It was a moment of profound reflection and gratitude to lead the Board of the ncc.gov.ng on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu last Thursday. As I mentioned during our meeting, my "PhD in Public Service" was obtained within the The Lagos State Govt ecosystem. To return now, in this federal capacity, and be received so warmly by a leader who was once my "Dean" in that school of service, is truly humbling. Our discussions reinforced the central role Lagos continues to play as Nigeria’s hub for telecommunications, innovation, and the digital economy, a position built over decades of deliberate governance and reform. This legacy, championed and consolidated under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to shape Lagos as the template for national progress. The NCC remains committed to deepening collaboration with Lagos State to ensure that the infrastructure powering our nation’s economic engine remains resilient, compliant, and future-ready. I had the honour of co-chairing and speaking at the Global Citizen NOW Summit in New York, where I joined world leaders and industry stakeholders to spotlight Nigeria’s bold vision for its creative industry. In my remarks, I spoke about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes sustainable development through strategic partnerships and private sector collaboration. With growing support from investors and industry stakeholders, we’re working to position Nigeria’s creative economy to contribute 10% to our national GDP by 2030. It was also important for me to acknowledge how Nigerian creatives have grown this industry organically without heavy government intervention. Imagine what happens with the full implementation of the frame work and institutional structures we are currently implementing. As a case study, I shared our plans for Abuja Creative Citya transformative cultural and economic hub designed to empower creatives and attract global investment. Engagements like this are critical to showing the world that Nigeria is open for business, and that our creative, cultural, and tourism sectors are ready to lead.

This afternoon at the ncc.gov.ng HQ in Abuja, I received Mr. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission, and his team on a courtesy call. Our last formal conversation in our previous roles — him as CEO of Nilayo Sports, and me as GCE of The Temple Company — was no different from this one: “How do we elevate sports in Nigeria?” Today’s overarching subject was the same. The only difference was our current roles. We discussed the intersection of sports and technology, particularly the development of a robust Sports Information Management System, the role of modern data centres in esports, and the immense economic value embedded within the sports ecosystem. We also explored the importance of intentional investment in sports as a tool for national development, job creation, and youth engagement. As Chairman of the NCC, I reaffirmed my commitment to strategic collaboration — leveraging connectivity, innovation, and infrastructure to unlock opportunities that will benefit Nigerians across sectors.

This Tuesday's strategic engagement with industry stakeholders in the ICTPCS sector was a dialogue centred on our progress in 2025 and the path forward for Zimbabwe’s digital transformation under NDS2 (2026–2030) and Vision 2030 this 2026. 2025 Milestones presented included the completion of the National AI Strategy and National Cybersecurity Strategy, strengthening our digital governance framework. Significant expansion of digital inclusion initiatives: the Presidential Internet Scheme, Telemedicine Project, Digital Skills Ambassadors Programme, and Community Digital Centres. Notable sector growth, including 14.5% increase in ICT investment and high mobile and Internet penetration. A continued focus on digital skills development, inclusivity, and public-private partnerships as critical drivers towards a fully digital economy by 2030. Stakeholder feedback highlighted the following critical challenges High data costs a major barrier to digital inclusion and adoption. Infrastructure gaps, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Slow progress in local ICT hardware manufacturing (e.g., laptops), affecting affordability, skills development, and industrialisation. As Government we acknowledge these concerns and are committed to ongoing collaboration with fiscal authorities, local government, and industry partners to: Reduce data costs, Improve infrastructure deployment, Accelerate practical, inclusive digital transformation and work on a SI on our approved reduction of fees and levies for the Telecommunications,Postal Courier and whole ICT sector. I welcomed H.E. Rune Skinnebach, Ambassador of the European Union to Ghana, to my office for a constructive meeting. We spoke about the importance of true partnerships, especially in the face of a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape. I stated that as we move forward, it is essential to review past agreements, address existing gaps, and build cooperation on equity, respect, and shared strategic interests. Peace and security were central to our exchange. Peace is the cornerstone of progress, and adopting a preventative approach to security challenges is more effective, sustainable, and far less costly than reactive measures. This requires collective commitment, early action, and strong institutional collaboration. I also spoke about the opportunities emerging within Africa in the face of current geopolitical challenges, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Ghana remains fully prepared to harness the AfCFTA’s potential and strengthen her role as a hub for regional trade and integration. Ghana values the European Union as a partner we can engage with, and we look forward to deepening cooperation in ways that promote stability, prosperity, and shared growth.

Istanbul, July 4, 2026. Chief Executive Officer of Turkcell, Mr. Ali Taha Koç, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Istanbul today. During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of deepening Pakistan–Türkiye cooperation in the digital and technology sectors. He shared the Government's vision of establishing a Pakistan–Türkiye Digital Corridor to strengthen regional digital connectivity, facilitate secure cross-border data flows, and advance the integration of digital infrastructure. Highlighting Pakistan's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the Prime Minister invited Turkcell to explore long-term collaboration with Pakistani institutions in areas including 5G deployment, network optimization, spectrum management, digital infrastructure and technology transfer. He also encouraged the company to consider partnerships in the local manufacturing of telecommunications equipment, software development, digital skills development and capacity building, noting that such cooperation would strengthen Pakistan's technology ecosystem while generating opportunities for innovation, employment and sustainable growth. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to maintaining a transparent, predictable and investment-friendly business environment, supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), to facilitate strategic investments in high-value sectors, particularly information and communication technologies. Mr. Ali Taha Koç appreciated the Government of Pakistan's forward-looking digital transformation agenda and expressed Turkcell's keen interest in exploring opportunities for collaboration in telecommunications, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies. I am pleased to welcome to Ukraine the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu. We value this visit on such a meaningful day, when we remember the Chornobyl disaster and the colossal solidarity and selflessness of our people, which made it possible to protect our country and our entire region, all of Europe and the world from an even greater radiation catastrophe. Today, Maia and I focused primarily on issues of security, our cross-border cooperation, the protection and development of infrastructure and energy, and we also had a very substantive discussion on our shared path toward the European Union. We are now working to ensure that all six clusters are opened as soon as possible and that EU membership becomes our shared success – for Ukraine, Moldova, and the entire European Union. Ukraine will continue to support Moldova on security issues – in particular with regard to the Transnistrian region. We are also ready to further develop our trilateral formats together with Romania. I personally thank Maia and all of Moldova for supporting Ukraine and for cooperation that strengthens our entire region.
