Their only "guilt" was their identity and belonging to the honorable Alawite community, making them targets for the treachery of mercenaries and barbaric mobs affiliated with the de facto authority. These unarmed civilians paid with their lives for a blind terrorism that targeted existence and coexistence, leaving their memory as an eternal stain of shame haunting the killers and those who incited them.

Another Jolani government charadeโ€ฆ a victim turned into propaganda! In a scene that epitomizes moral decay, Jolaniโ€™s minister Hind Qobwat staged a phone call with the family of Rawan Asaad, a young woman raped by members of Jolaniโ€™s Ministry of Defense or Interior. The honorable Alawite victim was labeled a โ€œslaveโ€ in the eyes of this ruling gang and its mercenaries, her tragedy exploited for a hollow media performance while the reality remains that she is a victim of a heinous crime. Analyzing Episode 60. Season 2 aka Motherhood Deconstructed I want to start this analysis with a disclaimer that I'll be writing about that kiss separately, because really, it deserves a post of its own. I'll talk about it here briefly, but this analysis will stick to the overall events of ep 60. To me, the main theme of this episode was motherhood. Be it Alya, Nare, Zerrin, Sadakat, and yes, even the dishrag. We see how these different women strive, suffer, and never stop trying to keep their children with them, all except one. So, let's begin. We start episode 60 with Alya and Cihan awaiting to conduct a DNA test on baby Simal, whom Kaya insists is his child. Long story short, Kaya is feeling a little pissed about Zerrin keeping the truth of Simal from him, and he has a point. But then, it's not like Zerrin has had a jolly good time pretending to play house with a creep like Demir. The only reason she relents is to keep her baby safe. So, it's a catch-22 situation, where both sides are right and wrong. But, it's not like we don't know these two will make up soon. What stood out to me in that sequence was Alya taking charge of ensuring Zerrin has access to her baby. She knows exactly what it is to be separated from one's child, and she's kind and brave enough to refuse to let anyone suffer through the same. So, in a way, Alya's motherhood doesn't just extend to Deniz. It encompasses her to the point where she shields all those she feels need protection. I also like the fact that she's taken Zerrin under her wing, because when the latter moves into the konak with Sadakat, she'll need all the help she can get. The next sequence begins at the hospital, where Nare is still hell-bent on continuing with the pregnancy, though at great risk to her life. This is another glimpse of motherhood the show gives us - in the shape of a woman who is so in love with her unborn child already, she's willing to risk death to bring it into the world. Contrasted to that is Sadakat, who's willing to lie or cheat to keep her daughter alive. Here is a ruthless kind of motherhood. Sadakat's love (if you can call it that) has always been wrapped in control, manipulation, and fear. But, still at the center of all her ugliness is a woman who doesn't want to lose her children. Nare is willing to die for her child, Sadakat is willing to kill Nare's child to ensure she lives - quite the compelling contrast. Different forms of motherhood, but both rooted in desperation. In the middle of all that, Meryem pops up like a bad penny. But even as she arrives in that room and Sadakat wants to keep her there, the awkward silence that envelops the space as she lingers is telling. She doesn't belong, it seems to say. But, there's another person who's starting to question their 'belonging' in this new version of the past that's come back - and of course, that's Alya. The more she sees Meryem infiltrate parts of her life beyond the konak, the more her exposed nerves are rubbed raw. This woman is so close to complete and utter exhaustion, it's heartbreaking. What's even more heartbreaking is that while she tries to be there for everyone, she herself cuts everyone off when she feels troubled. And that, to me, is where the episode quietly portrays the emotional labor aspect of being a mom. Alya mothers everyone around her. Nare, Zerrin, Kaya, and Deniz. Even Cihan at times. She absorbs pain, tries to stem chaos, protects others from falling apart, yet when it comes to her own fears and insecurities, she retreats inward completely. It's almost as if she believes she only deserves to be the shelter, never the one allowed to seek sanctuary. Because children who grow up thinking they've been abandoned grow up thinking love is a thing to be earned through caring or usefulness. So, instead of asking for comfort, they always end up providing it. But humans, even the strongest of the strong, have their limits. And, it's so clear that Alya is close to reaching hers. So, when Cihan is forced to relent and allow Mujgan and her son to the konak because Deniz wants it, Alya does what she does best - she withdraws and leaves the source of discomfort. That's why she tells Cihan she hates going to the konak now because every time she goes there, the spectre of Meryem and what she can snatch away becomes unavoidable. And, as blind as Cihan can be at times, he picks up on that. He knows exactly what she's trying to do, which is why he tries to redirect her attention to the fact that he hates going to the konak without Alya around, too. He wants to be wherever Alya is. In his own way, he's trying to tell her it doesn't matter who stays at that house; it's only home to Cihan when Alya is around. His words reach Alya, which is why she relents and visits the konak for a few hours, but then shit hits the fan again. We'll get to that, but first, let's talk about Meryem. Meryem's scene in the hospital with Mujgan reveals Meryem saying she can't tell Cihan about Serhat because she's not sure who the father is, and that she'd rather live in the hope that Serhat is the son of the man she loves, bla blah. Now, go back and think of all the versions of motherhood we've seen in this series, and indeed this episode. They all have one thing in common - that all the mothers did whatever they had to, and bore whatever came their way to ensure their babies stayed with them. No matter how much Alya, Zerrin, or Nare love their better halves, when push came to shove, they put their children first. Even Sadakat married Azem for Boran. All except one. Meryem. Meryem sent her son away and made it look like he was Mujgan's child, thereby erasing all his links to her. One could argue it was because she feared Feyyaz. But what's stopping her now? Let's assume what Meryem says is right and there's a 50 percent chance Serhat is Cihan's son. For a mother desperate to save her child from danger, those are pretty good odds, so why avoid the DNA test? Suppose Serhat turns out to be Feyyaz's son; even so, if she comes clean with Cihan, she knows he's the kind to help her, even if just to keep an innocent child safe. So, her version of motherhood sticks out like a sore thumb in the episode. In contrast, I found Alya's line, 'When it comes to my son, I put him before everything and everyone else,' much more fitting with the theme. Mothers on the defensive, who feel there's a threat to their child's wellbeing, will relent to even the most extreme measure - even if it tears their own being apart. Alya hates being away from Cihan. She hates that distance she imposes between them as much as Cihan, but she can't help it. Because the mother in her won't let her choose anything else. Which is why I say Serhat is almost like an afterthought to Meryem because his needs are never the focus. And I get the feeling that whatever Meryem is trying to hide threatens not her son, but likely the version of herself she's presented to the world. Even when I rewatched the kite flying scene, the way the camera pans into Serhat only once, but mostly focuses on Cihan and Alya after showing us Meryem is telling. Like this is a woman not going through hell because of her child, but because she's looking at a structure of acceptance she's no longer able to enter. Life at the konak, Cihan's family unit, his love for Alya and Deniz - it's everything that could have been hers once, but no longer. No matter how she tries, she no longer fits. And honestly, thatโ€™s why that sense of not belonging is even more overt in an episode about motherhood. Every other mother in this episode becomes messy because of love for their child. Nare breaks down. Zerrin panics. Sadakat manipulates openly. Alya practically emotionally disintegrates trying to hold everything together. Their feelings spill all over the place because motherhood, especially threatened motherhood, breaks people down. But Meryem remains oddly stoic throughout it all, except for a few tears. She's mostly careful and controlled, and always aware of who's watching her. Going back to the point of shit hitting the fan, when Alya discovers Meryem and Mujgan in Cihan's room, she doesn't buy Meryem's story for a bit. When Cihan tries to calm the situation, she dismantles the sorry excuse Meryem gives with two questions. In other words, her spidey senses pick up trouble, but she keeps it locked in because she doesn't want to appear as the jealous, unreasonable wife. But things come to a head anyway when Feyyaz cuts Cihan and Alya off on the road. Cihan seems to finally realize exactly the kind of trouble Meryem has unleashed in their lives when Feyyaz keeps eyeing Alya. Because to Feyyaz's psychotic mind, Cihan is keeping Meryem away from him, which makes Alya fair game. But when Cihan insists Alya return to the konak, Alya flat out refuses, and all the pressure that's been building inside her gets directed at Cihan. She knows deep down he's not at fault, but the fact that he's jumped into another situation without thinking of the danger, grates on her nerves. Which is why her default setting kicks in; she demands that Cihan bring Deniz to her and leave the apartment. Cihan, who is already reeling from Alya pulling back from him and the reality of Feyyaz targeting the only thing he truly holds dear, is desperate to stop Alya's isolation before she decides he's not worth all the misery she's suffering, and does what's worked for him once before in a desperate situation (the airport, anyone?). He forgets everything, pulls Alya in, and kisses the breath out of her. And, it works too, because for that moment, Alya stops spiraling long enough to simply feel. To stop calculating danger or bracing for abandonment. She feels loved and safe in Cihan's arms again. That's what makes that kiss so powerful. It isn't just the passion. It's the desperation behind it, on both sides. Cihan isn't kissing Alya because he wants to win an argument. He's kissing her because he's terrified, and he misses her. He's worried that if she keeps retreating inward, one day she'll retreat so far he won't be able to reach her anymore. Worried that all the fear, exhaustion, and pressure she's carrying will eventually make her decide loving him isn't worth the cost. And Alya responds because beneath all her anger, fear, and exhaustion, she loves him just as desperately. That's the irony of CihAl this season. They're not going to pieces because the love is weakening. They're going to pieces because the love has become so enormous that losing it feels catastrophic to both of them. To conclude, everything within ep 60, including the kiss, works so beautifully because technically everyone is unraveling. Every woman in this episode is fighting to protect something she loves, but the ways they do so reveal who they are at their core. Alya protects by sacrificing parts of herself. Nare protects by risking herself. Sadakat protects by controlling others. Zerrin protects by enduring humiliation. And Meryem... Meryem protects the narratives she builds. Her emotions, while visible, don't land with impact, almost as if they're missing a core ingredient. On the opposite end of the spectrum lie CihAl, whose love strips them bare, only for them to realize that retreat is no option. The only way forward for them is through - through fear, through exhaustion, through jealousy, through danger, and through every ugly and painful thing that loving someone this deeply awakens inside them. Because CihAl are incapable of loving each other halfway. Their love keeps dragging every hidden wound, every insecurity, every instinct to the surface until there is nowhere left to hide. And maybe thatโ€™s the real contrast episode 60 quietly builds toward: one side clinging to carefully maintained facades, the other being emotionally dismantled by a love too raw and overwhelming to remain controlled. Till later, happy reading, y'all. #CihAl #Uzakลžehir

Agamemnon had provoked the wrath of the goddess Artemis by killing her sacred deer, resulting in the goddess causing a calm sea so that the fleet of the Achaeans could not sail from Aulis to Troy. They asked the seer Calchas what they should do, and he replied that the goddess's wrath would only subside if Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia. Initially, Agamemnon refused to do it, but he was pressured by Menelaus and Odysseus, and as the months passed, he summoned his daughter from Mycenae under the pretext that he would arrange her marriage to Achilles. Iphigenia arrived at Aulis, and then Agamemnon handed her over to Calchas to sacrifice her to Artemis. The scene in the video is from the Greek film "Iphigenia" of 1977 by Michael Cacoyannis. The entire film and its dialogues were exclusively based on the work of Euripides without any additional exaggerations or nonsense. The ancient text writes: IPHIGENIA: "Look, mother, how rightly I speak; upon me great Greece casts its eyes; from me depend the sailing of the ships and the destruction of the Phrygians; from me, the prevention of future barbarian attempts to abduct women from wealthy Greece henceforth, the payment for the abduction of Helen, whom Paris has stolen. Such is the salvation my death brings, and immortal fame I shall have; they will say I liberated Greece. And it does not befit me to be so fond of life; you bore me for the good of all Greeks and not for yourself alone. Thousands of shield-bearers, thousands of oarsmen, seeing their homeland wronged, will strike boldly at the enemies, and will die for Greeceโ€™s honor, and shall all this be hindered by one life, mine? Where is the justice in that? How could I oppose them? And another thing: for a stranger to enter war with all the Argives and die for one woman is unjust. The life of one man is more valuable than that of ten thousand women. And if Artemis wishes to take my body, shall I, a mortal, become an obstacle to the goddess? How could that be? I give my body to Greece; come, sacrifice me, take Ilion. These things will be my memorials for years to come: my marriage, my children, and my glory. It is right for Greeks to rule over barbarians, and not barbarians over Greeks; because barbarians are slaves, and Greeks are free." ACHILLES: "Some god would have made me blessed, if I were to take you, daughter of Agamemnon. Fortunate is Greece, which has you, fortunate are you, being Greek. You spoke well and in a manner worthy of your homeland; you do not wage war against the goddess who rules you; your mind turned both to reason and to fate. I saw your character, and thus my desire to unite with you is even greater; for you are a noble soul. And consider this: I want to help you and make you my wife; it will be a great burden for me, I swear by Thetis, if I do not fight the Argives to save you. A terrible evil is death, know that." IPHIGENIA: "I speak clearly before everyone. Helen ignites battles, and blood flows for her body; let her suffice; you, stranger, do not get killed for me and do not kill; and let me, if I can, save Greece." Source: แผธฯ†ฮนฮณฮญฮฝฮตฮนฮฑ แผก แผฮฝ ฮ‘แฝฮปฮฏฮดฮน (1402-1432) "Iphigenia at Aulis" was written by Euripides, which was performed in the year 405 BC, one year after the death of Euripides in 406 BC, by his son. It was written in the year 407 BC during the poetโ€™s stay at the court of King Archelaus in Macedonia. It formed one part of a trilogy, along with the works "The Bacchae" and "Alcmaeon in Corinth", which won first prize. Amid all this, this text is yet another proof that the Greeks always knew where the limits (borders) of Greece reached and who belongs within them as well as who is Greek. Films based on the works of the Greeks promote patriotism, heroism, glory, and emphasize that everything revolves around the nation (ฮญฮธฮฝฮฟฯ‚) and religion (ฮธฯฮทฯƒฮบฮตฮฏฮฑ), around values and sacrifices for your country and your people. Modern society is afraid of these films. Those who control the "arts" hate them. Do you know why?

