ZELENSKYY: Today, Ukraine shot down 388 out of 400 Russian drones. A higher percentage of Russian drones is being intercepted, but Ukrainians are working to further increase that number. Specific solutions for the protection of Odesa and Dnipro have already been developed and will be implemented, as these cities have been especially heavily targeted lately. “This afternoon there was another massive attack by Russian drones. A significant number of more than 400 drones since the morning alone, including more than 200 Shaheds. Every year, on the first Sunday of August, we congratulate our warriors of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their professional holiday and thank them for their protection. We thank our pilots, air defense personnel, mobile fire groups, anti-aircraft gunners, radio engineering units, engineers, and everyone who does their part to make Ukraine stronger. Thousands of combat sorties, thousands of targets intercepted, and thanks to that, thousands of lives protected. Over the years of the war, our Air Force has grown significantly stronger. We have received modern combat aircraft and effective air defense systems. There are still not enough of these systems to protect our entire sky from Russian missiles, but today Ukraine's air shield is already one of the strongest in Europe. And that is thanks to the professionalism and experience of our warriors, who have proven it time and again by intercepting even the most challenging targets despite shortages of one type of equipment or another. I thank every man and woman who defends our skies and does everything every day to keep Ukrainians safe. And we will always honor the memory of all those who gave their lives defending Ukraine. Russia is carrying out hundreds of strikes against Ukrainian cities and communities, attacking our civilian infrastructure every day. This past week alone, the Russians have launched 1,920 attack drones, 1,790 guided aerial bombs, and 17 missiles of various types against Ukraine. We need to step up our countermeasures against these attacks. We are preparing for meetings with partners to strengthen our defense against this Russian terror. The G7, EU, and NATO summits are ahead. And it is very important that these negotiations result in concrete decisions. We expect meaningful meetings with our partners. First and foremost, we need support for air defense and our long-range capabilities, an expansion of cooperation in the Drone Deals format, and further strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia. We must end this war in a dignified way and with guaranteed security. And it is through strength, the unity of partners, and pressure on Russia that this can be achieved in a lasting way. Thanks to Ukraine's Defense Forces and our efforts, we were able to instill more confidence in the Vochansk direction. But Russian shelling continues, and threats remain. Today, the head of the Vovchansk local administration was wounded. We also continue to counter Russian attacks in other border areas of the Kharkiv region. There should be more of our successes in repelling Russian attacks and destroying occupiers. Russia tries to expand the war while consistently making empty statements about peace. We must use all available means to force Russia to make a real and just peace. Our defense against Russian assaults and strikes is critical in this regard. We also continue to work closely with partners to provide better basic protection to our regions, particularly Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Sumy. This includes additional air defense systems and long-range weapons. After returning to Kyiv from Kharkiv, I spoke with Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk. We discussed our defense needs, particularly "Patriot" air defense systems, which have the potential to significantly change the situation in the Kharkiv region. We also talked about Russian terror strikes on our regions in the west of Ukraine, as well as the threat that the attacks on our gas infrastructure pose not only to Ukraine, but also to our neighbors and all of Europe. We must all work together to counter this threat. Today, I would also like to thank Denmark for the new $750 million military aid package, which will strengthen our air defense and artillery. This is a very timely decision, and I appreciate it.

Today, the Commander of the Air Forces reported on the operations of our fire teams, the downing of "Shahed" drones, and countering Russian missiles. We can now say that our air defense has been strengthened. The German Patriot system has arrived in Ukraine, and I extend my gratitude to Germany and the United States for this step. We will be able to do more in the skies. While much work remains ahead and this is far from guaranteed protection, nonetheless, it means more power for Ukraine.

We are now in a new phase of development for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We have done a lot to transition the Ukrainian Air Force to a new aviation standard – Western combat aviation. From the beginning of this war, we have been talking with our partners about the need to close the Ukrainian sky from Russian missiles and aircraft. We have held hundreds of meetings and negotiations to strengthen the capabilities of our aviation, air defense, and Defense Forces. We often heard the word "impossible" in response, but we made possible what was our ambition, our defense need, and now – it is a reality in our sky. F-16s in Ukraine. We ensured this. I am proud of all our guys who are skillfully mastering these aircraft and have already started using them for our country. I thank our team for this result. I thank all the partners who are truly helping with the F-16s, and the first countries that accepted our request for aircraft – Denmark, the Netherlands, the United States, – and all our partners, – we value your support. I wish our Air Force and all our warriors to feel the pride of Ukrainians in our combat aviation and to bring Ukraine the combat results that will bring our victory closer – our just peace for Ukraine.

Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified. This time, Ukrainian long-range sanctions reached the Moscow region, and we are clearly telling the Russians: their state must end its war. Ukrainian drone and missile manufacturers continue their work. I am grateful to the Security Service of Ukraine and all the Defense Forces of Ukraine for their precision. The distance from Ukraine’s state border is over 500 km. The concentration of Russian air defense in the Moscow region is the highest. But we are overcoming it. Glory to Ukraine!

This week, unfortunately, has brought Ukraine brutal Russian attacks on Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sumy, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia. Nearly every day we face drone strikes, as well as missile strikes. In every meeting, every negotiation with partners who have air defense systems, the conversation centers on securing additional protection for Ukraine against Russian terror. Here in Europe, on this continent, there are enough air defense systems to provide Ukraine with truly reliable protection. It’s incomprehensible that some of these systems stand idle when each one could save hundreds, even thousands, of lives. We continue to urge our partners to take actions.

In every meeting, every negotiation with partners who have air defense systems, the conversation centers on securing additional protection for Ukraine against Russian terror. Here in Europe, on this continent, there are enough air defense systems to provide Ukraine with truly reliable protection. It’s incomprehensible that some of these systems stand idle when each one could save hundreds, even thousands, of lives. We continue to urge our partners to take actions.

I met with the leadership of the Spanish engineering and technology group Sener Aerospace & Defence. Today, Ukrainian manufacturers signed four cooperation documents here, three of which are specifically with Sener. The agreements concern establishing cooperation in the missile sector and air defense. This is what will strengthen the protection of Ukraine’s skies. We discussed production capabilities and bolstering Ukraine’s air defense. Strengthening air defense and protecting lives are our top priorities. We are also interested in joint projects in the field of long-range drone production. Ukraine has new developments and is ready to scale them up. We expect that all agreements between Ukrainian and Spanish manufacturers will be implemented as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and readiness to work together.

Seven days of large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine: over 1,800 drones, more than 1,200 guided aerial bombs, and 83 missiles of various types. The Russians are intensifying terror against cities and communities to increasingly intimidate our people. But despite Moscow's plans, the air defense forces are achieving good results. Interceptor drones are performing particularly well, with hundreds of Russian-Iranian “shaheds” shot down over the past week. And every meeting with partners this week was about scaling up this technology. I am grateful to everyone willing to invest in the protection of life, and to our warriors who safeguard the Ukrainian skies. “Shaheds” are one of Russia's ways of prolonging the war. We must neutralize this threat in order to bring diplomacy into motion sooner. We hope for the implementation of all agreements that will strengthen our defense. We count on strong decisions from the United States, Europe, the G7, and all our partners.

I have just held a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Reports were delivered by representatives from all our regions and major cities. The experience of this past winter will form the basis for future decisions, specifically: upgrading protection for infrastructure, logistics, and key energy facilities; restoring sites damaged by Russian strikes; and ensuring additional energy sector capacity. At the NSDC, resilience plans were approved for all Ukrainian regions and regional cities, except Kyiv, which was granted extra time to prepare the relevant substantive documents. Kyiv was not ready today – just as it hadn’t been this past winter. For the next season, it is essential to get ready and complete every task. Every city and every Ukrainian community must be prepared for any scenario next winter and for providing real support to people. The Government of Ukraine, in particular the Ministry of Defense, and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have received the necessary tasks and will assist regions in preparing. I thank everyone who is truly working for Ukraine, for the defense of our state and people. Glory to Ukraine!

In just a few days between December 29th and now, Russia has used about 300 missiles and over 200 “Shahed” drones against Ukraine. Prior to Ukraine, no country in the world had ever successfully repulsed such combined attacks with the use of drones and missiles, including air-launched ballistic missiles. Only today, 10 Kinzhals were shot down. I am grateful to every warrior in our Air Forces, all fighters in mobile air defense groups, every anti-aircraft gunner, and everyone throughout the world who is assisting Ukraine by providing weapons to defend our skies. Each additional air defense system and missile saves more lives. It is here, in Ukraine, and with our air defense, that we must demonstrate that democracies are capable of protecting lives from all types of terror. If we fail to achieve this task in Ukraine now, Russian terror will further spread throughout Europe and beyond. The Russian leadership's sense of impunity, forged over decades of unrestricted authority, has already resulted in a lot of suffering and loss of life. Russia must confront the responsibility for taking lives as well as the power of those who protect them.
