Years ago at Disney Imagineering I built a novel sensor to make almost anything interactive. As a test you can put a single wire in the soil, and touching a leaf could play a note. I called this project Botanicus Interacticus. The physical world is full of signals and...

Unbeknownst to you, when I ran R&D for Angry Birds, we looked at this and considered its gameplay applications! I did a lot of research on how to do digital gameplay in real-world spaces back then.

Awesome! We did deploy the core sensing tech at the Shanghai & Hong Kong Disney parks, but not with plants. The problem wasn't technical. Living plants belonged to Horticulture, while the interactive stuff belonged to Imagineering. No one could decide who owned the combintion 😆

I was gonna say it’d be fun to see your tech in SF some time. I just saw you have the conf coming up. Any chance I could get a ticket and come say hi? As for the games applications of the plants, turns out it’s similar to the Makey Makey keyboard. Best I had was public displays and lights that responded to people’s interactions.

Very cool. I think we’ve been trained to think about signals and sensing all wrong. Always high powered or RF frequency tuned. When everything around us is singals. Sensors can be passive and sense the fields, bioelectrics, and photons, fundamental particles themselves even… it’s everywhere. Interacting with everything. We are ourselves are massive water bodied walking antennas that are emitting light. 😊

💯 we are also biased by vision. most of the data in the world is non visual.

that sounds like some wizardry especially for people who dont know how much signal noise u had to filter out

Did the researcher at least take the plant out to dinner before touching it like that? 🌱💓

Plants as interfaces, absolutely love this. Hiking reminds me that nature is the original complex system; we just needed better tools to parse its signals. Newton is elegant work 🌱

Thank you! And this isn't even the best Botanicus Interacticus demo. The visual augmentation version we did with Studio NAND crew was absolutely wild. I'll post it sometime.

Our world, let alone entire universe, is full of many wonderful and amazing gems yet to be discovered ☺️ It's super cool y'all have been able to take tech which was otherwise cast aside, and turn it into something unique 🫡

🇫🇷 PRX alecks: "To quote Ilia [something], you have to grow as people as well so that you can accept criticism. To stick together for this long, you have to make sure that everyone is progressing together, and I think that's a very difficult thing to do, and we managed to do that" zhobiii asks alecks what has kept PRX so consistent and adaptable across different metas, and which evolution of the team has been his favorite: "I think we've always tried to play the game our way. I think that's a big part of it. Also, the boys put a lot of trust in the coaching staff. It's been an honor to coach these guys. I'm very, very proud of them and they have managed to evolve as players and as people, and I think that's a very commendable thing. That's allowed them to go past metas again and again. To quote Ilia [something] because he's said this before in one of our team talks, you have to grow as people as well so that you can accept criticism. To stick together for this long, you have to make sure that everyone is progressing together, and I think that's a very difficult thing to do, and we managed to do that. And because of that, I know it's an out-of-game thing, but I think it affects how we look at the game and how we approach every situation, win or lose. We have had bad losses before and we're still here. We've learned from all these experiences. As my favorite meta, no matter what, it would be 2023 Champs when I could see Jinggg play Raze at high speed because he could really satchel really far, so we could make the most creative plans from it. After that, I think watching something play Yoru was a very pleasurable thing to witness at least too."
