It's such an exciting time to be an artist on the internet. We now have the technology to build out our worlds, in spaces we own, it is truly the age of ideas. I've built a new home for my projects here, and in advance of my next major release with Transient Labs on June 16th, I want to share what I've made with you all, and open a dialogue about how we can use these tools as artists to enhance the experience of making and sharing our art. This is an overview of davekrugman dot com (link in thread), specifically about new sites for Drip Drop and DRIVE, and to that end, I'll give a work from each project to someone who reshares this post. If you are an artist who is curious on how to build a site for yourself, I would be happy to help, I'm an open book, ask me in the comments below. There are so many tools to use- I mostly used Claude / Anthropic- and now we can literally speak our ideas into reality , the possibilities feel truly infinite, if you have curiosity, patience, and a bit of time to explore a new frontier. For too long, artists have had to build on the rented space of social platforms, and now it feels like we can really create sovereign spaces that we own and make ours with our unique vision. I was born inside Marshall BioResources (MBR), located at 5800 Lake Bluff Road North Rose, NY. They have 23.000 beagles waiting to be sold to testing labs. Many of these beagles are killed after being tortured. After a year of living inside MBR, I was sold to a testing lab in Pennsylvania. They conducted torture tests on me for three years. VEO 2 by Google DeepMind : MY CHEAT SHEET Alright, so after 500h-ish spent on VEO and giving birth to both "Kitsune" and "Banished", tons of people asked for a making-of. Instead, I decided to give you what I actually know of VEO 2 to this day. Please share! it's made to be spread around! 1/ If you're not using a LLM (Gemini, ChatGPT, whatever), you're doing it wrong. VEO 2 currently has a sweet spot when it comes to prompt length: too short is poor, too long drops information, action, description etc. I did a lot of back and forth to find my sweet spot, but once I got in a place I thought felt right, I used a LLM to help me keep my structure, length, and help me draft actions. I would then spent an extensive amount of time tweaking, iterating, removing words, changing order, adding others, but the draft would come from a LLM and a conversation I built and trained to understand what my structure looked like, what was a success, or a failure. I would also share the prompts working well for further reference, and sharing the failures also for further reference. This would ensure my LLM conversation became a true companion. 2/ Structure, structure, structure Structure is important. Each recipe is different but same as any GenAI text-to something, it looks like the "higher on the prompt has more weight" rule applies. So, in my case I would start by describing the aesthetics I am looking for, time of day, colors, mood, then move to camera, subject, action, and all the rest. Once again, you might have a different experience but what is important is to stick to whatever structure you have as you move forward. Keeping it organized also makes it easier to edit later. 3/ Only describe what you see in the frame If you have a character you want to keep consistent, but you want a close-up on the face for example, your reflex will be to describe the character from head to toe and then mention you want a close-up...It's not that simple. If I tell VEO I want a face close-up but then proceed to describe the character's feet, the close-up mention will be dropped by VEO... Once again, the LLM can help you in this by giving it the instruction to only describe what is in the frame. 4/ Patience Well, it can get costly to be patient, but even if you repeat the same structure, sometimes changing one word can still throw the entire thing out and totally change the aesthetics of your scene. It is by nature extremely consistent if you conserve most words, but sometimes it happens. In those situations, trace your steps back and try to figure out which words are triggering a larger change. 5/ Documenting When I started "Kitsune" (and did the same for all others), the first thing I did was start a Figjam file so I could save the successful prompts and come back to them for future reference. Why Figjam? So I could also upload 1 to 4 generations from this prompt, and browse through them in the future. 6/ VEO is the Midjourney of video Currently, no text-to-video tool (Minimax being the closest behind) gave me a feeling I could provide strong art directions and actually get them. I have been a designer for nearly 20 years, and art direction to me has been one of the strongest foundations of most of my work. Dark, light, happy, sad, colorful or not, it doesn't matter as long as you have a point of view and please...have a point of view. Recently watched a great video about the slow death of art direction in film (link in comments) and oh boy, did VEO 2 deliver on giving me the feeling I was listened. Try starting your prompts with different kinds of medium (watercolor for example), the mood you are trying to achieve, the kind of lighting you want, the dust in the rays of light, etc... which gets me to the next one 7/ You can direct your colors in VEO It's as simple as mentioning the hues you want to have in the final result, in which quantity, and where. When I direct shots, I am constantly describing colors for two reasons: 1. Well, having a point of view and 2. reaching better consistency through text-to-video. If I have a strong and consistent mood but my character is slightly different because of text-to-video, the impact won't be dramatic because a strong art direction helps a lot with consistency. 