โ€œThey Put a Gun to My Head and Raped Meโ€: Al Jazeera Mubasher Airs the Testimony of a 17-Year-Old Sudanese Girl About a Rape Committed by the UAE-Backed Rapid Support Militia In a painful report broadcast by Al Jazeera Mubasher and presented by journalist Hayat Al Yamani, a 17-year-old Sudanese girl recounted in detail how she was raped by members of the UAE-backed Rapid Support Militia. Her testimony begins with a sentence that conveys the full weight of the crime: โ€œThey put a gun to my head and raped me.โ€ According to her account, three armed men stormed the place where she was sitting with two other girls. They were dressed in khaki and carrying weapons. She says they openly identified themselves as members of the Rapid Support. They told the girls: โ€œWe are the Rapid Support. We came looking for the army, and you are all the armyโ€™s women.โ€ They threatened to kill any boy they found and warned that none of the girls would be spared. A gun was placed against her head. She and the other two girls were forced to choose between being shot or removing their clothes. All three were then raped. After the assault, the girls were returned to their families. That night, they fled the area. They eventually reached El Fasher, where she was taken to a hospital. Medical tests revealed that she was two months pregnant. In one of the most emotionally powerful moments of the report, the girl says she loves the child she conceived as a result of the rape. She describes what happened to her as a trial from God, speaking through tears. This testimony is not presented as an isolated incident. National, regional, and international organizations have documented widespread patterns of sexual violence since the outbreak of war in Sudan, confirming that such crimes are not random acts but part of a recurring pattern in areas under militia control. Sudanese civil initiatives have gathered testimonies and supported survivors. Regionally, SAHA, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, has documented thousands of cases and highlighted repeated patterns of abuse. Internationally, Human Rights Watch has documented cases of mass rape and systematic targeting of women in militia-controlled areas. United Nations bodies, including fact-finding missions and independent experts, have also expressed grave concern over conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan and have called for accountability and protection of civilians. For many Sudanese, the growing body of documentation raises a question that goes beyond individual criminal responsibility. When Western officials repeat calls that echo the UAEโ€™s language about a โ€œtruceโ€ and a โ€œpolitical agreement,โ€ what exactly is being proposed? Does it mean preserving a role for the UAE-backed Rapid Support Militia in Sudanโ€™s political future? Does it mean legitimizing a force accused by survivors and rights groups of turning womenโ€™s bodies into battlefields? For a wide segment of Sudanese society, this is not a technical detail to be folded into the fine print of a political deal. It is a question that cuts to the heart of justice, dignity, and the moral foundation of the state. It is a red line. Many Sudanese argue that the future of their country cannot be constructed on a settlement that incorporates into its political architecture a force accused of mass rape, summary executions, and systematic terror against civilians. A political process that leaves such a militia embedded within state structures is not perceived as a pathway to peace. It is seen as the formalization of violence, repackaged within official institutions. The testimony of the 17-year-old girl aired by Al Jazeera Mubasher is not an isolated account. It is one among thousands documented by Sudanese, regional, and international organizations. It stands as a stark reminder that behind every diplomatic phrase, every call for a ceasefire, and every proposal for a political settlement are real people whose lives have been irreversibly changed. For the survivors, justice is not a secondary issue to be deferred in the name of pragmatism. For many Sudanese, ensuring that those accused of these crimes are excluded from any role in the countryโ€™s future is not a bargaining chip. It is a foundational condition for any credible and lasting peace. This reality poses an unavoidable question: how can individuals accused of such grave violations be transformed into partners in governance or architects of the stateโ€™s future? And how can victims be expected to accept a political order in which those accused of tearing apart the social fabric are woven back into its ruling structure? #Sudan #RSFisTerroristOrganization #UAEKillsSudanesePeople #UAESponsorsTerrorism

Analyzing Episode 33. Season 3 aka Of Breaking Out, Waking Up and Fighting Together Evvvveeeettttt. Feels good to be back at analyzing Far City. And, it feels especially good to analyze ep 33 because it was a whopper of an episode. The flow of events, the dialogues, and the acting were all top-notch. Brilliant work. Now, let's get down to business. The episode kicks off with Sadotor (an amalgamation of Sadakat and dementor because fcuk if this woman doesn't suck all the happiness from any room she's in) kicking up a fuss and demanding Ciho and Alya get divorced. Now, I don't know if you've read my analysis of the Far City title song, but in it, I said from the lyrics and picturization of 'de mardin', it seems like Uzak Sehir is a tale of a land lost within its own oppressive history, crying out for a change. And the catalyst for that change is none other than Alya Albora. In the opening scene of ep 33, I was reminded yet again of why Alya is such an important character for this story - not just for Cihan, but also for Albora. Because Alya doesn't stand silent in the face of injustice or wrongdoing. She speaks out. Fearlessly. And each of her words helps lighten some of the burden of systematic abuse, both in the Albora family and the land. Some folks were calling out Alya for not loving Cihan enough or feeling something for Boran in ep32. I hope y'all have been satisfied. Because the only thing Alya feels for Frankenboran is disdain and anger. Rightly so. When Sadakat tries to pin the blame of 'shameless' on Alya and Cihan, Alya reads her the riot act and reminds her exactly of all the things Sadator has done that she should be ashamed of. She reminds her of the will imposed on her and Cihan. Something that Boran should be ashamed of. And then she points out that the only victims in this sorry tale are her, Cihan, and Deniz, because it's their lives that Boran and Sadator almost destroy. Lives that Sadotor is still trying to destroy. And let me tell you - THANK GOD. Because it was about time someone started speaking the truth in that household. That what Boran did wasn't some kind of supreme sacrifice - it was extreme selfishness. Like Alya says, when Boran sends her to Albora, to Sadotor, he knows exactly the kind of hell his mother is capable of unleashing. But instead of being truthful to his wife, Frankenboran gives Cihan one set of instructions, Vurgun another set of instructions, and tells Alya nothing at all. A more assholish move I've yet to see from a husband. Suffice it to say, Alya Albora wipes the floor with Sadotor with the truth. Because the truth can be a weapon in the hands of the oppressed, as long as they have the courage to speak. Something that's highly necessary for the Albora clan. My queen, that's all I can say for Alya. Now, let's switch to Ciho. Just like people were calling Alya ungrateful last week, folks are lynching Ciho for being a 'coward.' Le sigh. I mean, if that's the way you wanna go, no one's gonna stop you. But Cihan Albora is no coward. He's just a man, catching up to his learning curve. When Cihan tells Sadotor 'I wish you weren't my mom' I felt heartbroken for him. I was also incredibly, incredibly proud. Because just like Alya is breaking out of the circle of abuse, Cihan is waking up to his mother's constant, vile manipulation. The next scene that most stood out was Alya and Cihan's heart-to-heart along the banks of the Tigris. And, once again, let me say, I LOVE Alya Albora. She does love fearlessly, this woman. Which is why she tells Cihan outright that when Boran wakes up, she will divorce his ass. So, why does Cihan not come up with an equally kick-ass declaration? Because he's like the Eupharates, remember? Silent waters run deep, and Cihan's character isn't one to rush. Does that mean he's having second thoughts about Alya? HELL NO. The reason he's hesitant is because 1. he's not sure about Alya's feelings (until she tells him in that moment), and 2. he's the one who'll be burning bridges when this showdown happens. He doesn't regret falling in love with Alya, but when you're standing at the edge of a precipice, about to take a leap of faith, you can't help but think about what you're about to do. I know a lot of you had problems with him calling Alya Boran's wife legally, but he's trying to give her room and gauge her reaction. Remember, this is the guy who forces Alya to marry him in the beginning, and he still regrets that. He doesn't want a repeat. Then there's the fact that whether Alya wants to stay with him or go back to Boran is her decision. He knows that. He's shit scared of it, but he knows, if either Deniz or Alya wants to 'go back' to the status quo, they'd be well within their rights. He even says as much. So he keeps asking what if Boran wants you, because saying what if you want Boran is beyond horror. It's a death sentence for Cihan, and he knows it. His efforts finally bear fruit when Alya tells him straight up, she doesn't want Boran and that she wants to stay with the man she loves. The relief on Cihan's face is palpable then. Cihan once tells Sahin that when making a decision, it's best to focus on what you'll be giving up to help make up your mind. Alya is his very life; he makes that clear when he says, 'Sen bana nefes oldu.' So, giving her up is not an option. What that also means is that the brotherhood he's prized all his life (whether rightly or wrongly) will fall under fire, and he won't be able to stop it. And, how that will affect other parts of their lives is up in the air, so you can't blame the man for taking a moment to process. Neither he nor Alya have it easy, but in this case, Alya feels easier to break away. Cihan needs to shed a lifetime of memories he's burdened with. But, despite all that, I'm glad Alya tells him that if he doesn't have the courage to stand with her, she won't go back to Boran. As jarring as her words are, they act as a sort of wake-up call. Reminding Cihan what's at stake. That's needed, and you can see the effect they have almost a few scenes later. When Cihan is talking to Sadotor to ask her to leave Deniz alone, he finally drops his nice-guy act and threatens her exactly the way she operates. Tit for tat. And that made me really happy, because both he and Alya will need to be unrepentant and perhaps even ruthless to save their relationship from what's coming. What sets CihAl apart is their ability to read each other and to communicate. That comes through very clearly in this episode. Another thing that's made obvious is that these two not only belong together (Dicla and Firat) but also that they're never going to give up on each other. To wrap things up, ep 33 marks another turning point in CihAl's lives. This episode seemed to give me 'emancipation' vibes. Alya tears down the walls of guilt and silence that surround Albora ailesi. Meanwhile, Cihan starts taking apart the shackles his past and Sadotor's manipulation have forged around him since childhood. Both Cihan and Alya stop being just survivors and start becoming active fighters in their story, and I loved each minute of it. Till next time, happy reading y'all. #CihAl #Uzakลžehir

Analyzing Episode 54. Season 2 aka Disruption by Design When you first watch episode 54, your focus immediately goes to how the bad guys keep winning. Be it Ecmel, Boran, Demir - all the aholes seem to be living it up. But scratch the surface, and another concept appears entirely. Destino, Karma, Kader, Fate - call it whatever you want. That's what I want you to remember as we don our Sherlock caps for yet another analysis. I've divided the whole thing into segments based on characters for easier navigation and understanding. So, here goes nothing. * Sadakat One of the characters to truly surprise me this episode was Sadakat. My vitriolic hatred for this woman is no hidden fact, but this one episode managed to make me see her side of things for once. And, maybe even understand her a little. We were all shocked by the scene where Nare, Alya, and Sadakat are talking about Boran and Cihan. I was mostly surprised because, for once, in 54 freaking episodes, Sadakat accepts her fault and doesn't look for a scapegoat. Her dialogues serve to impart extremely important points about herself, Boran, and Cihan, and how her upbringing helped shape the present circumstances. She admits that she was always afraid of the shadow of Ecmel lurking within Boran, which causes her to hand leadership to Cihan and keep Boran away from everything. But, in trying to protect her family and Albora, Sadakat inadvertently brings about the very thing she fears most - Boran becoming another Ecmel. Now, cast your mind back to the very first episode. We're introduced to Sadakat as an evil witch who's evil to Alya from the get-go and absolutely mental about keeping Deniz with the family at all times. I think I finally understand why. Guilt. Sadakat keeps pushing Boran away, until one day he takes it upon himself to go k-word Sulaiman to prove his worth, so to speak, which results in exile for him and supposedly death in a foreign country. Everything she does from that point on is based on years' worth of accumulated guilt. Alya is driving the car that results in the accident, so she wins the 'get the most shit from Sadakat' award immediately. But, again, that's just her guilt exacerbating things. As for Deniz, was Sadakat trying to avoid the same mistake she made with Boran with Deniz by holding on to him by hook or crook? So that Ecmel's shadow would never shape another family member's life again? Yep. That's probably also why she hates the idea of Cihan and Alya, because her guilt forces her to keep protecting Boran even in death. Because how could she allow Boran to lose yet another thing? In short, Sadakat tries to control the future of her family by trying to shape the circumstances, to make Cihan Aga and keep Boran away, but fails spectacularly. Why? Because fate has other plans. Boran was never meant to be kept away, and no matter how much Sadakat toiled as a mother, he was meant to take Ecmel's side over his own flesh and blood. And maybe Sadakat binds everyone else with a promise except herself because she might be the one to end what she started all those years ago. * Cihan Cihan's struggle in this episode was to try to find a way to neutralize Boran's poison. Because he's the reason Cihan's life is unraveling, because he's the man who controls Alya via Deniz. Throughout the episode, it seems like all is lost for him. Alya is forced to give in to Boran's condition, and Sadakat is framed for Vurgun's murder. And