There are currently 125 firefighters from local, state, and federal partners on the ground” Thanks to the subscriber who shared these views of operations on the ground.

The fire is currently reported at 50 acres with a moderate rate of spread in medium fuels and located in steep terrain with difficult access. Firefighters are aggressively working from the air and ground to attack the fire. Multiple fixed wing aircraft and helicopters are assigned to the incident along with over 100 firefighters assigned to the incident. Evacuation warnings have been issued for areas east of Lake Piru to the Los Angeles County line. Residents are encouraged to follow for the latest updates on evacuations.

The fire has burned 13,790 acres and is 15% contained. Engines, dozers, hand crews, helicopters, and airtankers are all working together to slow the fire, reinforce containment lines, and protect communities in the area. 🚨#BREAKING: Multiple firefighters are on scene battling a significant mulch fire 📌#Houston | #Texas Numerous Firefighters are currently at the scene of a significant mulch fire at a Living Earth mulch facility in Northwest Houston Texas. The fire began as a small grass fire and then spread to a pile of mulch, igniting several other large mounds of mulch. Firefighters worked to stop the flames from spreading to a warehouse on the property. No homes or businesses are in danger, and there have been no reported injuries. However, firefighters are facing challenges due to the extreme heat. Arson investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Crews will continue fighting the fire overnight.

Arizona: The Dragon Bravo Fire is now 116,592 acres with 12% containment. Critical Fire weather has returned to the fire area with relative humidities dropping to 10% and 35 MPH winds. Crews are working on the North edge to keep the fire from flanking around the Kane Fire burn scar from 2023. On the southwest they are hoping to see reduced spread due to the 2003 Poplar Fire burn scar. The biggest threat of the fire jumping the containment lines is on the northern edge, crews remain vigilant and are strengthening the lines in that area and quickly respond if the fire spots across the line. #autofire; The Auto Fire is now at 50% containment and 61 acres. Overnight, firefighter addresses small, isolated flare ups and stubborn pockets of heat across the fire perimeter. The fire remains static in its original footprint with no anticipated growth. Today, firefighters continue patrolling and reinforcing containment lines as well as addressing deep seated smoldering brush piles well inside the perimeter. Resources from VCFD and Ventura City Fire include Type 3 and Type 6 engines, a hand crew, water tender and one of our UAS / Drone pilots. Firefighters will remain on scene until this fire is fully contained. An IR flight of the fire by one of our UAS / Drone pilots shows the pockets of heat firefighters are working to address. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
