When you have two adversaries fighting on your land, it brings to mind Ghassan Tueni’s book “The War of Others on Our Soil.” Today, we see ourselves at the center of a battle, with rockets and shells crossing over our heads between two sides that have nothing to do with Lebanon’s interests—both acting against them. The greatest blame lies within, with those who drag Lebanon into these conflicts to serve external agendas—particularly those implementing Iran’s policies—going as far as launching attacks on Israel from Lebanese territory and entangling the country in a war it did not need. Chapter two of my new book, Israel on Trial, discusses the legitimacy of the State of Israel. The first thing to understand is that Israel is actually an old country in the world—not ancient Israel, not the Kingdom of Judea—but the modern State of Israel, founded on May 14th, 1948. It was the 59th state accepted into the United Nations. There are now 193 countries, which makes Israel older than 67% of all the countries in the world. It really was created at this moment in time very much like, and not in an aberrational way, all the other countries that were being created in this period of decolonization in the Middle East, Africa, and in Asia when colonists were leaving their colonies behind and drawing lines on a map. And so, in that sense, Israel’s creation was not all that different from the creation of Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, or even Cameroon. But the point here is that the claim that Israel is illegitimate can be analyzed very simply because although our anthropologists and linguists have identified over 7,000 distinct ethnic groups, different peoples around the world, the reality is that over 98% of them don't have states of their own. What makes it possible for a group to gain independence, sovereignty, and have their own legitimate nation-state? There is a legal test for statehood, and it comes from the Montevideo Convention, signed in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1933. It's called the Montevideo Convention and it has four simple elements: 1. Do you have defined borders? 2. Do you have a defined population? 3. Do you have the capacity to engage in foreign relations? 4. Do you have a single effective government? Israel has had all of those things from the moment it was founded until today, and every second in between. By contrast, the supposed State of Palestine does not meet—and in fact fails—the four-factor Montevideo test. It lacks defined borders and is not governed by a single effective government, but rather by three separate authorities, none of which exercises legitimate governing authority over the whole population.

Today, Iran launched a swarm of 185 killer drones, 110 surface to surface missiles, and 36 cruise missiles at Israel, putting the whole country and entire region on lockdown. This was the first time Iran launches a direct attack against Israel from its own soil. But for decades, Iran has been building a ring of terror around Israel’s borders. This is called Iran’s terror proxy network, which includes Jihadi terrorist groups like Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and other armed militias in Syria and Iraq. Iran’s multi-front war against Israel has been going on for decades. And the October 7th massacre was just a part of this larger war. Yet brainwashed so called activists around the world are trying to defend this attack against Israel and say that it was justified. They claim that Israel deserved this attack for eliminating Iran’s most senior military figure in Syria, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who was involved in the planning of the October 7th massacre. However this attack was not an isolated event. It is a part of Iran’s on-going campaign to wipe Israel off the map and destabilize the Middle East in order to create a new power dynamic in the region. Thanks to Israel’s incredible air defense systems, and her American and EU allies, the vast majority of the projectiles were intercepted before reaching Israel, resulting in limited damage. Yet Iran’s endless support of terrorism not only threatens Israel, but also threatens global security. From Gaza to Lebanon, Yemen to Syria, Iran’s fingerprints are evident in countless conflicts. It’s time to dismantle Iran’s terror networks and hold the regime accountable for its relentless pursuit of violence. And only then can we hope to see a safer, more peaceful world for future generations.

To have a state, there's a simple test. It's called the Montevideo test. It comes from the Montevideo Convention in 1933, and it's a four-part, four-element test. The four elements are: 1. Do you have a defined population? 2. Do you have defined borders? 3. Do you have the capacity to conduct foreign relations? 4. Do you have a single effective government? There's a couple things to understand about this. The first thing is that Israel, despite being called an illegitimate state, is actually a very old country. I don't mean ancient Israel. I mean, the Israel that was founded in 1948 was founded at a time when there were only 58 countries in the world. It became the 59th state. So people always say, "Oh, this newfangled creation, Israel." No, no, no. Israel's older than roughly two-thirds of all the countries in the world. And in fact, it was created in precisely the same way and at about the same time as many of the decolonized states in the world that were just drawn as lines on the map by European colonialist powers. It's the same thing with many of the Arab countries. Iraq was drawn up that way. Lebanon was definitely drawn up that way. Syria was drawn up that way with no regard for their indigenous, in many cases, local minority populations. Lots of countries in Africa were created this way. Cameroon was created this way. Part of South Africa and Botswana were split off this way. We could talk forever about the dozens of countries that were created just the same way Israel was, and nobody ever protests them because there's no Jews there, right? So there's nothing to protest. The point here is that Israel met in 1948, and has met every second of every day since then until today, all four of the Montevideo Factors.

