How effective is the waste collection service provided by the state? I support the fine, but please provide the people with an effective waste collection service in order to succeed with this renewed effort to cleaner Lagos.

1.Stop road side trading most of the trash comes from them 2. stricter prison sentence and fine 3. Provide big trash can in market areas with lawma retrieval every 2 days, send the bill to every shop owners 4. Proper law enforcement presence to arrest people dumping on the road.

We have begun clearing the illegal shanties and market stalls built along the median of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. As we rebuild the Lagos-Badagry Expressway into a modern 10-lane highway, we cannot allow its median to become a market, a settlement or a site for illegal structures. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to trade, build makeshift shops or live on the median of a major highway. It is unsafe, illegal and unacceptable. We often compare Lagos with some of the world’s leading cities and ask why we cannot be like them. The truth is that those cities work because people respect public infrastructure and obey the rules. We cannot expect a world-class city while refusing to show the discipline needed to keep one. Dumping waste indiscriminately or building illegal structures along our highways will not move us forward. If we want a cleaner, safer and more organised Lagos, discipline and personal responsibility must become part of our everyday culture. That is how we build a city we can all be proud of.

From July 1, full enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics begins. Offenders who dump refuse illegally, litter the streets, or deface our environment will face stiff penalties, up to ₦250,000 fine or 3 months in jail. We’ve arrested over 3,000 offenders and counting, and we’re ramping up surveillance Anne advocacy. The law on cart pushers still stands, public defecation remains banned, and illegal street trading will not be tolerated. This is about saving our environment; for us and the generations to come. Let’s celebrate the coming Sallah with cleanliness and responsibility. Bag your waste, don’t dump in drains or medians, and hand over refuse to your assigned PSP operator. Today, our LAWMA Project WISE team joined Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), the Nigeria Police and OP MESA military personnel in a coordinated enforcement operation across the Ketu–Mile 12 corridor, including Ketu Bus Stop and Ile Ile. The operation focused on clearing illegal trading activities from walkways, road setbacks and other unauthorised spaces that had obstructed pedestrian movement and contributed to poor environmental conditions in the area. Beyond clearing the affected locations, the more important task is preventing a return to the same conditions. Our teams are therefore maintaining a presence in the corridor to discourage immediate reoccupation and ensure that the gains from the exercise are sustained. Lagos is a densely populated city where public space is under constant pressure. Keeping our roads, walkways and public spaces clean and accessible requires consistent enforcement, but it also requires cooperation from traders, residents and businesses. We will continue to work with our sister agencies to restore order in identified environmental hotspots and protect public spaces for their intended use. I have been briefed that the Alaba Rago median has been cleared, with substantial portions evacuated from Volks through Agric Bus Stop. Our teams have continued sanitising the already cleared sections to prevent a return of indiscriminate dumping. Work is ongoing, and we are moving systematically. The remaining stretch of the Agric median will be cleared next, after which operations will proceed to Onireke and Abule Ado/Trade Fair. We will then conclude with the heaps between Agboju, Mazamaza and Mile 2. This operation is not just about evacuation. It is about restoring order, protecting road infrastructure and improving public health along this busy commercial corridor. Let me be clear, we will sustain enforcement and monitoring across the axis to ensure these medians do not become dumpsites again. I commend LAWMA officials and the MD, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, PhD who have worked tirelessly over the past week under challenging conditions. Today being Sunday, I led the management team of the ministry on a tour of Idi-Araba, Orile Iganmu, and Alaba Rago to reinforce one message; good sanitation is a shared responsibility. From illegal cart-pushing rings to traders turning medians into dumps, we saw the urgency of our work. A clean, flood-free Lagos requires collective discipline. We are escalating enforcement against environmental infractions, especially in markets and known black spots. Traders at Alaba Rago have until tomorrow evening to clear all infractions or face full closure. The time for warnings is over. We will no longer tolerate trading on drainage setbacks or road medians. Residents must take ownership of public infrastructure - bag waste properly, subscribe to PSP operators, and stop dumping refuse illegally. Over 100 LAWMA trucks are now supporting PSP gaps across the 377 wards, and we are increasing surveillance and cleanup operations statewide. Let us be clear: sanitation is not seasonal, it is a lifestyle. With the resumption of monthly environmental sanitation soon, we’re bringing back the culture of cleanliness. We thank law-abiding Lagosians and call on all to rise to the challenge of building a Greater Lagos.

We are escalating enforcement against environmental infractions, especially in markets and known black spots. Traders at Alaba Rago have until tomorrow evening to clear all infractions or face full closure. The time for warnings is over. We will no longer tolerate trading on drainage setbacks or road medians. Residents must take ownership of public infrastructure - bag waste properly, subscribe to PSP operators, and stop dumping refuse illegally. Over 100 LAWMA trucks are now supporting PSP gaps across the 377 wards, and we are increasing surveillance and cleanup operations statewide. Let us be clear: sanitation is not seasonal, it is a lifestyle. With the resumption of monthly environmental sanitation soon, we’re bringing back the culture of cleanliness.
