@TiCLme This is very good advice especially during long hot dry summer periods. To conserve moisture use grass cuttings around the base of the tree, but keep them about 1ft away from the stem/trunk.

LET ME TELL YOU A STORY!!! 🌳🤗🌳❤️🌳 In the 1970s, women of Reni village, Uttarakhand, hugged trees to save them from being chopped It came to be known as the Chipko Movement The women were protesting against the government's allocation of forest land to contractors for logging and commercial purposes because it led to environmental degradation The movement was so powerful that the then prime minister Indira Gandhi was forced to make changes to the existing law The Forest conservation act of 1980 was born! Did the forest belong to the people? Did the trees belong to those villagers? But why did the women fight? Governments as such don’t OWN the land, the air, the water or you or me! Governments are ONLY custodians of the resources. They aren’t super powers. They cannot and should not make unilateral decisions. People are allowed to and should protest when the environment is in danger. Since this is still a democracy! Be it Aarey, Hasedo, Aravalli, Narmada Bachao, Save Lakshadweep or even Save HCU people are protesting against government NOT because it is their land or their trees or their water. This family went out of town for vacation. When they got back they noticed the neighbor had cut down some branches from their tree that were hanging over to their side. No discussion, no contact, they felt like they waited until they were gone to trim the tree. Many people said that if it is on their side hanging over they have every right to cut those branches. A lot of people brought up “Tree Law” and suggested she had a case. 🤔 Looks like there are more branches that hang over as well. We have many trees in my neighborhood and many of us share trees that give us shade and hang over each other’s property. Apparently there is a whole section dedicated to laws that govern trees between neighbors. 🤯 Have you ever heard of “Tree Law”? What would you do if you were the neighbor? If you were the owner and had come back and noticed your tree limbs cut?

One of the gentlemen, one of the great leaders of Austria says we don't have forest fires, we have trees that are more flammable than in California but they literally rake their forests, if it trickles down they take it down. They say you have 18 months and after that it is a matchstick. I know some environmental groups like the trees to melt into the ground but when they do they become an inferno. You have to change your ways.

In my experience of randomly checking landscaping projects around the country, the death of newly planted trees often exceeds 50% of the total number planted. This is a staggering rate of failure that would just not be tolerated in other walks of life. Would you accept a 50/50 chance of a new TV not working the first year of use? Through a process of elimination, it is often possible to identify the likely causes of the death of newly planted trees, with contractor incompetence in plant transport, storage, and planting, seemingly being the most likely.

This woman had just planted some new hydrangeas. Now she has to dig them up because her husband told her that they will block the house too much. So much for having some curb appeal. I'd much rather look out my window and see hydrangeas than dirt and I'd much rather be driving up to the house and see the hydrangeas than underneath the house. Is your gardening a collaboration with your husband or wife or does one of you control the design of the outside of the house when it comes to flowers, shrubs, and trees? What if your husband told you to dig them up after you just planted them because they were going to block the house? What would you do?

Whilst it’s sad to see, we’re used to newly planted saplings or individual street trees dying from lack of water. I don’t think we’re prepared for the shock of seeing our precious native deciduous woodlands around our dying as a result of drought though. This weekend I was in a native woodland in Norfolk, and saw whole areas of the forest where trees were in a bad way. Many of the trees had clearly run out of water, with their leaves brown, crispy & burnt. Some trees are likely to die from this drought, many more if droughts keep happening. Will we just standby & watch our forest & ancient woodlands die? We need immediate action on the ultimate cause of climate change of course. But given that extreme heat & drought is already here, we need to urgently put together a strategy to enable our forests to adapt to the changing climate as far as they are able to. Obvious things to do include restoring ancient woodlands to health by removing invasive species like rhododendron & cherry laurel; getting rid of non-native pine plantations & replacing with native trees that are more drought tolerant; blocking up drainage & creating ponds & swales so that woodlands retain water; expanding woodlands & creating buffer zones around them. These are just a few ideas: more than anything, we need government to listen to tree experts, come up with a proper plan & then have the will to implement that plan as a matter of national importance. Without this, we may lose much of our ancient woodland in our lifetime.

By placing a bag over a branch with leaves and attaching a straw to one corner for drainage, you can create a reusable water source. Important to note: • The setup must be as airtight as possible. • Different trees release varying amounts of moisture. • According to my observations and experiments, leaves produce less water by the third day. Give this method a try, and you’ll be amazed at how much water leaves can provide!

Yorkshire, starting on Friday 11 July, a temporary use ban (TUB), which is a restriction on the use of hosepipes, will come into effect. This will help our region’s reservoir levels recover and protect Yorkshire's water resources throughout the summer months, following one of the driest springs on record and the region being in drought. We've tried everything possible to avoid these restrictions, and despite our customers' help to save water where they can and our efforts to manage water resources, including adding an extra 100 people to our leakage team and upgrading our infrastructure to reduce leaks and bursts, the dry weather and warmer-than-usual temperatures have increased demand. We have supplied an additional 4.3 billion litres of water between April and June compared to a typical year - that's enough to supply Leeds for five weeks. This has left our reservoirs more depleted than expected and lower than average for this time of year. As a result, we’re kindly asking everyone to please put their hosepipes away for a bit. We understand you may have some questions about the restrictions. You can find detailed FAQs, including activities covered by the hosepipe restrictions and who would be exempt from it, on our website at or watch the video below to see how this might affect you. The restrictions will be in place until the region has seen significant rainfall to bring reservoirs and groundwater stocks back to where they need to be. This may last into the winter months, but rest assured, we will lift it as soon as we are able to. Today at the Eko Amore Gardens in Lekki, we marked the 2026 Tree Planting Day with a powerful demonstration of our collective commitment to a greener and more climate resilient Lagos. I had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu , ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, along with the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, our Tree Champions, and community leaders. The theme for this year, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” speaks directly to the fact that environmental stewardship is a duty we all share. Tree planting is not a ceremonial event, it is a strategic environmental intervention and one of the simplest, most effective nature based solutions to combat extreme weather, flooding, biodiversity loss, and rising temperatures. The Governor charged all Lagosians to not only plant trees but to nurture them to maturity, and he set a clear target of 20,000 trees for this year. As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, health, and a lasting legacy for generations to come. This is how we build a #CleanerLagos and a truly #GreaterLagos.

As of June 30, we had already planted 13,401 trees representing 67 percent of that target, and a new planting season has now commenced across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, running throughout the rainy season until October. I am pleased to announce that every LGA and LCDA Chairman has been designated as a Tree Custodian, responsible for nurturing and monitoring the trees planted in their jurisdictions for a minimum of 12 months to ensure survival. The Governor also unveiled the 20 Lagos Tree Champions, outstanding individuals and organisations whose contributions are advancing the greening of our State. I urge every resident to obtain free tree seedlings from LASPARK’s Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency - LASPARK nurseries, plant in your homes, schools, offices and communities, and nurture them. We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, health, and a lasting legacy for generations to come. This is how we build a #CleanerLagos and a truly #GreaterLagos.

This man who is a landscaper said you should never build a tree coffin around a tree. He said it ends up making the tree die by restricting the roots and having too much mulch. I never knew they were called "tree coffins". I looked it up and it does say they can be very detrimental to your tree if not done correctly. The pavers can restrict root growth and the mulch shouldn't be too thick or torching the base of the tree. I have seen some pretty nice "tree coffins". I never knew they were bad for your trees. Do you have these around your trees? Did you build one a certain way that allows your tree to flourish? What about the people who cemented their pavers together and in the ground?
