The role of the traffic police is to regulate traffic, enforce road safety, and issue penalties (challans) for violations. They do not have the authority to inflict physical punishment on citizens. Any act of physical violence by an officer is a violation of the law and human rights. Right to Due Process: If a rider fails to stop, the legal recourse for the police is to note the vehicle's registration number, track the owner, and issue a challan or summon the individual to court.

The menace of wrong side driving has surged rapidly in recent years in #Dehradun and elsewhere. While this was earlier limited to neighbourhoods and outer areas, lax enforcement has emboldened errant drivers of two wheelers and cars to break all boundaries. In this video that has now gone viral; we can see this brazen act of wrong side driving on a flyover of all places and that too in the middle and not on the other side of the lane. I hope that the Doon Police and Uttarakhand Police are making a note and taking a firm stand on such issues of road safety, traffic management and blatant rule violations. This careless act forced another vehicle into emergency braking due to the sudden appearance of the motorcycle from a blind spot a situation that could easily have led to a serious accident. Additionally, the pillion rider was not wearing a helmet, another blatant violation of traffic safety laws. When questioned, instead of acknowledging the danger he had caused, the rider responded with arrogance and defiance, justifying his wrong-side driving by saying, “Our office is over there, so I took the wrong side.” He further added, “Show my ID card and do whatever you can,” demonstrating a shocking level of entitlement and disregard for public safety. Such behavior is not just a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act but also reflects an utter lack of civic responsibility. It's alarming that individuals like this choose convenience over the lives and safety of others.
