This team batting has a runner on first, less than two outs. Batter drops a beautiful bunt. The third and first base girls charge hard towards the ball. The shortstop covers second and the second base girl covered first. Textbook defense on a bunt. But the offensive team has practiced this play before. The girl at first had no intention of stopping at second base with the shortstop there and third base girl charging hard near home plate. She doesn’t break stride and heads toward third with no one there….or so she thought. 😳 The third base girl fields the ball, turns and fires to third base to get the runner. Look who is covering third base. 🙌 As well as the offensive team practiced that bunt play, the team on defense was equally as well coached. 💯 Excellent job ladies.

🚨CYCLE SCORING ALERT🚨 Tons of folks sent this one in from the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets game, with Bryce Harper completing the cycle with this fifth inning triple. I believe this was scored correctly as a triple. This falls under Rule 9.06; Determining the Value of Base Hits. The key is Harper never slowed down at all and was going for third the whole time. One of the things the scorer has to determine is whether or not Harper went to third on the throw or not. He obviously was going for third regardless, and the fact that he would have been out is inconsequential here. The OS Manual states this: “Had the bases been empty, would the batter-runner have attempted to advance the extra base? If not, the value of the base hit should not include the additional base.” The answer on this one is yes, Harper would have ATTEMPTED to advance. Doesn’t say if he would have been safe. Since he would have attempted this regardless of the throw home, he was, IMHO, correctly credited with a triple.

This bizarre incident happened in the Red Sox and Orioles baseball game. A single was hit to left field and Wilyer Abreu from the Sox was being waved around third base to score. The throw came home and he was initially ruled safe but the Orioles challenged it and the call was overturned. But as you can see, that wasn’t the bizarre part. Third base coach Chad Epperson went onto the field of play to wave Abreu home. 🤯 In all my years playing, coaching, umpiring and watching baseball, just like the announcer said, I have never seen that in all my life. 💯 Have you ever seen anything like that in your life? Maybe a T-Ball game, but wasn’t that one of the oddest things you have ever seen in a baseball game? What was he doing?