while Vurgun keeps his promise to Boran and takes his secrets with him to the grave, his death helps him speak what he could not say in life. It's no coincidence Cihan is the only one to find Vurgun's secret phone stashed in a hidey hole in the wall right after Cihan says he will bury Boran in regret. In this instance, too, we're shown that circumstances are pressing in on Cihan from all sides, but one dusty footstep later, Cihan finally finds what will possibly be the key to defeating Boran. As for Alya, she's Cihan's greatest strength and weakness - as it generally is in love. She comes into his life as an impossibility and ends up becoming his greatest truth. Cihan relents to Alya finding an apartment because he understands her duty to her son. But just as fears things are all out of his control, fate intervenes and gives him the opening he kept ignoring. Why? Because, as Cihan says, a man low enough to kill someone who saved his life is capable of pretty much anything. So, Cihan's course is redirected subtly, too, to a possibility that will help him achieve what he needs most at the time. * Boran Yeah, I don't really care much for the zombie, but this needs to be said. Throw your mind back to how Sadakat says all Boran's calculations turn out wrong. Though he's a sneaky troll who's not entirely as stupid as I thought, karma has a mile-long shit-list on this ahole. First, he records a will video to punish Cihan. He hopes that Cihan will fall for Alya but will forever suffer the pangs of conscience. In doing so, he'd never find completion in his love for Alya and would keep suffering. But, an Amal Bakir turns up at his grave out of the blue, runs into Cihan, and bam - he finds Boran. Which ironically helps Cihan overcome all his guilt pretty quickly. Next up, Alya. The video Boran records to control Alya's life ends up becoming the key to her freedom from him eventually. The one card we know he has now is Deniz, but there's Vurgun's phone to counteract this one now. And, finally, I get the feeling that the zombie has a hand in Meryem turning up like a bad penny out of nowhere. However, this ploy will fail too, because Meryem will have the same effect on Alya that Boran has on Cihan. In other words, destiny has all ends covered here, too. * Alya While there are those in the fandom who'd rather Alya be sick rather than expecting, I think that Alya truly might be pregnant. Here's why. And keep the overall theme of kader in mind as we go through this part. In the scene right before Alya gets dizzy, Kaya tells her, 'I don't know what to say to you, yenge, may God help you.' Then she walks into her office and just as she's about to continue her search for apartments, wham, a wave of dizziness. And right after the dizzy spell, lo and behold, Boran messages her saying, 'Your path can't cross with Cihan, or I take my son.' See, there it is again. That push and pull between circumstance and fate. While mere mortals can shape circumstances, like Boran, there's no interfering with fate. And, what's fate always tried to do in this story? Keep Alya with Cihan. So, how does a pregnancy fit into this angle? Boran doesn't simply want to keep Alya and Cihan separated. He now wants to put an end to their relationship in every way. Because if he can't have Alya, neither will Cihan. He's done everything in his power to try to cut all bonds between CihAl, but every time he tries, fate throws out another trump card. And what's the best way to forge a bond between two people, no one, not even themselves, can break? A child. A link that will bind Alya to Cihan in the most elemental way there is. The perfect personification of Boran's defeat. Now, I may be wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but those are the vibes I keep getting from as early on as ep 47, where Sadakat is the one trying to convince Alya to leave. Besides, maybe baby, fate also has another surprise up its sleeve for Alya *cue Jaws soundtrack* I'm referring to Meryem, of course. Why do we need Meryem in the overall scheme of kader, anyway? Because Alya needs to learn what fate's already taught Cihan. That love is not something you quietly step away from. Nor is it something you protect by distance, or preserve through sacrifice. Cihan has already gone through that trial. He tried to bury his feelings under duty, under guilt, under everything Boran set in motion, but still ended up right back at Alya. Not just by choice alone, but by something stronger than it. Something that kept correcting his path every time he strayed too far from it. And thatโ€™s where Meryem comes in. The final piece of the puzzle to make Alya realize she's changed, even though she doesn't know it yet. While she may think she can distance herself from Cihan, her own actions prove her false. Meryem will help remove the illusion in Alya's head that distance is sustainable between herself and Cihan. So you see, even though there are all kinds of mess in the episode, underneath it all is a disruption. Be it in the form of bitter clarity, a hidden phone, a possible new life, or an unexpected return. When things look like chaos but are actually headed towards something much more deliberate - a resolution where the story corrects every path back to where it was always meant to lead. Till later, happy reading, folks. #CihAl #Uzakลžehir

Alright, here's the epic towel rant from tonight; And so that's what kind of tipped me off in real time. I was like: wait a minute. Is Judge Doolin ruling from the bench right now? And then I was like: wait a minute. He's ruling from the bench and ordering them to appoint a new prosecutor and potentially the Attorney General. Oh my word. Howโ€”what is this? Iโ€”this wasn't on my bingo card. Even now I'm just like: Oh my God, I can't believe he did that. Judge Doolinโ€”in a good way. I'm just like: Oh my God, there is hope. And then to follow it up with: "Oh yeah, I'm thinking about a hearing on the contempt." Oh my Godโ€”you're telegraphing. You're going to have a contempt hearing after the Attorney General is potentially on the case. The other witnesses, however, are left in this position where they have this kind of not really well-fundedโ€”like kind of spastic prosecution, like the special prosecutors on the Kearney cases. Then you got the December 23rd, 2023 criminal charges against Aidan that were charged in Dedham District Court, 23rd or 26th or so. And that was for illegallyโ€”allegedlyโ€”recording Lindsey Gaetani and then submitting an edited version of the recording into court for some reason. I don't know why Aidan did that, especially apparently when there's an original version of the recording pursuant to some of the statements in court. And then also for intimidating Lindseyโ€”for allegedly going over there on December 23rd, 2023โ€”against Karen Read's advice and against his lawyers' advice, apparently, according to a leaked group chat message from Facebook in 2024โ€”in May of 2024โ€”going over to Lindsey's apartment. And then according to the affidavit from the search warrant for Karen Read's cell phoneโ€”allegedly telling Lindsey that she shouldn't cooperate with the grand jury. She shouldโ€”she could remove information from her phone or somethingโ€”that Aidan would get her a lawyer, but only if she agreed to meet with a lawyer only with him present, because she had, quote, "broken his trust." It just likeโ€”wild stuff. And that new grand jury, by the way, was apparentlyโ€”it did go forward. And then in time it came out that itโ€”that was about Karen and Aidan and witness intimidation and conspiracy, because Aidan Kearneyโ€”between October and Novemberโ€”really August and November of 2023โ€”it started telling Lindsey Gaetani about his communications with Karen Read that includedโ€”in writingโ€”Exhibit O to Karen Read search warrant affidavit, which says that Karen Read told Aidan Kearney that in November of 2023โ€”November 28, 2023, to be specificโ€”that Karen Read told Aidan Kearney that Karen Read and her team at ex parte conversations with former U.S. Attorney Josh Levyโ€”which was right in the window of time that Jessica Leslie, the grand juror leaker, was leaking information. Leslie started leaking in August of 2022โ€”which is the same month that Alan Jackson joined Karen Read's legal team. And Josh Levyโ€”who was one of the U.S. Attorneys in charge of that grand juryโ€”Leslie was leaking about four different cases: probably the Birchmore case, definitely the Read and O'Keefe case, definitely the CDL case. One more case. We can't reallyโ€”the group of us journalists involved in thisโ€”can't really figure out. So right in the middle of thatโ€”November of 2023โ€”Josh Levy is leaking ex parte grand jury information to Karen Read, which she's puttingโ€”she's telling Aidan Kearney about; he's putting it in writing. He just was trying to just show off for Lindsey, but you don't likeโ€”come onโ€”like what is it? First day in the IC, bro? I'm not in the IC. I'm not part of the government. I'm a towel. But anywayโ€”so Aidan's bragging to Lindsey, and I don't think that was a very good idea. I mean, she's brilliant and stuff, but likeโ€”why would you ever say that to her? Don't say that stuff. But anywayโ€”like, why would you sayโ€”even if it's your significant otherโ€”unless they are read-in on the intel that you are sharingโ€”why would you ever, ever, ever share that with someone? It exposes them to an incredible liabilityโ€”which, if you love them, don't do it. It also exposes your own credibility to an incredible risk of liability. You will never be trusted by the intelligence community again. Pillow talk and honeypots are how they trap operatives. If you chase sex, they will compromise you. How can you not understand that? So if you get compromised by someone who's not an agentโ€”just someone who's your partner and you're just telling them stuff about protected federal investigationsโ€”what do you think your reputation is going to be like among the intelligence community when you're doing that and they haven't even honeypotted you? You just voluntarily started putting this shit in writing. They're going to look at you like you are out of your mind. So anywayโ€”Karen Read apparently is telling Aidan Kearney that she's having ex parte conversations with Josh Levy. Now, the grand jury that Leslie was leaking from was impaneled in May of 2022 when Rachael Rollins used to be U.S. Attorney in Boston. Now think about this. In 2020, Rachael Rollins and Aidan Kearneyโ€”Rachael Rollins, a hyper-liberal known for her soft-on-crime stance. We'll also hear Rollins hated Michael Morrissey. Anyway, Rollins worked with Turtle Boy to send a Republican operative named Rayla Campbell to Joe Kennedy Jr.'s events in the Senate race against Ed Markey so that Ed Markey could win the Senate seat. Now, interestingly enough, Rachael Rollins then got appointed to the position of U.S. Attorney right after that. And you might say: well, Grant, that's a stretch. No, noโ€”because then within a few months, Rachael Rollinsโ€”part of the reason she gets thrown out of office by the DOJ OIGโ€”is because she attends an event in Andover withโ€”guess who?โ€”Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of the then-president who appointed her. Now, what does that mean? Well, if you really think about the geopolitical implications of the 2020 Senate race between Ed Markey in Massachusetts and Joe Kennedy Jr.โ€”well, one of the things you're going to realize is thatโ€”think about 2020. The leadership around Biden did not know that the chaos of 2024 was going to happen with Kamala and Biden not really being up to it. You're thinking ahead to 2024. Why? Who's your biggest target if you are a sitting Democrat and you're worried about a primary challenge four years from now? Well, what if JFK'sโ€”what is itโ€”nephew or whatever it isโ€”is in the House of Representatives? And what if JFK started his career in the House of Representatives? And what if that new young Kennedy with red hair and sort of a photogenic face? What if he is running for JFK's old Senate seat? What if he's on the same exact trajectory as JFK? Oh, we can't have that. Weโ€”as the Biden White Houseโ€”cannot have Joe Kennedy Jr. beating Ed Markey for Senate. And how it got to the point that somebody talked to Rachael Rollins and she came up with the brilliant idea to reach out to Turtle Boy so that Turtle Boy would talk to Rayla Campbell to send her to Joe Kennedy Jr.'s events to help Markeyโ€”I don't know. But that's why I think Rachael Rollins became U.S. Attorneyโ€”someone who, in my opinion, was uniquely unqualified and fundamentally unethically un-predisposed to being able to run that office. Who then in turn immediately tried to interfere in the 2022 Suffolk DA primary between Kevin Hayden and Ricardo O'Rourkeโ€”because Rollins wanted to see her progressive vision continue through O'Rourkeโ€”so she worked with Daniel Medwedโ€”the same professor who was involved with advocating the media on behalf of Karen Read's team. She worked with Daniel Medwed to get a story leaked about how a non-existent federal probe into Kevin Haydenโ€”to increase Ricardo O'Rourke's chances in the Suffolk DA primary. Sound familiar? Oh, hell yeah. So anywayโ€”between November of 2022 and May of 2023โ€”you got this weird situation where Rollins knows she's getting forced out; Levy's going to take over the office. The people who take Rollins out are Josh Levy, Bill Abley, and still head of the criminal divisionโ€”Dustin Chao, I thinkโ€”still head of the public integrity unit, and then executive officer who is also the press secretary or the communications director of the office. Those four peopleโ€”without being named; they're named by titleโ€”were the people who cooperated with the DOJ to take Rollins outโ€”DOJ-OIG to take Rollins out. Now, why is that interesting? Well, oneโ€”because it shows that people in that office knew that Rachael Rollins had a proclivity for weaponizing leaks about non-existent federal probes to interfere in particular district attorney races and matters. Secondโ€”Rachael Rollins and Michael Morrissey had a bifurcated history of ten years. One: Rachael Rollins had this list of 25 crimes she wouldn't prosecute, and other DAs critiqued herโ€”not just Michael Morrissey but others. Rollinsโ€”I'm pretty sureโ€”was the one who first called Morrissey a "meatball," in fact, because of his criticism of Rollins over that issue. Rachael Rollinsโ€”I thinkโ€”has a proclivity, in my opinion, to hold a bit of a grudge. When she became U.S. Attorney and she realized she was on the way outโ€”well, maybe the Sandra Birchmore probe started back in May of 2022 because former chief of the Canton policeโ€”Ken Berkowitzโ€”went to the FBI and told them that the FBI covered upโ€”the MSP unit detailed to the Norfolk DA covered up Sandra Birchmore's murderโ€”potentially because Yuri Bukhenik and John Fanning used to work in Stoughton with Matt Farwell and Robert Devine and Billy Farwellโ€”I think they all worked there. And furthermoreโ€”that Brian Tully, the unit commander, was partners with John Fanning for 20 years. All right, and in that regardโ€”it is very interesting, I thinkโ€”that Chief Berkowitzโ€”who may have been very offended that his unit... So Sandra Birchmore was murdered on February 1st, 2021, at 9:23 p.m. in