WRIGHTWOOD/DECEMBER STORMS INCIDENT EVENING UPDATE San Bernardino County Fire is devastated that many families are unable to be home together this Christmas due to the ongoing impacts of this incident. Our hearts are with everyone affected, and our crews remain committed to supporting the community during this difficult time.... Throughout the night, more than 120 personnel will continue operations to assist residents who need help evacuating and to address ongoing life safety concerns. We are grateful to report that there has been one reported injury, minor in nature, involving a pediatric patient who was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. San Bernardino County Fire remains in unified command with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The incident name was changed as the area affected expanded outside of the boundaries of Wrightwood and is now the “December Storms” Incident. SBCoFD would like to thank our cooperators for their continued support and unified efforts. The Care and Reception Center at Silverado High School is closed as of 7:30 p.m. A new shelter location has been established at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, located at 14800 Seventh St. in Victorville. This location is able to accommodate evacuees as well as pets and animals of all sizes. Once all immediate life safety issues have been mitigated, crews will begin transitioning to property preservation efforts where conditions allow. These efforts may include damming, diverting water, and salvaging property at affected structures. Fire crews will also continue to patrol the area to monitor conditions and report any changes to the Incident Commander. All current Evacuation and Shelter In Place Orders remain in effect. Residents are encouraged to continue to stay informed by signing up for the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS) and visit for incident updates. The next incident update will be provided tomorrow morning, unless there is a significant change in conditions. September Incident - Morning Incident Update The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District remains in unified command with CAL FIRE BDU on the September Incident. Overnight, crews remained committed to the incident. At this time, there are still no reported injuries or missing persons. We would like to thank all of our cooperating agencies for the strong collaborative effort demonstrated throughout this operation. Last night, Caltrans District 8 worked diligently to clear Highway 38, providing access to those who had been stranded on Highway 38. At this time, no known motorists remain stranded; however, assessment teams and field crews are continuing to search the area to ensure no other parties are in need of assistance. CAL FIRE, CHP Inland Division, SBCoPublicWorks, and other partners remain engaged in clearing roads and improving access. The SBCounty, San Bernardino County OES (Ready San Bernardino County) and California OES (California Governor's Office of Emergency Services) are also closely involved, and we are grateful for their early support in helping to accelerate the recovery process. With daylight, crews will gain a clearer picture of the full extent of damage to roads, infrastructure, and homes. SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS SAVE CHILD FROM BURNING HOME Today at 11:15 a.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District responded to a residential structure fire located on the 1300 block of N. Valencia Avenue in the City of San Bernardino. The initial engine arrived in six minutes and reported a single story residence, well involved with smoke and fire. Shortly after arrival, residents informed fire crews that their daughter, who has access and functional needs, was trapped inside the home. In response to the life-threatening update, firefighters shifted their strategy from fire suppression to search and rescue. A team was able to locate the child in a bedroom and safely passed her through a window to fellow firefighters outside. She was subsequently taken to awaiting firefighter/paramedics and transported to a local hospital, where she was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Additionally, a family dog was successfully rescued from the premises. Seven engines, one truck company, one medic squad, and three chief officers, totaling 30 personnel deployed to the scene. This incident underscores the effectiveness of rigorous training, teamwork, and the enhanced staffing levels implemented in the City of San Bernardino. Last year, staffing levels were increased to four personnel on all trucks, and an additional medic squad was added. These enhancements were crucial during this response, as the captain from the assigned truck was able to perform the rescue and hand off the child to the medic squad, who provided immediate emergency medical care. We visited the scene of the explosion which occurred at about 7.44 pm yesterday, 16 January 2024 in Bodija, Ibadan. This unfortunate incident resulted in death and injury to residents in the vicinity and also affected properties. We have already deployed first responders and all relevant agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations. These operations will continue throughout the night. Earth moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security were deployed to the scene of the incident. The wounded and injured are being treated and moved to public and private hospitals within Ibadan. Medical personnel are on standby at these hospitals to provide all needed assistance to the injured. We have visited UCH to see some of those injured during the incident. In total, we have 77 injured victims so far, most of whom were treated and discharged and 2 fatalities. May their souls rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I have directed that the medical bills of all victims be covered by the government. We will also be providing temporary accommodation for those whose houses were affected and ensuring that they are supported to rebuild their lives. Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book. I urge all residents to please call 615 for any emergencies they may be experiencing at this time and to remain calm and stay away from the immediate scene of the incident to allow rescue operations to be carried out without interference. We are grateful to the first responders, security personnel and all those who are at the scene to assist with the rescue operations as well as the medical personnel taking care of the injured. Please say a prayer for those who have been affected by this disaster as we continue with the rescue operations.

