Europe must finally equip itself with real strength, real ability to defend its skies, its land, and its sea against any type of attack. In particular, this means building sufficient air defense production capacity — both against drones and against ballistic missiles. The situation in the Middle East shows how difficult it is to provide one hundred percent protection against missiles and “shahed” drones. Even in the Gulf countries, which have more advanced air defense systems than those provided to us so far by our partners and have them in larger quantities, not all ballistic missiles are intercepted. A high-priority meeting on advancing short-range counter-drone air defense. We are significantly strengthening this component within the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We approved the structure of a new command that will oversee this particular area of air defense, along with new management approaches. I also set key tasks for the Air Force team and the Ministry of Defense. First, protection against Russian drones must be reinforced in our cities, such as Kherson and Nikopol, as well as in the border communities of the Sumy region, where the Russians have essentially set up an ongoing “safari” against civilians. Every day, they strike residential buildings, ordinary infrastructure, and civilian transport. We need stronger protection and stronger action in response. The second task is scaling up our counteraction against “shaheds” and other Russian attack drones. There will be more lines of defense and protection. Third, we need to expand the experience of successful units across the Defense Forces of Ukraine, so that every solution that has proven effective for one unit can be successfully applied by other Ukrainian units. This Sunday night, Russia launched yet another barrage of missiles and drones against the people of Ukraine, targeting the Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions. This past week alone, the Russians have launched 1,920 attack drones, 1,790 guided aerial bombs, and 17 missiles of various types against Ukraine. The G7, EU, and NATO summits are ahead. And it is very important that these negotiations result in concrete decisions. We expect meaningful meetings with our partners. This week, air raid alerts have sounded almost daily across Ukraine. Just last night, our air defense forces managed to shot down nearly 50 strike drones. Over the past week, Russia has launched more than 800 guided aerial bombs, around 460 strike drones, and over 20 missiles of various types against Ukraine and our people. Ukraine is not a testing ground for weapons. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state. Yet, Russia persists in its attempts to destroy our people, sow fear and panic, and weaken us. In just a few days between December 29th and now, Russia has used about 300 missiles and over 200 “Shahed” drones against Ukraine. Prior to Ukraine, no country in the world had ever successfully repulsed such combined attacks with the use of drones and missiles, including air-launched ballistic missiles. Each additional air defense system and missile saves more lives. It is here, in Ukraine, and with our air defense, that we must demonstrate that democracies are capable of protecting lives from all types of terror. If we fail to achieve this task in Ukraine now, Russian terror will further spread throughout Europe and beyond. In just a few days between December 29th and now, Russia has used about 300 missiles and over 200 “Shahed” drones against Ukraine. Prior to Ukraine, no country in the world had ever successfully repulsed such combined attacks with the use of drones and missiles, including air-launched ballistic missiles. Global attention is focused on the Persian Gulf. But we have news too. March 2026 became the first month when, in terms of deep strikes, Ukraine reached parity with Russia. The average number of long-range kamikaze drones launched by Ukraine has significantly increased, while the average number of Russian strike drones launched against Ukraine has currently dropped to 90–110 per day. This week alone, there have been hundreds of strikes on our cities and communities – nearly 50 missiles, around 660 attack drones, and more than 760 guided aerial bombs launched by the enemy against our people. Russia will not stop on its own. The world must force it to end this brutal and unprovoked aggression. Strengthening our defense is absolutely necessary. We need better protection – air defense systems, long-range weapons, and sanctions pressure. All of this helps save lives here in Ukraine. In Kyiv and the region, our emergency services are working at the sites of the Russian strikes. The Russians have launched about 36 missiles and almost 600 drones against ordinary life. The main targets of the attack were energy infrastructure and civilian facilities, with extensive damage and fires in residential buildings. We currently have reports of dozens injured and three killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. We must work without wasting a single day to ensure that there are enough missiles for our air defense systems, and that everything necessary for our protection and for pressure on Russia is in place. It is time Europe made a decision on the frozen assets if Moscow refuses to end its drone and missile strikes. And we must certainly discuss with all partners the steps needed to bring this war to an end. Thank you to everyone who is helping.

Ukraine has destroyed one of Russia’s rarest air defense assets in Donetsk Oblast. According to Drone Forces Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, Ukrainian forces destroyed a 9S32M1 engagement radar, a critical component of Russia’s S-300V air defense system. This radar is essential for tracking and guiding missiles against aircraft and ballistic targets. Losing it severely degrades the S-300V’s combat effectiveness and is not easily replaceable. Another high value Russian system taken off the battlefield.
