An already suspended Labour member of the Scottish Parliament has been charged over allegations that a secret camera was placed in toilets inside the Edinburgh parliament. Colin Smyth, the MSP for South Scotland since 2016, had earlier been arrested and charged in connection with possession of indecent images, prompting his suspension from Scottish Labour. His Holyrood pass was deactivated on Thursday and the Scottish Parliament website now lists him as an Independent.

Keir Starmer didn’t need any extra checks to know appointing Peter Mandelson was a mistake. Mandelson has a long history of controversy, resignations and questionable associations with wealthy and powerful figures. Appointing him as US ambassador was always going to be a disaster. Astonishingly Keir Starmer left the final questioning to Morgan McSweeney and Matthew Doyle, which is an absolute absurdity. He should either have accepted the advice he was given, or questioned Mandelson himself. Ultimately the responsibility lies with Keir Starmer. If a Prime Minister misleads the House, that is the ultimate breach for a Member of Parliament and there must be consequences. When Boris Johnson was in office the Labour Party shouted, screamed and demanded accountability. This time there is silence from their ranks while Starmer stumbles on, and that is doing Britain, and the reputation of Parliament, no good.

Te Pāti Māori General Manager Kiri Tamihere, has just shared footage on social media of her in the front seat of a car on the open road with seemingly no seatbelt on, as she records her husband attempting and failing to tip water from a drink bottle on the outside of the windscreen with one hand , while driving with the other. Waititi is clearly distracted and looking down as another car flies past. This looks reckless and dangerous. Māori are disproportionately affected by car accidents, resulting in higher rates of serious injury and death compared to the total population. The press gallery should be all over this, given their response to the Doyle incident.

However, just a day after receiving the first parcel, he was apprehended and subsequently sentenced. Following the intervention of the Crime Check Foundation, he was granted a presidential pardon in 2018. He later passed away in July 2020.