I often wonder if the people Mario chose to interview are drawn from a random sample of the unhinged Israel Derangement Syndrome list or that they are educated, think they know everything but are stupidly ignorant. Take this example (for a complete historical background see my tweet below. I have offered Mario to be in his show and correct facts to all the IDS half truth - but he does not want me to challenge them:-) any how this person knows the dates: 1948, 1967 - but has no clue to what it means. Even when Mario tried to tell her: "No , Hizbullha is bombing Israel proper" (not any imaginary "occupied land") she is off on her hyperbalomenia trying to justify Hizbullha firing rockets on civilians in their homes in Israel (on land that has always been Israel. Not 67, not 48 - but long long ago. Look up the history of Metula in google) - and she does not know the map , she does not know history, all she has are unhinged allegations about Israel not performing its duties - to justify the clear Hezbollah war crimes of firing anti tank and ballistics missiles at school bus, private residence and explosive drones on school yards. What a total shameless ignorance in the name of "morality". I am sure about one thing: She has no idea what is going on. Yet .Mario Nawfal interviewed her as an "X-perrt" as part of the echochamber of IDS.

I want to share this video from my trip to Syria two weeks ago to give you an idea of what half of the country looks like and more of an understanding of how beyond absurd it is for President Trump to say that Syria should take on Hezbollah. Aside from Syria being utterly physically and economically shattered, there is also the fact that it too is currently being occupied by Israel, who started bombing and grabbing more land the minute the regime of Bashar al-Assad fell. Worth remembering that the former Syrian regime, despite being part of the “axis” kept its border with Israel pretty quiet. Odd dynamic I know, but yes the old Syria facilitated the movement of weapons to Hezbollah while at the same time had a quiet deal with Israel and the US. As a senior official said to me back in those years, its better the devil we know who will stick to the status quo with Israel. Since al-Sharaa toppled the Assad regime, Israel has been regularly bombing and grabbing more Syrian land under that good old “national security” argument, even though al-Sharaa has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of attacking Israel and has in fact been rather passive on Israel’s actions. And yes he, the current government, many Syrians might hate Hezbollah for the role they played in propping up Bashar al-Assad and fighting with the former regime, but the sheer ludicrousness of suggesting they trot over to Lebanon and get rid of Hezbollah to help Israel is mindblowing, and not just from the Syria side but also can you imagine what Israel would do if the people whose military capabilities its bombing and “weakening” in Syria just showed up on its border with Lebanon?

The question we need to ask ourselves isn’t whether the war continues or whether there’s an agreement. In my opinion, if we look a little further ahead than, say, a day or two, the question is: Will this war end with an agreement or a unilateral ceasefire? It must be said that there is a very interesting development behind the scenes, which is that Hezbollah is pleading with the Iranians that any agreement or ceasefire—even a unilateral one, which is, of course, just a phrase, as there is always some sort of coordination behind the scenes—will also include an end to Israeli fire on Hezbollah. That is what Hezbollah is telling Iran. Israel, on the other hand, is telling the United States that there is no chance of that happening—it will not happen—because Israel’s strategic goal in 2024 was to sever the links between the Gaza and Lebanon fronts, and it succeeded in doing so, and its strategic goal in the Lebanon sector in 2026 is to sever the Tehran and Beirut sectors. To the extent that Israel does this—separating the octopus from its tentacles, or the lizard from its tail, whichever animal metaphor one prefers—it is a significant success on the path to the goal of simply strangling Hezbollah, and therefore this is a very significant point of contention.

🇵🇸🇮🇱 Al-Aqsa mosque is a holy place to Muslims, not Jews, yet the Israelis constantly prevent Palestinian worshippers from entering it. For those who have kept up with Palestine - Israel for a while, you'd know what Israel does to Palestinian worshippers every Ramadan. Ramadan is next month and whenever this time of the year rolls around, Israel: - Prevents worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa. - Attacks worshippers inside or outside the mosque. - Sends Israeli forces to prevent Palestinians from entering the mosque. This usually happens during the night as Muslims perform an extra nightly prayer during Ramadan. They have done this year after year, and it always results in many people being injured, and in some cases, dying. Now, just before Ramadan, Israel wants to ban worshippers from Al-Aqsa mosque. This is no coincidence as it happens every year, but given the extent of Israeli aggression in Gaza (which is starting to extend a lot towards Lebanon), I would not be surprized if the violence Israel inflicts upon Palestinian worshippers increases severely this Ramadan. Also, when people like Javier Milei get the Israelis riled up about a 'Third Temple', it's not exactly helpful to the situation. It's important that people keep an eye on Israel's actions during Ramadan this year, and more precisely there decisions in regards to Al-Aqsa. If Israel oversteps their boundaries more than they already do, Al-Aqsa could be the trigger that causes a severe escalation in tensions in the Middle East.

The government has taken historical decisions, however, the implementation does not meet our expectations. It has been slow. What we are suggesting is to start now from inside Dahiyeh, from the southern district of Beirut outward.
