YouTuber AlphaPhoenix pulled off something that sounds impossible. He recorded a laser moving across a room at 2 billion frames per second. That is fast enough to watch light itself travel, something the human eye can never perceive in real time. The camera he used was not a normal... show more

He didn’t record a laser. He built a composite video of what a laser traveling would look like

Very cool and reminds me of how cartoons used to be drawn, one frame at a time. Doing this with a laser though is awesome

That same frame-by-frame mindset, just using light instead of ink

I really do not think he would be able to synchronize. It sounds like he shot a bunch of pictures, showing light at different positions, and then put them in order afterwards. Which is somewhat very different from the claim that he recorded the laser moving.

Source "A laser pointer at 2 billion fps makes the speed of light look.. kinda weird"

one pixel at a time to show light moving? that’s next level patience and genius

Patience stretched thin enough to let light be seen

It’s the perfect example of how "smart" engineering can beat a massive budget. He essentially built a $250,000 streak camera using a garage setup and a few hundred lines of Python.

So your claim that this is a video of a laser moving is a lie, it is a composite of many lasers to show an effect.

So it’s a totally fabricated picture based on his imagination

Original Video:

In the vacuum of space, yes, the speed of light maxes out. However, in your room, going through air, light is slower than max speed. Other slowing media are: - Air → ~0.03% slower - Water → ~25% slower - Glass → ~33% slower - Diamond → ~41% slower

He did some related testing with a siglent oscilloscope:

So what you are saying is he used stop frame animation? And we are supposed to pretend it’s a scientific breakthrough? I guess you never saw, “The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad”

❤️👍

In this video, it helps to think of the laser as information being introduced into space. A laser pulse isn’t a thing travelling so much as a structured change in an electromagnetic field, carrying timing, phase, and energy. What makes this especially compelling is that nothing about light is forced to slow down. The experiment works because the measurement aligns with spacetime constraints and reconstructs the ordering of field changes across space. The “speed” here isn’t motion in the everyday sense, but the boundary that governs how reality updates itself. This isn’t really about watching light move fast. It’s about learning how to see change in a field that already exists everywhere, under a strict spacetime limit. When measurement respects boundaries instead of fighting them, even phenomena we can’t directly perceive become intelligible. That lesson scales far beyond optics. Civilisation-scale systems — energy, AI, economies, planetary infrastructure — don’t become stable by overpowering limits, but by aligning with the boundaries that govern how information, coordination, and coherence propagate.

Why is it moving upwards? If it's because the laser is tilted, what does it look like if it is level? And if it is level, why does it continue to move upwards at an angle? Does it ever move downwards?

I think he did not record the light moving. It is a simulation of movement. it is different thing.

This is nonsense. A detector / CCD can only record photons which strike it. What the image shows (assuming it's not artificially generated) are photons reflected off particles suspended in the air in different parts of the room, NOT "light moving from one side to the other".

From the photon's perspective, there was no time delay or distance.

Actually once u saw the room light up, light was everywhere in disbursed gradient, the concentrated beam was just the organized light

I wonder if he can catch ghosts?

THIS IS MARVELOUS 💯 WE'RE SO CLOSE TO FIGURING OUT HOW TO HARNESS LIGHT ⚡️

here instead of pixel, you mean frame right? must have set the camera to go off each time progressively in increments of 2 billionths of a second on each run? or to do the same thing faster, use a high speed camera and shift the phase of the shutter by that much each time

Pardon my language but Holy shit!

We need 8k version of this video!!

Technically he recorded scattered photons correct?

🤯

@grok How much does that camera cost?

So Einstein was right.

How truly beautiful and amazing that is!

Cool

there are people who perceive /see , experience energy /light ( Chi , Ki or Prana ) this way , healers who can with patience and practice, can actually see energy ( light ) moving like this , tho its so far impossible to prove scientifically . Interesting post .

@grok that’s where Universal High Income would land seamlessly, we’d all have more cool experiments.

Hehe should we bring up quantum effects?

@grok how is it even possible?

But shouldn’t the photon hit the sensor of a camera to be seen?