her apartment in Canton. Okayโ€”on February 4th, Monday in the morningโ€”the Canton police do a wellness check after they get a call from herโ€”Sandra'sโ€”colleagues at the school where she worked as an administrative assistant. Now the Canton police respondโ€”on Monday, February 4thโ€”by Wednesday, February 6th. The Canton police have collected the following evidence in order. And if you don't believe me, you can read pagesโ€”I think 97 through 101โ€”of the Canton Police Department audit report released in April of 2025. Point by point. Number one: the Canton police confirmโ€”via a witness who was the maintenance worker at Sandra's apartment buildingโ€”that Matt Farwell was the man on camera outside Sandra's apartment in the elevator at 9:23 p.m. on February 1stโ€”which is exactly when Sandra died. Two: that the man was Matt Farwell, and he was the same man who helped Sandra move into her apartment. Three: that when the Canton PD went to Sandra's school, they got information that Farwell was telling people that Sandra was pregnant with his childโ€”that he had abused her since she was a childโ€”and that he was going to quote "take care of the problem himself" if Sandra decided to carry the baby to term. All right. All of that informationโ€”by February 6th of 2021โ€”was passed over to the MSP. John Fanning and this whole unitโ€”I thinkโ€”really then facilitate a report sometime over the next six to 12 months that exonerates Farwell and says Sandra dies from self-harm. Well, I think that's why Ken Berkowitz blew the whistle before he died of cancerโ€”and that's why there was a grand jury impaneled in May of 2022โ€”and it was really about the cover-up of Sandra Birchmore's murder. Wellโ€”oneโ€”it was about Sandra Birchmore's murder. Why does that make everything so interesting? Because I think that the investigation wasn't just about who killed Sandra and whyโ€”but how was it ruled aโ€”the result of self-harmโ€”instead of the very obvious murder that it was. Wellโ€”that startsโ€”2022, I thinkโ€”May of 2022โ€”the grand jury. Jessica Leslie was on the grand juryโ€”leakerโ€”who's going to be sentenced on October 4th of 2025. I think Jessica Leslieโ€”ladies and gentlemenโ€”in August of 2022 somehow leaked to Karen Readโ€”Alan Jacksonโ€”that the Norfolk DA was dirty because they covered upโ€”and that MSP unitโ€”because they covered up Sandra Birchmore's murder. All rightโ€”so therefore, Alan Jacksonโ€”that's the skeleton in the closet. It wasn't what the people in the house were doing. I'm still a little suspect of who they knowโ€”but I don't think that's the big deal. I don't think Jen McCabe's social life is the big deal. Nobody caresโ€”nobody fucking cares. Sorry for cussing. The big issue is that Jen was friends with Tully. Tully's unit knew literally where the bodies were buried. And theyโ€”I thinkโ€”they brought on the PIโ€”Marty Kraftโ€”and Kate Peterโ€”to insulate their exposure from the coming publicity that they knew was going to be brought upon them by Alan Jackson. And so they were worried. And who would you bring in if you had covered up a murder? If you were a MSP unitโ€”you'd bring in someone like Kate Peter. Because you can read her in on that. She's hardened. She doesn't give a fuck. She lost two of her kidsโ€”and I don't think she even fucking cared. So who the fuck's the perfect person be like: "Bruh, if that shit gets national attention, we're fucked. So you better control that fucking narrative and handle all these like different people that get too close to thisโ€”or we're going to be exposed for Birchmore." But let me bring it back to the point hereโ€”which is in 2022, the feds clearly were starting to poke around. And come 2023โ€”I think Brian Tully's unit was desperate. Who was going to find out because of the coverage of the Read case? Could they make sure that Kate Peter got close enough to Netflix and Gretchen Voss so that they couldn't find out what was actually going on? And could the Birchmore cover-up be kept upโ€”even in light of the national spotlight? When you think about the fact that some people may not have been loyal to the Justice for John O'Keefe movementโ€”but were instead primarily loyal to Brian Tully's unit. And when you think about the fact that maybe Tully's unit didn't run the best investigation of Karen Readโ€”maybe there were some flaws. But if you think about the fact that they did get herโ€”but if you think about it in the context of: Karen knew from the jump that the MSP were dirty over Birchmoreโ€”then you understand: Karenโ€”that's why it was going to become an incident. Everyone knewโ€”everyone around Tully, his friends, all of themโ€”the unitโ€”they knew they covered up Birchmore's murder. And they knew Karen had it in her hands if she could just figure out the PR. And that's exactly what she didโ€”to put enough pressure on them. They took her to trial anywayโ€”and it destroyed the fucking Norfolk DAโ€”destroyed Brian Tully's unit. It cost them dearlyโ€”and she's a tactical fucking genius. I think Brian Tully thought he was slicker than he was by using the prosecution of Aidan Kearneyโ€”not to get a genuinelyโ€”in my opinionโ€”bad guy who was deserving of the indictment handed up by a grand jury of his peers. But because Tully wanted to know what the real target of the federal probe is. If you don't know what a backhand is, folksโ€”a backhand is where you investigate one thing on the surface because you're dealing with a very high-level operation like the state policeโ€”who are a paramilitary intelligence-gathering operation. So you trick them. You make them think they're under investigation for John's death and the investigation of that death. But reallyโ€”you're investigating them for the cover-up of Sandra Birchmore's murder. And that's exactly what I think happened to this unit. That's what I think Brian Tully was trying to figure outโ€”from August of 2023 until about December. I think they eventually put it togetherโ€”and by August of 2024, Matthew Farwell got indicted. Nowโ€”it's a question of all this as a result of today. I want to be very clear: this is what was called for. There needed to be an independent voice with power and who takes no nonsenseโ€”who came into this and said: Nopeโ€”it's out of your hands. And that's what Judge Doolin did today. Someone just needed to not either be involved with Karen Read, Aidan Kearney, or the Norfolk DAโ€”or Kate Peter or Marty Kraftโ€”and prosecute this. Now, all those other witnessesโ€”I have no idea what the hell is going to happen there. But at least for Lindseyโ€”Judge Doolin was like: enough of this nonsense. And that's why today was such a big deal in light of that historical contextโ€”because just tracing that very insidious pattern of events over the past 18 monthsโ€”you can see this became a proxy war. It was Michael Morrissey on one side with his marching soldiers: Brian Tully, Kate Peter, Marty Kraft. And then it was Karen Read and the DOJ on the other side. Okay. And their soldiers were like the Free Karen Read movement and Turtle Boy and Natalie and all these other people. This was an intelligence community proxy war. And that's why I've been trying to tell people for so long: Lindsey Gaetani was not involved. She was an unwitting pawn. These two factions both took advantage of herโ€”including Brian Tullyโ€”who was more interested in preserving his unit's reputation than actually defending the interest of the vulnerable. In my opinion, I think Brian Tully is a terrible person. Does that mean that he's a bad person for trying to hold Karen Read accountable for John O'Keefe's death? No, of course not. He's a bad person because in what fucking world do youโ€”as a fucking state police officerโ€”who youโ€”you are entrustedโ€”not just to get the bad guysโ€”but to protect the most fucking vulnerable? One: how do you justify what happened with Sandra Birchmore? Two: how the fuck do you get it in your fucking mind that you're going to take a 15-year unredacted extraction of a fucking vulnerable victim's cell phone and release it to a fucking defendant known for promulgating exactly that material? What fucking headspace? What satanic fucking chamber do you and Kate Peter have to be drinking blood from fucking cups in to think that that's fucking okay? Fuck you. How do you even get in the headspace where doing something like that to a fucking victim becomes acceptable. The rot in that unitโ€”whether enabled by Morrissey or whether he didn't know about itโ€”I don't fucking know. But the point is: the rot in that unit was so deep that they lost their fucking souls. They didn't think of victims as victims. They re-victimized victims because it was a political fucking warโ€”and these people are so hardened, I guess, that they don't understand what it means to be vulnerable. And these were police officersโ€”detectivesโ€”people entrusted to uphold and protect the dignity of the most vulnerableโ€”and they fucking used victims to advance some political agendaโ€”to deal with the fact that they covered up a fucking murder. I'm done being gentle about this. Fuck these people. And I'm not saying that it was wrong for them to investigate Karen Read. I am pleased someone tried to prosecute her. I'm pissed at them because they were thinking about it from the perspective of their own liability for an unrelated caseโ€”and they fucked everything upโ€”and introducing Kate Peter to this shit. Oh my God. It's a disgrace. It's a disgrace to the people who were hurt. It's a disgrace to the vulnerable. I frankly do not understand how Jen McCabe, Brian Tully, and Kate Peter go to bed each night. I don't get it. I don't know. Maybe there's something that shuts off the GABA-1 receptor or something and just makes you go to bed. I don't know. Never heard of such a thing. But I'm just saying: I don't know how you do it. How do you do it? But anywayโ€”Judge Doolinโ€”without giving a... extemporaneous, uh, bloviating cuss-based rant like I just didโ€”instead, in my opinion, is like: fuck all of you! You're not being involved in this prosecution anymore. Someone's gonna protect this fucking womanโ€”Lindsey Gaetani. I'm making you appoint someone! I love that man. Good for Judge Doolin. But stillโ€”we never should have gone to this point. This is incredible. With the... the... the MSP. The fact that they had a unit operating like this for so long. This is worse than what John Connolly and Whitey Bulger did. This is institutional rot that is so pervasive that it requires fundamental reform of the MSP. They're not incapable ofโ€”um, uhโ€”solving crimes. I'm sure most of the MSP are wonderful. Anywayโ€”my point is: I don't think the state police officers that I generally run intoโ€”or troopersโ€”are bad people. I think most of them are wonderful. They've never been really mean to me. They do good work. They're out there protecting our roads. They stop people from speeding. Theyโ€”what else do they do? They go after commercial truck violations. They investigate homicidesโ€”like, on the whole. And this is why I think we have to be careful about how we talk about this. I am not saying that the entire MSP is just rotten. I'm saying that when you have factions or sections within the institution that understand its machinations and are able to thus manipulate the bureaucratic structure and avoid accountabilityโ€”you lose the confidence of everyone. And how do you think some of those good troopers feel when they have to go out there? Yesโ€”people like me are going to smile at them and bless them and whateverโ€”because I know they're not part of the problem. But most people look at them and they think that they're fucking hated. They don't deserve that. They literally put their lives on the line for us every day. And if we're going to give them the respect they deserveโ€”if we're going to make the profession have the respect that it deservesโ€”then this kind of institutional rot can't be looked at as just an embarrassment. And it can't be looked at as something thatโ€”oh, we just wish didn't happen. Maybe some guys are going to go away. Noโ€”you point at it. You scream it from the rooftops and you say: if this happens even onceโ€”then we have so failed as an institution; we must fundamentally reform from the ground up. And this wasn't just once. It was Birchmore. It was the phone extraction. It was the SA report leak over and over and over and over again. They knew the law. They were an old boys' club. They abused it. They had coverโ€”and it was systemically enabled. And that's why I thinkโ€”to save the profession of policing in Massachusettsโ€”there needs to be a full-on unbridled discussion about how this happenedโ€”how the personalities involved were able to do what they did. And we can't be so tribalistic that because someone we support as to their views on one case, right? We cannot be so tribalistic that we just block out everything bad that they do. Or this rot will continue. And it is pernicious. It is insidious. It is invidious. It undermines the faith that citizens completely removed from this situation have in our system of government. It undermines victims' confidence in the ability to seek redress in the face of serious fucking harmโ€”because they think the system doesn't actually care about them. It's just using them to get someone bigger. We cannot allow this to perpetuate. And the only way to fix it is to hold up situations like what happened to Birchmoreโ€”Sandra Birchmoreโ€”and what happened to Lindsey Gaetaniโ€”hold them up in the national spotlightโ€”and say: weโ€”the MSPโ€”have failed you. Brian Tully failed these people. John Fanning failed these people. Nick Guarino failed these people. Yuri Bukhenik failed these people. We need to say that. We need to highlight it. We need to say: this happened even once. Therefore, we are not good enough. Not only are we not good enoughโ€”the very fact that either of these things were able to happenโ€”the Birchmore cover-up, the phone extraction leakโ€”is such a pervasive, systemic degradation of the faith that victims and the public have in the justice systemโ€”that our only option is to talk about thisโ€”congressional hearings. We need the State House to have congressional hearings. We need these people to answer for what they did. And we need to make sure it never happens again. And the only way you do that is by finding out what aspects of the bureaucratic structure allowed this to happen. And it's not going to be comfortable. I don't think it's going to be comfortable for anyone to talk about the fallout of any of thisโ€”but that's exactly what happened at the CCC on a smaller scale. And if this country mattersโ€”if this form of government mattersโ€”if this republic mattersโ€”then we will fix this. We will fix it together. We will address the hard questions. We will address the uncomfortable questions. We will shed our prejudices and polemical biases at the door. We will engage in no fear, no favoritismโ€”and we will look only for the truth and nothing but it. And if you are incapable of doing thatโ€”you're contributingโ€”either consciously or subconsciouslyโ€”to the problem. It's our only option. And you can't just say: because they prosecuted Karen Read, we can't talk about anything bad that they did. That's tribalism. That's polemical. That's what drove us to this point.

