It's super interesting how similar this painting technique is to gaussian splatting in computer graphics.

rocks seem so simple in concept but so challenging to get right. had to do some rock studies recently for an art piece... harder than any foliage to get right 😵‍💫

There are some things you can get away with painting flat-ish. But rocks just looks like awful blobs if they don't have solid form to them

that makes a lot of sense. every time i had base form established and tried to cut into it with details it would fall apart and i'd have to start over. eventually figured it out though :D