8/ Describe your life away Some people asked me how I achieved a good consistency between shots knowing it's only text-to-video and the answer is simple: I describe my characters, their unique traits, their clothing, their haircut, etc..anything which could help someone visually impaired have a very precise mental representation of the subject. 9/ But don't describe too much either... It would be magical if you could stuff 3000 words in the window and have exactly what you asked for, right? Well, it turns out VEO is amazing with its prompt adherence, but there is always a moment where it starts dropping animations or visual elements when your prompt stretches for a tad too long. This actually happens way before the character limit allowed by VEO is reached, so don't overdo it, it's no use and will play against the results. For info, 200-250 words seems like a sweet spot! 10/ Natural movements but... VEO is great with natural movements and this is also one of the reasons why I used it so extensively: people walking don't walk in slow-motion. That being said, don't try to be too ambitious on some of the expected movements: multiple camera movements won't work, full 360 revolutions around a subject won't work, anime-style crazy camera movements won't work, etc... what it can do is already great, but there are still some limitations...

FREEBIE Behind the Scenes post! I reference Minecraft a lot on the comics because it's more well known, but 10yo's true love is a game called Terraria (basically Minecraft, but 2D and a LOT more stuff!) He's such a huge fan that his last TWO birthdays have been Terraria themed! With the internet being the cool place it is, after posting about my kids obsession, I became mutuals with the creator of Terraria, Redigit! HUGE Mom Cred earned!!! 😎 We got to chatting and at one point he said something along the lines of "So when's the Terraria comic coming?" He was joking, but now I wanted to make it happen! The problem was, Terraria is a bit more niche than Minecraft, so I needed a way to reference it while still appealing to everyone. I came up with the idea of Fran trying to keep up while Vincent switches through games. Terraria and Minecraft were obvious contenders, but I needed a #3. 8yo had been playing a lot of Pokémon, so that was my first idea, but Pokémon now looks very different to the classic look I wanted to draw. I was stumped on the 3rd game for a while until my kid brought up Animal Crossing! I'd drawn the family as Animal Crossing characters back in 2020 so it would be great to have an excuse to use them in a comic! I got to work on the comic by tracing real game characters and tweaking them to make them my own. I redid the Animal Crossing ones, making them closer to real cat characters in the game, but after looking back at my 2020 reedition, I decided to go with that one instead because it was more fun! When it came time to draw the Terraria characters, I showed 10yo the comic and asked if he could help me by designing some in-game characters I could trace. He was OUTRAGED! Not at the request, but at the fact Vincent goes back to Minecraft at the end instead of his beloved Terraria! I explained that the Minecraft movie was coming out, so it would be good for the comic to start with Minecraft Fran, but he wasn't having any of it and refused to help me until I changed it. Well what choice did I have?! I changed it! 😅 I didn't actually end up using the in-game characters he made (turned out easier to adapt models I found online) but I gleefully took his clever idea of doing game chat boxes instead of speech bubbles! ‼️Turning Point Action Is Now Abusing the DMCA Copyright Takedown Process to Silence a Journalist Who Refuses to Stop Asking Questions About Charlie Kirk’s Assassination First they tried to drown me out with bots and their network of paid influencers. When that failed, they sent multiple Cease & Desist letters trying to scare me into silence. When that failed, they resorted to filing repeated, frivolous DMCA copyright takedowns in a clear attempt to get my account banned. Here’s the full timeline: Right after Charlie was assassinated, I put a photo of him as my profile picture as a memorial. Charlie was one of the biggest reasons I started this channel. He was my role model. That original image was a Gage Skidmore photograph that had been published under an irrevocable Creative Commons license. For those who don’t know: when a photo is released under Creative Commons, the creator is giving the entire public permanent permission to use, share, and even modify that image without needing to ask for further permission. The license cannot later be revoked. Turning Point Action later claimed exclusive ownership of that photo, sent a Cease & Desist, and demanded I never use Charlie’s name, image, or likeness again. I rejected their overreach, replaced the image, and eventually switched to a completely AI-generated image of Charlie that has zero connection