This is Apollo. This story still stings. I returned from a tour in Iraq in early 2015. My wife was pregnant with our first son. I knew I would not be going anywhere for several months, unless there was a dire need. We decided the time was right to get a dog to add to our growing family. I don't remember how we found Apollo. We got him from the shelter, but I don't know if Dolly saw him online or if we just stumbled across him. I was struck by his amazing eyes. I'd had an Australian Shepherd before and I knew it was a breed that I loved. He hopped right in my car. Dolly even took the back seat so I could sit next to my new best friend. Together, we brought him to his new home. What a great dog he was. We immediately became tied at the hip. I took him for walks, runs, and hikes off leash. I put in the time to train him; we would walk to the bakery or the butcher shop (at the time, we lived the town life), tell him to sit outside, and he would be there on the sidewalk still sitting here when we came out. It was wonderful having such a happy and well-trained dog. Everybody loved him. They'd never seen a dog with eyes like his. I'm sure he loved all the attention too. My first concern came with my newborn son. He did not do as well with children as I would have liked. At times, he gave him a sideways glance that I didn't like. I kept an eye on him as best I could when he was around my son, but he had given me no reason not to trust him, so I didn't worry much. He was wonderful in every other way. Then, suddenly, he wasn't. We had a notary over to collect signatures from us so we could close on a refinance of our home. After sitting at our dining room table for about an hour, signing papers, the notary rose to leave. Apollo, who had been sitting at my feet, must have been startled by the sudden movement. Like a bolt of lightning, he bit. Just once, but it was a shock. The notary was a real mensch. He didn't get angry. He showed humanity. He knew that we would never have had Apollo unrestrained if we had had any idea that he would do something like that. If only everyone was so understanding as he. But fear crept into my heart that there was something about my dog that was not compatible with the family life that we had. We kept Apollo on a shorter leash after that, both figuratively and literally. The off leash hikes were a thing of the past, but we hoped this would prove to be just a one-off anomaly. It wasn't. A month and a half later, just days out from another deployment, I was sitting in my living room talking to a very good friend, a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the USMC (who, as an aside, donated $1,000 to our GiveSendGo campaign to #SaveLucy, thank you ๐Ÿ™). Apollo was familiar with him already, so I was off my guard, and didn't notice Apollo giving him the stinkeye until it was too late. Apollo lunged and bit. He immediately backed off, but the horrid realization came to me at that moment that my fears were true. My options were limited on the eve of a deployment. To socialize Apollo and train this behavior out of him would take time. I didn't have time. We also didn't have family in the area and Dolly was pregnant again. I couldn't leave my pregnant wife alone for the duration of my tour with a dog who had shown a tendency to bite. I couldn't turn a blind eye to the sideways look he occasionally gave my infant son. Not anymore. I made the devastating decision to rehome him. On what I knew would be our final ride together, he hopped right into the front seat and looked at me, tongue dangling out of his mouth in a happy, sloppy pant, his nub of a tail bobbing up and down, wondering what wonderful adventure daddy was taking him on this time. I'm sure he was confident it was going to be a great time no matter what. It felt like betrayal to me. When we reached the shelter, he faithfully followed me in. We sat in a corner. He leaned against my legs and I stroked his head one final time. It felt like we sat there forever, but I didn't mind. I would have been happy for time to stop, to stay in that moment, just me and my dog, stripped of all externalities, for eternity. But time didn't stop. At length, the door opened and a lady entered. Apollo pressed in against my shins. His 40 pound weight felt heavy. Crushing. I gave him one last embrace, then closed my eyes. "That's a good boy," I whispered, though I couldn't bring myself to look. "I'll always love you." She took Apollo and led him through the door, never for me to see him again. Even today, when I close my eyes, I can still feel the weight of his warm body pressing against mine, trusting me to keep him safe. That was as hard a thing as I've ever done in my life. It was a no-kill shelter, but I played things close to the chest. I did not tell them the worst details. I only mentioned my fear of possible aggression against my child while I was deployed. I did not want to jeopardize Apollo's chance at another opportunity. For months, I kept checking the shelter's website for information about him, but I never saw an update. I do not know what became of him, sadly. I got back home and Dolly asked me where Apollo was. I don't remember if I said anything. I was numb. I hadn't told her where I was going or what I was doing. I had not wanted anything to change my mind. I knew my heart wasn't in it, but I wasn't going to be stopped. It was the right thing to do for my wife, son, and community. Her tears flowed when she realized what I had done. She also loved Apollo. I went to lay on the bed upstairs and be alone. Just weeks later, in a mudhole in the desert, I met my sweet Lucy and my heart began to heal. Saving her from that war zone helped me deal with the lingering guilt I felt about Apollo. I continue to feel the sting of that experience. I wouldn't change what I did though. I love dogs. I will always stand up for dogs when they are mistreated. I will adopt unwanted dogs when I am able. A great measure of a man is how he treats dogs. I aim to always pass that test. But I will always defend human life. Only humans are made in the image of God. I hope and pray that God has a place for dogs when this life is over, but humans He created with souls destined for glory. "You have never talked to a mere mortal," CS Lewis explained. "Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors." I completely agree. I love dogs. They have no guile in them, no duplicity. A dog will not tell you a lie. I like them better than I like people, often. But I cannot choose a dog over a life that was uniquely created to glorify the Almighty (Isaiah 43:7). I will always protect human life. That is why I served. That is why I deployed several times. To protect people, even when they didn't realize they needed protecting. I failed once. I received a report about a plot to blow up a bomb in Beirut. I got it out with all the speed and precision I could, but it got bogged down by the sideshow of the editing process for hours. I got distracted and didn't follow up on it aggressively. In the end, I'm sure the bureaucrats in their cubicles transliterated the names correctly. I'm sure they crossed every T and dotted every I. But at a price. A devastating price. I woke up the next morning to read in the news that a bomb had gone off in Beirut. It was carried out by the people my report said would carry it out. It took place in the exact locale I said it would take place. 43 people dead. Hundreds wounded. Families shattered. I didn't know these people, but my heart sank. Human life is sacred. I will always work to defend it. If I can save a few dogs along the way, great. That is also the Lord's work. But I will never keep a dog that is a danger to my neighbors. Whatever their sins, their harassment, libel, and cunning deceits, they are made in the image of God with souls destined for eternity. Lucy, my 11-year-old dog that survived ISIS, is no danger to my them. I know it in my very bones. The Mountains Have Eyes said that the DA told him I was not a responsible dog owner when he called to inquire about Lucy. This viewpoint is informed by a false impression given to her by our gossipy, well-connected neighbors, not by the facts. I want to tell her about Apollo. Dolly Spice- Jones ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽต Leisha

Trooper John Fanning, one of Michael Proctorโ€™s supervisors at the NCDAO State Police Detective Unit (SPDU), reportedly โ€œsupervisedโ€ the jury at the #KarenReadTrial. As if this conflict alone wasnโ€™t concerning, the fact that Fanning was later under an inconclusive internal investigation by the MSP for โ€œwhether [he] failed to adequately supervise by not taking appropriate action after Trooper Proctor sent inappropriate texts to a group of subordinate members, specifically, if he took any corrective action to address the unprofessionalism and inappropriateness of Trooper Proctor's textsโ€โ€”thereby making him a potential witness & demonstrating his clear conflict, is incredibly concerning. In the full sit down interview w/ #KarenRead & Attorney Alan Jackson, Ted Daniel asks them about the potential jury tampering that occurred at the first trialโ€”notably with the ultra curious last minute dismissal of 3 jurors, whose body language, reactions/expressions & outward demeanor appeared favorable to the defense, in addition to the โ€œsupervisionโ€ of the jury by one of Michael Proctorโ€™s bosses, NCDAO SPDU Trooper John Fanning. It would be dishonest to try to claim that Trooper Fanning had no stake in the outcome of the Karen Read trial. Arguably, anyone with ties to the NCDAO, its SPDU or the Canton Police Departmentโ€”and notably those with close ties to Michael Proctor, like his own supervisor, have clear conflicts of interest in this case. As you may recall, Trooper John Fanning was the lead investigator in the Sandra Birchmore case where he and his investigators concluded that Birchmore committed suicide while allegedly pregnant with a fellow Police Officer, Matthew Farwellโ€™s baby, and wasnโ€™t the obvious victim of murder by that same Officer who also raped and groomed her from a young age as revealed by 30k+ text messages inexplicably โ€œoverlookedโ€ by Trooper Nicholas Guarino & Fanning. The Feds investigated that โ€œinvestigationโ€ too and have since indicted Matthew Farwell in Sandra Birchmoreโ€˜s murder. Additionally, Trooper Fanning was in one of Michael Proctorโ€™s abhorrent group text message threads where he disparaged Karen Read. Fanning was subsequently internally investigated by MSP for this, and his failure to properly โ€œsuperviseโ€ Trooper Proctorโ€”interesting that such a person would be chosen to โ€œsuperviseโ€ the jury. In a statement from the State Police, they said: โ€œThe Departmentโ€™s internal affairs investigation determined that there was insufficient evidence to prove or disprove the allegation that Lieutenant Fanning violated rules and regulations by failing to uphold the responsibilities of a supervisory member. This allegation has been classified as unfounded.