I recently joined OhioDNR to plant an Ohio buckeye tree at the State Fairgrounds in honor of Ohio State Football winning the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff national championship. Ohio is so proud of these players and what they accomplished together. They did it with class and resilience. They did it as a team! This tree will be a permanent reminder of the wonderful memories they gave us along the way. I encourage Buckeye Nation to visit the tree at Natural Resources Park at this year’s Ohio State Fair. Journalist Raha Pourbakhsh of Iran International has reportedly been in contact with several of the athletes and helping track developments. It is a national symbol that existed long before the Islamic Republic and remains a source of pride for Iranians around the world. If FIFA wishes to take a position on politics, then it should also speak out about the persecution of Iranian athletes and footballers. By 2011, they were ranked [207] by FIFA, practically the poorest football country in the world. Then in 2011, their Federation voted Ahmed Yahya as FA President. He restructured the league. Set up youth teams. Got the country’s biggest Telcom to sponsor the league. Player salaries fixed. By 2014, they won their first away game in history, beating Liberia. They used €10m FIFA Goal Project funds and renovated their national stadium. Build an ultra modern Headquarters. Built a Training Complex with hotel rooms and TV/Radio studio. Camped U-15 team in the complex and started a youth development program. On his tour of Africa, FIFA Prez Infantino praised Mauritania as one of the few African countries with proper accountability of the FIFA funds. By 2019, they qualified for their first AFCON. 2021, qualified for the second AFCON the squad including some of the Youth players they developed from 2015. In 2023, qualified for third AFCON. Former pupil at Harrow School. He remembered something from his schooldays. A knockout competition between houses. Every team plays. The losers go home. One winner. He thought: what if we did that. But for the whole country. So he wrote fifteen letters. The clubs that wrote back: Barnes. Civil Service. Clapham Rovers. Crystal Palace. Donington School. Hampstead Heathens. Harrow Chequers. Hitchin. Maidenhead. Marlow. Queen's Park of Glasgow. Royal Engineers. Upton Park. Wanderers. Fifteen clubs. Out of fifty who were eligible. Most of them thought it was a nice idea. Some of them didn't bother replying at all. Three withdrew before they even played a match. Twelve clubs actually competed. Thirteen games in total. The whole thing played out across a few months in the winter and spring of 1871 to 1872. The final was held on 16 March 1872 at the Kennington Oval. A cricket ground. There were no stands. Two thousand people stood around a rope in the cold March afternoon light to watch. The Royal Engineers were overwhelming favourites. Physically imposing. Tactically advanced. 7-4 on to win. Ten minutes in... One of their players broke his collarbone. No substitutes existed. They played on with ten men. Wanderers scored. One nil. Final score. The man who invented the competition played in it. He captained the winning team. He lifted the cup he had created. Charles Alcock. Former pupil at Harrow School. He remembered something from his schooldays. A knockout competition between houses. Every team plays. The losers go home. One winner. He thought: what if we did that. But for the whole country. So he wrote fifteen letters. The clubs that wrote back: Barnes. Civil Service. Clapham Rovers. Crystal Palace. Donington School. Hampstead Heathens. Harrow Chequers. 🚨Many seem shocked at the seeming pro-Ghana FA views that former Black Stars defender John Painstil (JP) espoused last night on UTV Ghana. • Some context for non-Akan speakers and non-Ghanaian followers: in the attached clip, JP downplays the importance of a demonstration against the Ghana FA held on Valentine's Day. The #SaveGhanaFootballDemo was to protest the worsening state of our football, and to proffer solutions to Parliament that, if implemented, could help make Ghana football attractive and beneficial to all again. JP also says in the video that allegations of nepotism in national team callups (especially at U17 and U20) are baseless and just hearsay. Why are we shocked at JP? Don't be; he has held this view for a long time. • Myself, John, Saddick Adams and a few other colleagues have been board members of the annual Ghana Football Awards (The Ghana Football Awards) since 2018. We've had tens of brainstorming sessions about the state of Ghana's youth football, the broken football conveyor belt and how to make it better, as we debated each year's best players and admins deserving of the awards. • One thing has been consistent about