to the original photograph. My bio has clearly stated the entire time that the profile photo is AI-created and that this account is not affiliated with or endorsed by Turning Point. Despite that, they filed a DMCA copyright notice on July 29 and got my profile photo removed. I filed a counter-notice. They then filed a second, nearly identical DMCA copyright notice on August 3 against the brand-new, completely AI-generated image and got that one removed as well. I again submitted a counter-notice. I then reached out to X Legal Support, informed them of the full situation, and they reviewed it and stated in writing that my account is not in violation of their copyright policy. I sent Turning Point my own Cease & Desist laying out the facts and demanded they stop filing frivolous DMCA notices against my account and withdraw the two they had already filed, since X itself confirmed I was not in violation. You would think at this point they would realize their tactics are futile and give up. Instead, they refused to withdraw the notices, doubled down with even more aggressive language, and sent me a fourth Cease & Desist. They are still trying to claim ownership over a completely AI-generated image they do not own, and they are still trying to use the copyright system as a weapon to silence critical journalism. Charlie Kirk never would have used these tactics. He believed in free speech, open debate, and the right to question powerful institutions — including the ones that claim to speak in his name. The organization that now operates under his banner is doing the exact opposite: targeting one of the people who loved him and who refuses to stop asking what really happened to him. There are thousands of accounts across X that use Charlie’s image as their profile picture. Turning Point is not going after them. They are only going after the journalist who criticizes them. That tells you everything you need to know. If they get away with this against me, they will use the exact same playbook against anyone who says anything they don’t like. This is not about a photograph. This is about control and silencing dissent. Every single person who still cares about free speech needs to make it clear to Turning Point Action that this behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Tag them. Tag Elon Musk. Make sure he sees what is happening on his platform. We will not be silenced. $Two weeks into the McCairn-Edogawa Protocol and I want to give an honest, measured update for everyone following along. I deliberately waited until after my 2nd Plasma Adsorption (PA) session to speak about symptoms. I wanted to give my body a fair opportunity to respond before making any statements I could not stand behind. The cognitive fog that has been a constant presence for 5 years has lifted. The heavy poisoned feeling I've woken up with every day is gone. The daily headaches and constant head/eye pressure has significantly decreased. Absurd question (obviously), but the situation right now is so bad funding-wise, that I bet some of you actually considered it for a second… Well, don’t get desperate - we created a new tool that might help! (keep your teeth!) I’m excited to announce that as of today we are officially releasing “QED for Grants” for everyone. What started off as an extension of our existing paper review platform, grew in the last few months to an entirely new design. We’ve been working like crazy on this, and although we have more things we want to add in the (very near) future, we decided to release our AI for grants NOW, earlier than planned. It’s not perfect, no AI is, but for the first time, when I run my own grants through QED Science, I feel it gets the research, finds real problems, and gives me very useful feedback that I can implement before submission. It’s like sending it to 20 scientists from my domain, knowing they’ll agree to dedicate their entire week to carefully read and comment on every line. It’s very important to write your own grants yourself, it makes you think hard and you learn a lot from doing it, and q.e.d’s system is designed to preserve these positive aspects and augment them - you get feedback on your own writing, we don’t write for you!! But at the same time, a typical PI spends many months every year writing proposals and sadly only a tiny fraction gets funded, even if the ideas are good. When you are forced to submit an unreasonable amount of grants the quality of the writing drops, and rejection rates increase. Not because the essence is bad. It’s simply too competitive right now (the cuts made it so much worse) and if your proposal is not super clear and tight, and if it’s not a perfect fit for the grant you’re submitting, you’re doomed. Our grant solution is not an authoring, text-generating tool. It gives you constructive feedback on your writing (it comments on the deep things, not grammar and typos). It’s meant to help you with the questions that torment you late at night (“is this a good fit?”, “Is this novel enough?”, “Did I miss something?”). Tens of thousands of you already use q.e.d to improve your manuscripts and critically read papers, we built the grant tool by the same principles (you’ll identify many of the features that you told us you like). We’ve processed thousands of proposals, learned where things fail, where reviewers get stuck, why good ideas come out weak.