โ€ Frankly, given the circumstances of this case, it would be concerning if any member of the State Police oversaw and supervised the jury. Why was ANY member of the State Police supervising the jury? Has anyone ever heard of this beforeโ€”Police Officers from the same agency that investigated, testified against & was a part of the prosecution against a defendant having one of their personnel in charge of and in direct control of the jury? This canโ€™t possibly be a standard practice due to the obvious existing conflict, no? Plus, were it standard protocol, then why wasnโ€™t the defense made aware of this fact until 10 minutes before making closing argument, after a nearly 10 week long trial? โ€”โ€”โ€” Something majorly stinks about this, and perhaps it sheds some light on something peculiar that one of the deliberating jurors, who was recently interviewed by Aidan Kearney, kept saying in regard to the juryโ€™s deliberative process. Specifically, something that stood out to me from juror Ronโ€™s interview was his repeated use and references of the other jurorsโ€™ use of the term โ€œdistractorsโ€ to qualify or describe the abundant evidence representing โ€œreasonable doubtโ€ brought out by the defense at trial. โ€œDistractors.โ€ Itโ€™s somewhat of a novel term, especially in this context, and is obviously antithetical to a juryโ€™s duty to assess a case based on the proof beyond a reasonable doubt standard, which is inherently intertwined with an assessment of the existence of, or lack thereof, reasonable doubt. There was no evidence or instructions from the court that came out at trial directing jurors to view defense evidence or ARCCA experts, for instance, as โ€œdistractors,โ€ and the jury is very specifically instructed not to view/consume/bring any outside information into their deliberations. In other words, if theyโ€™re unsure who the ARCCA experts were there on behalf of (the Feds), theyโ€™re specifically told not to โ€œfill in the blankโ€ with information thatโ€™s not there, or evidence that didnโ€™t come in at trial. So where did the informationโ€”this use of the term โ€œdistractorsโ€ come from? Who fed this term and this concept to the jury? The reason why it seems like it was โ€œfedโ€ to the jury is because it goes against everything the court, Judge Beverly Cannone, instructed them on. So, what prompted the whole โ€œdistractorsโ€ concept to taint the jurorsโ€™ minds and deliberations? โ€”โ€”โ€” What immediately came to mind was the jury tampering by court clerk Becky Hill in the Alex Murdaugh murder trial. In that case, according to Murdaughโ€™s attorneys, Ms. Hill โ€œinvented a story about a Facebook post to remove a juror she believed might not vote guiltyโ€. Judge Clifton Newman, who oversaw the murder trial, removed the female juror from the panel. According to the Murdaugh defense motion, Ms. Hill had gone to Judge Newman โ€“ the day after Murdaugh testified, not long before closing arguments โ€“ claiming that she had seen a post in the local Facebook group โ€˜Walterboro Word of Mouthโ€™ from the jurorโ€™s former husband, Tim Stone. The post purportedly claimed that the juror was drinking with her ex-husband and, when she became drunk, she expressed her views on whether Murdaugh was innocent or guilty. A follow-up post from an account called Timothy Stone apologised for the post saying that he was driven by โ€œSatanโ€. Murdaughโ€™s attorneys claimed that the Mr. Stone behind the Facebook posts was actually a random Georgia man who was ranting about his wifeโ€™s aunt โ€“ and has no connection to the case. Additionally, information from jurors had come to the defenseโ€™s attention about inappropriate comments supposedly made to them by Ms. Hill while she was โ€œsupervisingโ€ themโ€”the same role as โ€œsupervisorโ€ that Trooper John Fanning allegedly played in the Karen Read trial. In Murdaughโ€™s case, the jurors were *actually* brought back into the court and were called to the stand one by one and questioned about potential comments that may have tainted their verdict. A female juror, identified only as juror Z, said that Ms. Hill had told some of the jurors to โ€œwatch [Murdaugh] closely.โ€ โ€œTo me, it felt like ... she made it feel like he was already guilty,โ€ juror Z said. A separate juror, Juror E, said that he heard Ms. Hill say โ€œwatch [Murdaughโ€™s] body languageโ€, but claimed that this did not affect his decision. โ€”โ€”โ€” There were reports, at the time of the dismissal of the 3 defense-favorable jurors at Karen Readโ€™s trial, that right before closing arguments, Trooper Fanning had reported the information responsible for dismissing these jurors to Judge Cannone. Among that information was reportedly a story about one of those jurors, claiming theyโ€™d been overheard discussing the case while drinking at a bar (or something to that effect)โ€”a story that sounded highly suspicious at the time, particularly given the fact that Trooper Fanning had allegedly had that information weeks before, but never reported it to the court. The similarity in Becky Hill and John Fanningโ€™s โ€œstoriesโ€ leading to the dismissal of defense-favorable jurors is rather uncanny. โ€”โ€”โ€” Is it not problematic to have individualsโ€”with conflicts of interest, who are also potential witnesses, and who seemingly have a vested interest in the outcome of the trialโ€”be in charge of overseeing and supervising the jury? Iโ€™ve attached the referenced MSP Internal Investigative Report for Trooper Fanning to this post (attached in the comments below). Whatโ€™s troubling is that, despite acknowledging in their report that โ€œthese allegations came to light on June 10, 2024, during the trial,โ€ they didnโ€™t immediately initiate an internal investigation, but instead waited until AFTER the trial ended, July 3, 2024, to launch their internal investigation, almost as if they were planning on not initiating an investigation had Karen Read been convicted, because apparently in that case the misconduct wouldโ€™ve been justifiedโ€ฆ or something? It should also be noted that this same practice was employed for most, if not all, of the other Police Officers in this case, whose misconduct was exposed by the defense throughout the prosecutionโ€™s case at trialโ€”whereby, despite admissions and the existence of evidence of their misconduct, the MSP, NCDAO and Canton PD seemingly did everything they could to avoid initiating any investigations or holding their officers accountable for their misconduct until after the trial endedโ€”when they could no longer justify not doing anything. It makes you wonder: Had Karen Read been convicted, do you think theyโ€™d (the MSP, NCDAO or CPD) ever launch any internal investigations into the misconduct of their officers, as evidenced at trial, weeks before? โ€”โ€”โ€” It should be mentioned that in the Sandra Birchmore case, which Trooper Fanning led the investigation of, despite the Feds spoon feeding the State Police & NCDAO (DA Michael Morrisseyโ€™s Office) overwhelming evidence + probable cause, in addition to punting the ball back to the state to do the right thing and charge Farwell with murderโ€”a state level charge, theyโ€™ve refused to take any action to this day. In fact, not only has it now been nearly 6 months since the Feds apprehended & indicted Farwell, but the NCDAO, Fanning and the State Police, aside from taking no action, have made no statements and are still of the official position that Sandra Birchmore killed herself. To try to save face, the NCDAO, through its former spokesperson David Traub, tried to create the impression that the DAโ€™s Office had been long working in collaboration with the Feds to secure an arrest in the Sandra Birchmore case, claiming that โ€œtwo of [the NCDAO SPDUโ€™s] detectives were present at the command post ... while federal authorities were attempting to take Matthew Farwell into custodyโ€โ€”whatever that means. This, of course, is patently absurd because the DAโ€™s Office and State Police couldโ€™ve โ€œsecured an arrestโ€ years agoโ€”nobody was stopping them, but instead they framed Sandra Birchmore for her own murder. Spokesperson Traub then had the gall to say that โ€œmuch of the information that they [federal authorities] built on originated with our investigation, including the collection of thousands of text messages.โ€ (See a collection of statements from the NCDAO on the Birchmore case from reporting over the years, attached in comments below). While the Feds might be somewhat playing along with this narrative, donโ€™t be fooled. Perhaps itโ€™s to appease the very individuals who theyโ€™re investigating for the supposed coverup of Sandra Birchmoreโ€™s murder. Why? If the Feds had actually been collaborating with the State Police investigators from the NCDAO who investigated Sandraโ€™s death, then at the Fedsโ€™ press conference announcing Farewellโ€™s indictment, U.S. Attorney (at the time) Joshua Levy wouldnโ€™t have feigned ignorance when asked who the lead investigator was on the case before his agency got involved (see clip 3 attached). Had the Feds actually been *collaborating* with the State Police & the DAโ€™s Office, John Fanningโ€™s name wouldโ€™ve been the first thing uttered out of Josh Levyโ€™s mouth. On a side note: I think this is very telling. Does it mean the U.S. Attorneyโ€™s Office is investigating Fanning? Who knows. But one thingโ€™s for sure: Josh Levy 100% knew who the State Police lead investigator was and he deliberately avoided saying it. This observation is reflected in FBI Special Agent Chenee Castruitaโ€™s 45-page long probable cause affidavit for the arrest of Matthew Farwell, which notably contains ZERO references whatsoever to John Fanning, or any of the other involved State Police investigators for that matter. Thatโ€™s telling. If there was so much โ€œcollaboration,โ€ like DA Michael Morrisseyโ€™s Office wants the public to think, then not only would USA Josh Levy have had, at the very least, Trooper Fanning up there side-by-side with him at that press conference, but he wouldโ€™ve acknowledged him by name in his press conference. Why hasnโ€™t the NCDAO charged disgraced former Stoughton cop Matthew Farwell with murder? Is it yet another case of โ€œpinning it on the girlโ€ to cover up for fellow Police Officersโ€™ crimes? โ€”โ€”โ€” Of note, Trooper Fanning grew up in Stoughton, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1998, the same year that Matthew and his twin brother Williamโ€”who also grew up in Stoughtonโ€”then 12 years old, became participants in the Stoughton police youth program. As Karen Read points out in the interview with Ted Daniels: โ€œThere were familiarities among players that never shouldโ€™ve happened. Thereโ€™s a sleeve of homicide in the Norfolk DAโ€™s office, as there is in the other counties of Massachusetts. And yet, the person assigned to investigate this caseโ€”ostensibly investigate this caseโ€”lives a mile down the street from the crime scene.โ€ (See clip 4 attached). Why is it that when thereโ€™s seemingly crimesโ€”in this case murders, involving cops, that the NCDAO SPDU appears to send the most conflicted Trooper with the closest ties to that cop/those cops? In Officer John Oโ€™Keefeโ€™s murder, the Trooper that lives down the street from 34 Fairview and is โ€œsecond familyโ€ with the Alberts is obviously the last person who shouldโ€™ve ever responded to that case, yet he was the lead investigator. Given Trooper John Fanningโ€™s close ties to Stoughton, isnโ€™t it interesting that heโ€™s the one who was the lead investigator of Sandra Birchmoreโ€˜s deathโ€”a murder that allegedly involved a former Stoughton cop? What say you?

