The Mitrovdan Offensive, also known as the First Mitrovdan Offensive, was a significant battle that took place from November 8 to November 13, 1992, during the Bosnian War. In this offensive, combined forces of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH), and the Croatian Army (HV), supported by paramilitary formations and foreign fighters, attacked positions held by the Nevesinje and partially Bileća Brigades of the Herzegovina Corps of the Army of the Republic of Srpska (VRS). The attackers aimed to capture strategic heights and mountain ranges, such as Velež and Hrgud, from which the Serbian forces controlled the Neretva River valley. According to available data, the Croatian-Muslim forces had around 40,000 soldiers, while the Serbian side had approximately 5,000 fighters. Despite the numerical superiority of the attackers, the VRS managed to defend its positions, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. It is estimated that the attacking side had about 580 killed and over 1,300 wounded, while the Serbian side suffered 42 killed and over 300 wounded. This battle was one of the largest offensives against the Serbian-held areas of Herzegovina and one of the key battles for the survival of the Serbian people in that region. The victory in the Mitrovdan Offensive significantly contributed to stabilizing the front and boosting the morale of the Serbian forces in Herzegovina.