John: he has been always held the view that 'things are not as bad as we make it seem'. Each one of us has views shaped by personal experiences, and I do not know why JP doesn't think Ghana deserves better football administration than what we've had. But there's one thing I know. • Exactly a year ago this week (10 Feb, 2023), former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo – who previously never saw the need to publicly speak up on the worsening state of the economy – shocked most of us when she joined demonstrators to protest the government's plans to include pensioner bondholders in the debt restructuring program. Aunt Sophia, in a later interview with Bola Ray, explained that she joined the movement 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 by that government policy. 🦘🇦🇺My take on Ange Postecoglou. If you disagree, that's fine. Freedom of speech, your opinion might be listened to or not. Mine is, I know by who. That's what I care about. 🌏Postecoglou has coached every age group at national / international level on 3 continents. That's inspirational and commands respect, if he was to be found out, as he said, he'd have been a long time ago like these former pros who cry because they get a U19 team relegated (ask me the names). 🤓From a footballing standpoint, he's not making up theoretical shit like all these nerds jumping up on the Pro License barely coaching a team; and scrambling to figure out the reality of the sport/people in Phase 2, 3 doing the polar opposite to what they told everyone they'd do. 🧠The football Postecoglou sets up has room for decision making within a structure which is an extraordinary achievement from a coaching standpoint, and what every coach in the world should aspire to do. Ajax or Netherlands 1974, Nantes 1995, Rijkaard's Barcelona, Wenger's Arsenal. If you like "good football" , this is good football. If you want to win, pay more and get the best players. The correlation is right there. 🔁There's rotations everywhere (think triangles who tilt, carrier and two options short/long), and players have 2-3 options everytime. The right balance between combinations into feet and third man runs (third man runs are vital - and often forgotten when nerds coach teams and have a control kink) 🫡For that, you need a club culture of empowered players caring about the common good ; and also good enough to act selflessly to what the game demands (and actually execute it). ⚖️The challenge is that bang average off the mill pros do what they're told, can't do most things. And ones who can't do play the solo card - football is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport. 👀I can confidently second guess that the hesitation in collective movement suggest they're thinking in real time and not going "by the book" (which is microwave coaching). 👥How often Postecoglou talks about culture, turning up together for a meal before games. Old school, but actually grounded. This isn't a startup or UberEats. 🧘‍♂️There's a handful of adults coaching Premier League teams. Slot maybe, Howe, Emery, Frank, Glasner, Moyes, McKenna who value the holistic composition of performance: squad chemistry, work ethic, managing people and treating them as adults. Coincidence or not, I rate all of them. Coincidence, they all overperfom with the resources they have. 🚩Defensively, the idea to hold a high line can make sense on the occasion. Most of you don't work in football. People who do know the biggest paradox in the modern age is that lot of players are outstanding to think smart and execute fast in high pressure situations; yet are out of their depth when they have time and space to think. 🫣Chelsea 11v9 took half an hour to break down 9 fuckers on halfway line, and people know how badly it reflected on one of the worst assemblage of players ever seen pound for pound. And that's not Postecoglou's team. Then again, listen to who you want. I've done it too. 9v11 winning 5-2 from 2-1 down at National level whilst the other team was spamming diagonals out of play. 🚑The injury crisis is worrying, but it's also a vicious circle. Majority of clubs nowadays sign players to replace injured players. If you get one or two key players injured by the extreme random demands of the game (facing a Haaland, Jackson etc... stretches your CBs to the limit - Van de Ven got muscular in game injury like Rodri got injured like Fofana got injured). 🚁💰I don't think the training methods are in question; not should they be questioned more than Pep or Maresca's who can actually afford to get replacement brought in (and still get injuries) - and never get questioned. Spurs play Gray at CB. Chelsea can afford to call Chaloback, or City sign another 40 million a piece CB. 🕳️Spurs lost Kane and finished 5th, like nothing happened. That's outstanding. 