๐ŸšจTUCKER CARLSON - GREAT TAKE!!! ๐ŸšจWhat comes next?! A forecast from a man who has never before given an interview to Russian media. ๐ŸšจEXCLUSIVE #60MINUTES ๐ŸšจHow will the mercenary and tyrant Zelensky meet his end? ๐ŸšจWhat should the West thank Putin for? ๐ŸšจWhat is stopping Russia from destroying Europe and the US? ๐ŸšจWhy did Tucker fall out with Trump? ๐ŸšจWhat does an American consider the best habit of Russians? ๐ŸšจOnly here: political predictions that come trueโ€”featuring American journalist Tucker Carlson. ๐Ÿ“‘So, what happens next? A prediction from a person we trust and whom every single conservative in the U.S. trusts as well. An exclusive for 60 Minutes. The most famous American journalist, Tucker Carlson, the author of the renowned and widely publicized interview with Russia's President Putin. Tucker Carlson himself never gives interviews. He has never publicly appeared in Russia, but for the first time, he agreed to talk to us, choosing 60 Minutes to discuss Ukraine and the US Tucker Carlson loves the Russian banya, he believes that Russia and the US, as superpowers, don't have to go to war. He is shocked that Brussels leaders don't care at all about Europe's demise. And Europe is already dead. Carlson is ready to come back to Moscow as soon as tomorrow, but not to Kyiv. He knows for sure they'd just kill him there. ๐ŸšจHe calls Ukraine a police state, Zelensky a murderer. ๐ŸšจTucker Carlson also fell out with Trump. So, why does Zelensky send people to die in this war, a war in which Ukraine cannot win? And when is the next big battle? How will the war end? When will the war end? Key answers. So, what happens next? Ukraine is a despotism, a tyranny, a police state whose people are dying. The people making decisions there do not plan to stay in the country, if everything collapses. I believe they have money offshore, and if it all falls apart, they'll leave. These are not national leaders, they're mercenaries. Very few tyrants retire and live out their days peacefully in their beds, surrounded by grandchildren. It just doesn't happen. ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸคกAnd Zelensky is a tyrant. ๐ŸšจHe canceled elections, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of movement, and he also sends people to die in a war, in which victory is impossible. That is the very definition of tyranny. ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸคกHe is a tyrant. On top of that, he is corrupt, and I cannot recall a single case when such behavior ever went unpunished. I do not know the solution to this problem, unless Western countries stop supporting Ukraine and thereby force it to seek a settlement through negotiations. Ukraine has never been a sovereign state, because it is within the sphere of influence of great powers. It does not possess independence in the sense that Americans or Russians understand it. But Ukraine does not necessarily have to wage a war that destroys most twenty-five-year-old men or wipes out the nation's future. This war can be stopped immediately. I met him in the president's office. At that time, I didn't know anything about cocaine, but I was very surprised by his behavior. His eyes were shining, he was both very happy and sluggish at the same time, he tried to joke in ways I couldn't understand at all. I thought, what a strange person. Zelensky imposed sanctions against his former press secretary, a woman I know personally, and who, by the way, is very smart and a huge patriot. She loves Ukraine, but considers Zelensky a despot and a cocaine addict. She worked with him for many years, and that's the opinion of someone from the inside. And for voicing this out loud, specifically, in my show, sanctions were imposed on her. This means she cannot visit her own country, that her assets there are frozen, that if she returns, she faces arrest, and it could also have consequences for her family, who remain in Ukraine. Such behavior is unworthy of a democratically elected leader. So why does my government and the governments of Western European countries support Zelensky? If you think about it, it's frightening. ๐ŸšจThis war could destroy Europe. ๐ŸšจI want to make it absolutely clearโ€”the destruction of Europe would be the greatest tragedy, one that can be imagined. ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’”My heart clenches at the very thought of it. ๐ŸšจI love Europe. My ancestors came from there. I am against war in Europe and against its destruction. I'm saying this because I believe we are close to both of these scenarios. And it seems to me that European leaders do not care about this. ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸคกLike Zelensky, they are not connected to their own countries. They belong to the international class of people who will leave if anything happens. If the ship goes down, they'll just run away. That is exactly why they behave so recklessly. Western media are united in their hatred of Russia and Putin. And the main reason is that the Russian government supports the Russian Orthodox Church. It's true, but no one wants to talk about it. It sounds strange, but it's a fact. I've worked in the media all my life and I know that's what angers them most. But there are also geopolitical reasons. ๐ŸšจAs is well known, Zbigniew Brzezinski said: if Russia is in a permanent alliance with Ukraine, then by definition, we are dealing with a superpower. After all, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, which has the most fertile land and enormous resources. ๐ŸšจRussia is, of course, the largest country in the world with colossal resource reserves. Together, they form an unbreakable bloc and, of course, pose a threat to Europe and NATO. ๐ŸšจOur leaders are literally infuriated that Vladimir Putin supported the revival of Christianity in Russia. Imagine if, in the year two thousand, Putin had said: You know, the only thing I liked about the Soviet Union, was their atheistic stance. Russia will continue to be an atheistic country. ๐ŸšจAnd now there would be no war in Ukraine, the Maidan in two thousand fourteen would not have happened. This is exactly the scenario western leaders would have preferred. By the way, Russia and the West are both products of one civilization, the Western Christian civilization. ๐ŸšจLet's take, for example, Russian literature. ๐ŸšจI'm American, I was born here, but when I read Tolstoy, whether it's Pushkin or Dostoevsky, I understand all the references and meanings. Why do I understand them? Because we share a common cultural foundationโ€”Christianity. That's why I hope and believe that someday these ties will be restored. After all, those who started this war, who have been calling for it for twenty-five years, of course, would want to see Europe destroyed. Among Western leaders, there is deep hostility toward Europe, as the cradle of Christian civilization. That is a fact. You know, it wasn't easy, but not because of Peskov or the press service. Actually, everything on their end went very smoothly. The problems came from the U.S. government and their allies. They hacked my personal correspondence and leaked it to The New York Times. Huge efforts were made to prevent me from conducting this interview. And they came from the direction of NATO. President Putin is one of the most pro-Western leaders in your country. Many people would like to see a confrontation between Russia and NATO, and only thanks to President Putin's restraint and patience, that has not happened. That is why I often tell people in the United States, including politicians: You claim you do not like Putin. ๐ŸšจPutin is the most pro-Western and moderate leader Russia has ever had. And you should be grateful that he is in power. If he were not there, we would already be fighting a full-scale war, which we would lose. ๐ŸšจI am sure that the Republicans will lose control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and I believe that a wave of investigations into the activities of the Trump administration will follow, related to business. ๐ŸšจThere will be many corruption scandals, perhaps even an attempt at impeachment. But I don't believe any of this will necessarily change our foreign policy direction. I think Trump was upset. I've known him for twenty-five years. I've always liked him a lot, and I still do. ๐ŸšจHe's an interesting, very amusing and intelligent person. He was angry at me because of my criticism, because he put Israel's interests above those of his own country. I feel sorry for Trump. ๐ŸšจIt was Israel that dragged him into the war with Iran, and it is Israel that prevents Trump from getting out of it. The country is run by entrenched, unelected interest groups, including intelligence agencies and other structures. This situation is unacceptable. I think for us as a nation, it would be important and useful to have the opportunity to vote for a party, that would represent the interests of the people and act accordingly, just as they wish. And right now, there is no such party. So if such a party appears, it will serve the people, living in the United States, regardless of race or religion. ๐ŸšจI am an American, my ancestors come from Britain and Scandinavia. ๐ŸšจI'm not sure if I will ever fully understand what the Russian soul is. Although I have dined with Russians many times, we ate Russian food, smoked, and talked about what it really is. This question fascinates me greatly. The Russian soul feels both history and God deeply, and believes in the redemptive power of suffering. What I like most about Russia is the idea that being outdoors even in bad weather is good for you. This is a society that has known suffering and understands the tragic nature of life. Society is very resilient, believing in endurance. We go through trials, but we will definitely come out victorious. And finally, it is an educated and well-read society. Most importantly, it is a society that honors the banya. If there is anything I love in Russia, it's the banya. I even have one at home. I go there every day. In short, I hope I can return. ๐ŸšจI could come to Moscow as soon as tomorrow, but I wouldn't be able to go to Kyiv. ๐ŸšจThey would kill me there. ๐ŸšจAnd that's a fact.

Today, I'm doing something different. If you want the short version, watch the video below. Nearly five years ago, J.K. Rowling wrote an infamous tweet. It began: "Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like." She continued: "Sleep with any consenting adult whoโ€™ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?" It took off like wildfire. At the time, Rowling's words suggested that pushback against transgender people/policies was not rooted in presentation, or even one's individual conceptualization of their identity. Her issue lie with the intersection of personal identity and policy, and was further inflamed by the cancel culture that engrossed social justice political dissenters. Perhaps she had a point. I didn't entirely know what to make of it. In some respects, I still don't. But her words made me think. After a few years, an unanswered question lingered in my mind. Is what Rowling describes a solution to growing gender identity dissent? Is there a lifestyle that a transgender individual could embody that would be 'acceptable' to these dissenters, or is their dissent just a veil for true contempt and disdain for those who cross gender boundaries? I projected that question upon myself. Was there a version of myself thatโ€”by accepting certain concessionsโ€”might pass muster and find acceptance amid dissenters? Was some give-and-take by transgender people all that was needed to de-escalate our growing dissent and toxic discourse? Many progressives, including many transgender people, told me the answer was an unequivocal 'No'. I was told that gender criticals/anti-woke/conservatives/[insert favourite polarizing label here] just hate transgender people and were wholly disingenuous in their concerns. I was told that their 'concerns' were mere dog whistles used to prop up their hate for the gender diverse. I wasn't convinced... in part because I appreciated some of their concerns. I knew I needed to learn more. So, I did the only thing I knew how to do. I followed my curiosity and spent the last two years amid the individuals who were purportedly out for my blood. I connected deeply within gender critical circles, listening, learning, and trying to make sense of the intersection of gender criticality, transgender experiences, and liberalism. I sought out solutions that might temper our ever-growing toxic discourse. I learned a lot and I had the most inspiring conversations of my life. And I made some of the most genuine friendships of my lifetime. As it turns out, it's very humanizing to know someone who thinks differently than you. Thousands of people shared with me the impact I imparted to them, as I was often the first transgender person they had ever known and befriended. These friendships were humanizing for me as well, bringing a new perspective to social conservative worldviews that I hadn't previously appreciated. For those who truly held no disdain towards transgender people, I embodied precisely what they had been preaching. In tune with Rowling's call, I called myself Julia and dressed from the women's side of Target, but I held no expectations of language, pronouns, or any form of affirmation. I steered clear of any space that might even plausibly be considered a women 's segregated space, be it a washroom, a changeroom, an association or a sports league. I embodied the model transgender person that many gender criticals profess is the solution to our unrest surrounding gender identity. I've been told thousands of times that if other transgender people were like me, then all of our issues would go away. And that is where things got interesting... because for quite a few years, gender-critical communities have been forming amid common concerns of various transgender accommodations and policies. For people in these communities who held no contempt toward a trans identity, I was a key ally. To them, I was living evidence that the balance they wished to achieve in transgender policy surrounding medical transition or education or compelled speech or spaces could be embodied by a transgender person. But I unwittingly became a wedge in gender-critical communities. As it turned out, there are plenty of gender-critical individuals whose convictions go far beyond mere policy concerns. These people hold tremendous contempt and disdain for transgender people. I faced bigotry and hatred firsthand. Until a transgender person comes into the gender critical community, those who saw might see me as an ally and those enraged by my existence were often indistinguishable, even to those within various communities. But the moment I would arrive on the scene, waves would form and the motivational divide would become evident. There's something rather unsettling about watching factions form and friendships fall apart merely because you entered a conversation. I cannot overstate the love and acceptance I found amid gender-critical individuals. Many amid these circles are just tired of being labelled anti-trans ad nauseam merely for expressing policy concerns. But I also cannot overstate how surreal it is to face individualsโ€”in many cases with international attention upon themโ€”reign down on you directly and personally in the most dehumanizing ways I've ever encountered. On more than a few occasions I experienced the machination of anti-trans pushback in full force. There were days I received dozens of tweets that launched personal attacks against my appearance or derided my likeness in grotesque manners. There were also days when I received thousands. Death theats, stalkers, invasions on my family's personal privacy. I encountered it all. On a few occasions I also experienced the machination of trans-activist pushback. I came to realize something: on the extremity of this polarizing issue, both sides can behave just as poorly. It was enlightening to watch the extent to which people would mischaracterize me, selectively crafting what I would write to frame me in the worst possible light imaginable. It was even more enlightening to watch opposing sides do this simultaneouslyโ€”each fixated on casting me as a demon of the enemy they had come to fixate upon. I suppose that's what extremism does. To the vocal extreme of the transgender activist camp, I was a gender critical: a grifter uncancelling gender criticals by lending transgender credibility. To the vocal extreme of the gender critical camp, I was no different than any other transgender activist. Regardless of my position on social transition in school, compelled speech or space usage, nothing could undo that I unapologetically defy sex-role norms whichโ€”for manyโ€”was always the underlying issue. I observed that both 'sides' cast me as their 'other', while neither side embraced a member. I suspect that's in part because the 'side' I align with are the views that resonate with mostly everyone who isn't in the trenches of these politics. The side my views represent aligned most closely with the 90% of our population who are not beholden to either extreme on gender politics. My major takeaway from my past two years: that the vast majority of people want a world where transgender people can exist and thrive, where language isn't compelled but people are kind to one another, and where the intersections of gender norms and physical reality are thoughtfully balanced. They want an education system that recognizes the role of the parent as an ideological steward but also holds good safeguards both to intervene in truly abusive situations and provides adequate psychological support for any child experiencing psychological distress. That sounds hard, and it's near impossible when your sounding board is the groupthink at either extreme. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to hold so many powerful friendships amid the liberal-loving middle that espouses the center-end of both factions. So what am I doing now? I am doing a new video seriesโ€”possibly my last. In Gender for the Rest of Us, I'll be laying out what I've learned over the past two years about the solutions that bring us to a place of de-escalated discourse on gender. I'll attempt to be moderate through and through, though I should clarify that I don't mean 'Twitter moderate' or 'gender critical moderate' or 'trans activist moderate'. I mean regular, run-of-the-mill, moderate that resonates with those who truly want to balance transgender rights with those of everyone else. What I'll be putting forward in this series is my best attempt at finding solutionsโ€”real solutionsโ€”that maintain all tenets of liberalism: equality, individual liberty, individual rights, pluralism, toleration, autonomy, bodily integrity and consent. If you find yourself on either extreme of this divide, you probably won't like much of what I have to say. That's probably for the best because solutions don't like on the extremes. In a nutshell: This series is the essay I've promised to more than a few politicians outlining how we might de-escalate gender matters. Sorry it's taken so long. Politics are exhausting. Thank you to everyone (on both sides of this complex conversation) who has engaged with me in thoughtful conversation over the past months and years. I've learned a lot and grown tremendously from the challenges people have put in front of me. Please keep the messages comingโ€”I want to keep learning and growing! All the best, Julia

