Recently tweeted about this movie since I saw it again this weekend. It’s still holds up for the younger crowd and is a great introduction into the world of Sherlock Holmes for them. Also, when I originally saw it in theaters, I hadn’t noticed that Henry Winkler is a producers.

A power-hitting first baseman and Gold Glove defender, Bill White was part of a core of Black All-Stars who helped the Cardinals capture the 1964 World Series title. After his retirement, White became the first Black play-by-play broadcaster in MLB history when he joined the Yankees broadcast team in 1971, and later served as President of the National League. He was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2020.

Amrish Puri was an extraordinary actor, especially in character roles. For most of his career, he was cast in villain parts in commercial cinema, which sadly made many overlook his range and deep theatre-rooted craft. This is one of his finest performances, Virasat. I think it was Priyadarshan’s last serious film; after this came Hera Pheri, and much of his later work leaned towards comedy. Don’t miss the 1 minute 20-second continuous-shot scene.

Women jumped into the well to save their lives or died by consuming poison. All this continued till the night of 12 April 1948, and on the morning of 13 April, a new dawn came and when the #IndianArmy ended the terror by recapturing Rajouri town. This is the lesser known history of Rajouri Day which is being celebrated today. #RajouriDay

Possibly the greatest movie actor of all time who died relatively young. Godfather actor John Cazale who played Fredo would have been 90 years old today. I regard the performance from Cazale, in this scene, as the highest peak you can reach in acting. This level of acting has certainly been matched but, in my opinion, never bettered. His voice, his mannerisms, timing and the look in his eyes. It’s perfect. You could almost believe that Fredo was a real person that jumped into the body of John Cazale. A work of genius. Happy birthday in the stars 💐

A ZAOGA FIFMI-ZAOGA FIF church elder has been caught after grooming a teenage child for intimacy. The male is heard in a viral audio speaking with the 16 year old and luring her. This is shortly before he is confronted by the mother. While the church is still to issue a comment, the institution has a long history of covering up evidence of child abuse for more than 20 years, and its founder Ezekiel Guti (who claimed he was sent by God) concealed evidence of his brother, Nelson, who was later convicted of child sex abuse in 2004. The latter is still serving as a bishop in the church although he is a convicted felon.

Who Is Robert Mallary? Robert Mallary was one of the most successful American artists of the 1950's, known at the time mostly for his trash and assemblage and resin-based works. When the industrial resins he worked with severely poisoned him he was forced to abandon the practices that had made him famous and focus instead on digital art, possibly the first professional American artist to do so. Working at first with punch cards, he began a decades-long affair with what he called cybernetic art, the fusion of man and machine as a single creative entity. When he passed away in 1997 the work in his studio was cherry-picked by dealers and gallerists and much of the trash and assemblage work was hauled away. Surprisingly to modern sensibilities, almost all of the digital work was left untouched. This included thousands of plotters, reams of code, and even one of the first 3D prints in history, Quad II. It simply wasn't viewed as art yet. In 2019 the studio was finally sold and the remaining work was placed in a shipping container in New England, which is where we found it in 2021! Since then my life has been consumed by exploring Bob's complicated and expansive legacy through the archive and interviews with his family and friends. We've produced film and written works, reproductions of his sculptural work, a live exhibition at Pioneer Works, as well as minting progressively more of his work on ETH, both as 1/1s and editions. I'm looking forward to sharing more of Bob's work in the coming years, and I greatly appreciate everyone who has supported the project so far!
