The technical delegation was led by Hussein Aliyu, Project Coordinator for Enserv, who headed the entire NNPCL Enserv technical team. Other members of the team included Wasiu Adeniyi, Onwugba Kelechi, Engr. Rabiu M. Audu, Ojonoka Braimah, Ahmad Usman, Akinbosola Oluwaseyi, Salisu Nuhu, James Amezhinim, Yusuf Abdul-Azeez, Amararu Isukul, and Livinus J. Kigbu. Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON described the development as a historic milestone for Ogun State, noting that the commencement of drilling at Eba could boost local economic growth, create jobs, and attract increased federal investment to coastal communities. Reports indicate the presence of hydrocarbons in the Ogun Waterside corridor, which prompted preliminary surveys and technical engagements by the NNPCL team. Ogun State authorities also conducted independent verification of the oil well’s coordinates, confirming that the discovery lies within the state’s territorial boundaries. To safeguard the project, naval security units have been deployed to the site for over 18 months, facilitated by the Ogun State Government, to protect the facility and surrounding areas. The Eba oil well project is seen as a strategic expansion of Nigeria’s oil production beyond the traditional Niger Delta region. Stakeholders say the next steps will focus on meeting regulatory standards, protecting local interests, and ensuring that commercial drilling operations proceed smoothly. Appreciation was also expressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and commitment to the development of frontier oil basins and the equitable distribution of Nigeria’s energy resources, the statement added.

Tantita Security Services, intercepted a suspicious Vessel with a Cargo of Crude oil on board on July 7, 2023. The Vessel, MT TURA II (IMO number: 6620462), owned by a Nigerian Registered Company, HOLAB MARITIME SERVICES LIMITED with Registration Number RC813311, was heading to Cameroun with the Cargo on board when it was apprehended at an offshore location (Latitude: 5.8197194477543235°, Longitude: 4.789002723991871°), with the Captain and Crew members on board. Preliminary investigations revealed that the crude oil cargo onboard was illegally sourced from a well jacket offshore Ondo State, Nigeria. There was no valid documentation for the Vessel or the Crude Oil Cargo onboard at the time of the arrest. Further investigation into the activities of the vessel at the NNPC Ltd. Command and Control Centre also revealed that the Vessel has been operating in stealth mode for the last twelve (12) years. The last reported location of the Vessel was Tin Can Port in July 2011. Details of this arrest and the outcomes of the investigations were escalated to the appropriate Government authorities, upon which it was concluded to destroy the Vessel to serve as a strong warning and deterrent to all those participating in such illegal activities to cease and desist. Destroying vessels involved in transporting stolen crude oil is of paramount importance as a strong deterrent. The illegal trade of stolen crude oil not only inflicts significant economic losses on Nigeria and legitimate stakeholders in the oil industry, but also perpetuates a cycle of corruption, environmental devastation, and social instability. Under Dr. Manmohan Singh, during the UPA years, the price of a barrel of crude oil was more than $140. The UPA government made a huge effort to shield the people of India from the adverse impact of rising prices by providing subsidies. However, when the Modi government came to power, crude oil prices had dropped dramatically. When global crude oil prices fell from 2014 onwards, the Modi government did not pass the benefit on to the citizens. Now that prices have increased, the government wants ordinary citizens to bear the burden. The Modi government took that money and used it for funding, just as it uses funds from the RBI and dividends from other companies to balance its finances. Why are you burdening the people of India at a time like this, when they cannot afford to pay that extra amount?