Crews arrived to find three vehicles, all with active fire and occupants trapped. Firefighters worked to extinguish flames, extricate victims, and treat the injured. One adult female was transported for evaluation of minor injuries. Two adults, each drivers of separate vehicles, were declared deceased at the scene. Highland Ave and Del Rosa Avenue remain closed in all directions near the incident to support the investigation by @sanbernardino_pd.

San Bernardino County Fire and CAL FIRE Partner on Front Country Fuel Reduction Project SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, assisted by CAL FIRE, began Phase 1 of the North San Bernardino Front Country Fuel Reduction Project. This proactive wildfire mitigation effort is designed to reduce fire risk and improve protection for communities along the northern edge of the City of San Bernardino. The project will establish a 50-foot-wide fuel break extending approximately one mile from Highway 18 west to Devils Canyon. Crews will be removing vegetation and reducing available fuels that could contribute to wildfire growth and spread. Historically, several significant wildfires have originated in this area and threatened homes and neighborhoods throughout North San Bernardino. San Bernardino County Fire and CAL FIRE Partner on Front Country Fuel Reduction Project SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, assisted by CAL FIRE, began Phase 1 of the North San Bernardino Front Country Fuel Reduction Project. This proactive wildfire mitigation effort is designed to reduce fire risk and improve protection for communities along the northern edge of the City of San Bernardino. The project will establish a 50-foot-wide fuel break extending approximately one mile from Highway 18 west to Devils Canyon. Hot, dry, and windy conditions along with lightning strikes have sparked the TCU September Lightning Complex Fire, and CAL FIRE crews are fully engaged in the response. The fire has burned 13,790 acres and is 15% contained. This will be the last update from the Northern Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team for the #Widemouth2Fire. The NUIMT Incident Commander trainee Lucas Yeamans said it best at tonight's meeting "We were fully supported here. Especially dealing with incidents like this, we empathize with you. We did the best we could to minimize the impact to you and have genuine concern for you. This community is as unique as this fire. The experience we had here isn’t what we experience every fire we go to. Your elected officials, your community leaders, your Sheriff's department, your local fire department, your state and county resources, your federal land management leaders, have all been amazing. It has been incredibly impressive to see how they work together, to see their commitment, and to see their effort. You can see their concern and their dedication. And, on behalf of the NUIMT, we were proud to be a part of that effort. We applaud you for having such a strong community, with such great leaders. We were honored to serve you, and want to say thank you." Aug 3, Fire behavior update: As of this evening the #Widemouth2Fire crews have made great progress holding the fire outside the communities of Kanosh, Meadow, and Fillmore. The western edge of the fire near Kanosh has minimal heat within most of the interior of the fire. Everything from Kanosh to Meadow is holding well. Crews will continue to secure this perimeter to get residents back in as quickly as possible. From Meadow to Fillmore, there is some heat within the line. This area experienced some spotting, but firefighters were able to catch them all thus far. From Chalk Creek Canyon and east, crews were able to construct dozer line and laid retardant line to enhance the efforts, and were able to hold the fire in the canyon. The east side is growing too quickly to go direct. Firefighters spent the day scouting and doing structure protection. Another focus was establishing safety zones and escape routes. But were unable to directly engage because of the pace of the fire. This evening the fire did reach Sevier County in its push eastward. The southwest corner experienced spotting due to northwest winds. Crews were able to pick them up and stop forward progression of the spots. Southwest of Kanosh, firefighters worked diligently to hold the current perimeter. Once the fire hit the ridge, it made a quick run.
