The LA County Board of Supervisors made the move as the Trump admin continues to ramp up the raids. “The move allows the LA County Board of Supervisors to provide rent relief for tenants who have fallen behind as a result of the crackdown on immigrants,” the Associated Press reported. “A local state of emergency can also funnel state money for legal aid and other services.”

We urge you to take this storm seriously. Please listen to your local officials, and if you are told to evacuate, please do so immediately. Do not wait until it is too late. Already, we have sent more than 1,000 federal personnel to be on the ground in Florida to assist with preparation for this hurricane, and we will continue to scale up those efforts. And we stand willing and able to listen to the community and experts to do all that we can.” That was my message today as I joined Governor Greg Abbott and emergency response officials in Kerrville for a briefing and aerial tour of the areas impacted by the recent devastating flooding. While there is a long road to recovery ahead, the State of Texas will continue to provide the support and resources needed for these communities to recover and for every missing person to be found. On the day that marks the end of a month of sacrifice, it was fitting that we joined those who sacrifice to keep us safe at the COAS Sallah Luncheon for Troops in the Field of 2 Division Area of Responsibility in Igbeti, Olorunsogo LGA. As I said in my remarks, their welfare is our shared responsibility and we will continue to do all we can to support them to carry out their duties. May their sacrifices never be in vain and may Nigeria continue to find peace through their service to the nation.