📼⛳️Training clip: possession box to create the moment to change gear and find a striker dropping off the front. What happens then is a "wave" 3v2, with decision making. Drive diagonally, straight pass for diagonal runs. Affordances (what players perceive they can play) and match realism. See the cut off corners to guarantee runs going towards goal. Can't be more modern, evidence based, empowering, enjoyable and football realistic. 🏟️🎞️Game footage: look how they're using each pass as a timeline to allow a third man popping up in space. Good reaction on turnover. See another triangle being created, with players selflessly filling in the tips of the triangle even rotating. Matar Sarr gets sucked into the space, puts an outstanding goalmouth delivery with presence and bodies in the box - especially at the far post. Brennan who everyone called a flop. Tremendous, organic (= player led) output. What you can do = the team's outlook. ⚽️I'm talking football there, not theory, not pattern playbook, not fiscal optimisation. 📊Spurs are working on relative budget. Don't budget CL football. Spend 40% turnover on wages, when Chelsea's etc... are 70% or Leicester 120%. 🏇💉It's like the only clean horse in a race when others are stuffed with red bull, cocaine and creatine. And some of you Peaky Blinders are looking everywhere - even if you saw the episode where they stuff the horse to make it win.

In the latest case, a female player reportedly received a 10-match ban for shouting ‘go on big man’ at the male footballer Blair Hamilton. Hamilton is the 6-foot tall male who has played on the England women’s university team, Hastings United, and Saltdean Women, and was also picked as substitute goalie for Sutton United Women’s team by their male manager Lucy Clark. This third case of the FA punishing a female player for stating the truth has emerged in an interview with Hamilton on the 'Football versus Homophobia' podcast, which was broadcast in March 2024. Hamilton describes a ‘red mist’ descending when he was called a man, which led to him making a formal complaint to the FA. The FA duly obliged by hauling the unknown female player through its disciplinary process and banning her from her sport, says Hamilton. This is the same punishment meted out to former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for biting an opponent in 2013. The latest case of female players being punished for stating the obvious follows the cases of two teenage girls, who were brought before the FA’s National Serious Case Panels and handed out match bans for saying what they were seeing – men on the pitch. Despite FA charges, outcomes, and fines being published on a monthly basis, these cases don’t appear on the FA website. Why is that? How many other players, fans or clubs have been sanctioned for calling out men playing in the women’s game? What is being hidden from us? The FA is discriminating against women and girls by allowing males into the female game. Then further discriminating by handing out excessive punishments when this unfairness (and the truth) is called out. It's a means to silence women and prohibit any further challenge. We call on the FA and Lisa Nandy MP, the Secretary of State for Sport to make football fair for females. No males in the female game.

This third case of the FA punishing a female player for stating the truth has emerged in an interview with Hamilton on the 'Football versus Homophobia' podcast, which was broadcast in March 2024. Hamilton describes a ‘red mist’ descending when he was called a man, which led to him making a formal complaint to the FA. The FA duly obliged by hauling the unknown female player through its disciplinary process and banning her from her sport, says Hamilton. This is the same punishment meted out to former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for biting an opponent in 2013. The latest case of female players being punished for stating the obvious follows the cases of two teenage girls, who were brought before the FA’s National Serious Case Panels and handed out match bans for saying what they were seeing – men on the pitch. Despite FA charges, outcomes, and fines being published on a monthly basis, these cases don’t appear on the FA website. Why is that? How many other players, fans or clubs have been sanctioned for calling out men playing in the women’s game? What is being hidden from us? The FA is discriminating against women and girls by allowing males into the female game. Then further discriminating by handing out excessive punishments when this unfairness (and the truth) is called out. It's a means to silence women and prohibit any further challenge. We call on the FA and Lisa Nandy MP, the Secretary of State for Sport to make football fair for females. No males in the female game.