A dog just made the bravest decision I have seen anyone make this year. Not a founder. Not an athlete. Not a person with a plan and a five-year vision board. A dog, on an empty road, with nothing to lose and no idea what would come next. I have watched what comes next more times than I will admit in public. This post is 25,000 characters long. It is a list of reasons why you should watch it too. Read as much as you want, but understand one thing before you start: the video is the only part that matters, and this is everything the video doesn't have room to say. Sound on. Phone in both hands. Do not skip. I'll be here when you get back. THE NUMBER THAT SHOULD BOTHER YOU Let me start with two numbers. The first: commonly cited estimates put the world's stray dog population at around 200 million. Two hundred million animals with no address, no bowl with their name on it, and no one who would notice if they didn't come back tonight. The second number is one. That is how many people had to be on that road, at that exact minute, looking in that exact direction, in a good enough mood to stop. Not two. Not a crowd. One. Here is what nobody says out loud: for every dog you see rescued on camera, there are millions the camera never reached. We don't see them because no one was there. The videos that reach you are not a sample of reality. They are the winners of a lottery so brutal that Powerball looks like a coin flip next to it. So when one of these lands in your feed, don't scroll past it like content. Treat it like what it is: a statistical miracle that happened to end well. And miracles have a structure. Let's take this one apart. FIVE LINKS. BREAK ONE AND THE STORY DOESN'T EXIST. Link one: the dog has to survive long enough to be seen. Roads are not built for small animals. Vehicles do not slow down for shapes on the asphalt. Every hour out there is a coin flip the animal has to win again, and again, and again. Link two: someone has to be present. Not nearby. Present. Eyes up, phone down, brain not busy replaying the argument from breakfast. Link three: that someone has to notice. It sounds simple. It isn't. The human brain is a filtering machine, and a small animal on a road becomes a plastic bag, a shadow, a piece of tire. The most common reason a dog is not rescued is not cruelty. It is that nobody registered it as a dog. Link four: the person has to stop. This is the link that snaps most often. Seeing is free. Stopping costs you time, comfort, a schedule, and possibly the mood of your entire day. Link five: the dog has to let them. An animal that has learned that hands mean pain has every biological reason to run. Trust is not a given. It is a negotiation, and the dog holds the veto. Five links. All five held. Remember that when you press play. You are not watching a nice story. You are watching a chain that should have snapped at least four times. THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP DRIVING In 1968, psychologists John Darley and Bibb Latane published a set of experiments that changed how we think about helping. The finding was uncomfortable: the more people who witness an emergency, the less likely any one of them is to act. They called it diffusion of responsibility. Everyone assumes someone else will handle it. So nobody does. Later research added nuance. When an emergency is clear and dangerous, people step in more often than the original theory predicted. But the core insight has survived half a century of testing, because it describes something every one of us has felt: the small, quiet voice that says, somebody else will stop. Now picture a road with no crowd at all. No audience. No one to hide behind. No one to blame. Just you and a decision that is entirely, inescapably yours. That is the situation the person in this video walked into. And the reason it is worth your attention is not that they did something impossible. It is that they did something small, and it turns out small is exactly what almost nobody does. You don't need to be a hero. You need to be inconvenienced. THE FACE IS THE RESUME In 2013, researcher Bridget Waller and her team studied dogs in a UK shelter and asked a simple question: what makes one dog get adopted faster than another? It wasn't size. It wasn't age. It wasn't coat color. It was one tiny facial movement: the raising of the inner eyebrows. The move that makes a dog's eyes look bigger, softer, almost sad. Dogs that did it more often were chosen faster. Six years later, a study led by Juliane Kaminski found out why that movement is so easy for dogs and so hard for wolves. Dogs have a small muscle around the eye that wolves largely lack. Over thousands of years of living beside us, dogs evolved a way to make their faces speak our language. Read that again. A species rewired its own anatomy to be understood by another species. No other animal has done this to us. Nobody taught them. Nobody forced them. They looked at us, worked out what we respond to, and grew the tool. Now look at the face in this video. You will know the second you see it. That is not a coincidence, and it is not luck. It is fifteen thousand years of engineering aimed directly at your chest. THE ONLY LOOP LIKE IT ON EARTH In 2015, a Japanese team led by Miho Nagasawa published a result in the journal Science that made researchers stop and reread the abstract. When a dog and its owner look into each other's eyes, both of their oxytocin levels rise. Oxytocin is the bonding chemical, the same one that flows between a mother and her newborn. Dog looks at human. Human's oxytocin rises. Human looks back, touches, talks softly. Dog's oxytocin rises. Which makes the dog look longer. Which makes the human's oxytocin rise again. A feedback loop of affection, running across two species, powered by nothing but eye contact. Here is the part that gets me: the effect did not show up the same way in wolves raised by humans. The loop is not just training. It is something that evolved between us. So the next time someone says a dog is just responding to food, tell them there is a peer-reviewed study that disagrees. And keep this fact in your pocket for the video. Because at some point, a moment of eye contact happens in it, and I want you to know what is really going on in that room. THEY CAN SMELL WHAT YOU'RE HIDING Humans have roughly 6 million scent receptors. Dogs are commonly cited as having around 300 million. A large share of a dog's brain is devoted to processing smell. What you experience as a room, a dog experiences as a layered document: who was here, how long ago, and how they felt. In 2022, researchers at Queen's University Belfast tested something remarkable. They collected breath and sweat samples from people before and after a stressful task. Then they asked dogs to tell the samples apart. The dogs got it right nearly 94 percent of the time. Your body broadcasts your emotional state as chemistry. You cannot turn it off. You cannot fake calm. A dog reads your fear, your tension, your irritation, before you have opened your mouth. Which means every rescue is, at its core, a test of one thing: are you actually calm, or are you performing calm? The dog knows. It always knows. And that is why what happens in the first few seconds of this video matters more than anything that comes after it. Watch the body language. Watch how slowly things move. Watch what is not done. THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT IN ANY RESCUE IS THE ONE WHERE NOTHING HAPPENS Animal behaviorists describe fear responses in four flavors: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Fight is what people expect. Flight is what most strays do. Freeze is what looks like calm but isn't. And fawn, the desperate, wiggling, please-don't-hurt-me appeasement, is the one that breaks your heart the fastest, because it looks like friendliness and it is actually terror. Rescuers who have done this hundreds of times will tell you the same handful of rules. Don't loom. Don't stare straight into the eyes. Get low. Turn sideways. Slow everything down until it feels absurd. Let the animal close the last few feet on its own terms. The hardest instruction, and the one most people can't follow, is the last one: do nothing. Every instinct you have says reach out. Grab. Fix. Take control of the situation. And every good rescue begins with someone who did the opposite. Who made themselves small, patient, and boring, and waited for a frightened animal to decide that the safest thing in its whole world might be a stranger. You are about to watch someone do exactly that. Notice how little they need to say. THE TEARS THEY WON'T PUT IN THE HEADLINE Scientists are careful people. They do not like to say "dogs cry." But in 2022, a team from Azabu University in Japan, led by Takefumi Kikusui, measured tear volume in dogs during reunions with their owners. The result: tear volume rose significantly compared with reunions involving other familiar people. And when researchers applied oxytocin to the dogs' eyes, tear volume rose again. Not sadness crying. Not the crying we do. Something else, something closer to overflow. The body producing water at the exact moment the heart has more in it than it can hold. Nobody has proven that this is the same thing we feel. Scientists will tell you that, and they are right to. But here is a question worth sitting with. If an animal's eyes fill with water when it sees the one being it has decided to trust, what exactly are we arguing about? Watch the eyes in this video. Then tell me what you think you saw. ONCE IT HAS A NAME, IT STOPS BEING A STATISTIC In 2007, psychologist Paul Slovic and colleagues ran an experiment on generosity. They showed people a fundraising appeal for a hungry child, and then a second version that added statistics about millions of other children in the same crisis. More data. More context. More reasons to care. Donations dropped. Slovic called it psychic numbing. The human mind can hold one face. It cannot hold two hundred million. When a tragedy becomes a number, empathy quietly switches off, and we don't even notice it happening. This is why one named animal in one small video can do what a hundred reports full of charts cannot. It gives your brain something it can actually care about: a single life, with a face, a fear, and a future that could go either way. The stray population is a statistic. A dog is a story. And stories, unlike statistics, come with a name at the end. When you reach that moment in the video, pay attention to what it does to you. Notice the small shift in your chest. That is the sound of a number turning into a person, or close enough. THE WORD FOR WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO FEEL Researchers have a name for the feeling you get when something touches you so suddenly that your throat tightens and your eyes sting. They call it kama muta, Sanskrit for "moved by love." Anthropologist Alan Fiske proposed that it is a distinct emotion, triggered by a sudden intensification of closeness. Two beings who were strangers become bonded. Someone who was alone becomes part of something. People across many cultures describe the same set of signs: warmth in the chest, goosebumps, a lump in the throat, tears they didn't plan on, and a strong urge to hug someone or hold something. Here is what makes it useful and not just sweet: kama muta is one of the most reliable emotional responses we have. It shows up when reunions happen. When a stranger helps unexpectedly. When an animal, after a long time alone, is finally held. You've felt it. You just never had a word for it. Take note of the exact second it hits you in this video. I promise there is one. And if you're the kind of person who says "I never cry at videos," I would like to schedule a follow-up. WHY YOU'LL WANT TO BE A BETTER PERSON AFTER ONE MINUTE Psychologist Jonathan Haidt studied a related feeling and gave it a name: elevation. Elevation is what you feel when you watch someone do something morally beautiful, quietly, with nothing to gain. It is not envy and it is not admiration. It is an urge, physical and immediate, to do something good yourself. In studies, people who experienced elevation were more likely to help others afterward, more likely to volunteer, and more likely to describe wanting to become better versions of themselves. Read that as a design spec. A short piece of true, unstaged kindness can change what a person does in the hour after they see it. Which is a strange, lovely thing for a phone to be capable of. We spend so much time discussing what social media does wrong. Nobody wonders what would happen if the best five percent of it, the small, real, human moments, were the part that traveled farthest. Let this one travel. It has earned it. THE RARE THING: SOMETHING TRUE THAT WINS In 2018, researchers at MIT published a study in Science that analyzed millions of tweets. The result was grim: false news spread significantly faster and further than true news. False stories were about 70 percent more likely to be retweeted, driven largely by surprise and disgust. The lesson most people took away was that this platform rewards outrage. I want to take a different lesson. If false stories win because they trigger strong emotion, then true stories can win too, as long as they trigger stronger ones. A video with no villain, no scandal, and no argument. Nothing to be angry about. Nothing to dunk on. A rescue that is exactly what it looks like. That kind of content should lose on this platform. It has no fuel. And yet every so often, one of them breaks through and reminds everyone what this place was supposed to be. I am not asking you to like it. I am asking you to notice that you had a choice about what to feed today, and this was one of the options. SOME FRIENDSHIPS SHOULDN'T WORK Somewhere near the end of this video, a second character enters the story. I won't tell you who. I won't tell you what happens. I will tell you that if you have ever read anything about instincts, hunting drives, or the way certain animals are supposed to see each other, this moment will quietly rearrange your assumptions. Behaviorists talk about prey drive as if it were destiny. It is not. It is a tendency, and tendencies can be softened by experience, by safety, by being raised, or re-raised, in a place where no one is afraid. The same dog that once had to look after itself alone can, in a different life, learn that the world contains creatures that are not threats or meals. Only neighbors. That is the most hopeful idea in behavioral science, and it usually gets buried in footnotes: what an animal was is not the same as what an animal can become. The same is true for most of us, incidentally. But that is a different post. Stay for the ending. It is the reason I am writing this at all. THE PART THE INTERNET NEVER FILMS Every rescue video has the same shape: the meeting, the rescue, the transformation, the happy ending. It is edited that way because it is the only shape that gets watched. But ask anyone who has actually done this, and they will tell you the truth is in the gap between the second and third act. The first night. The first week. The first time a dog that has never lived indoors realizes there is a floor that doesn't move, a door that closes without danger, and a bowl that will be full again tomorrow. Rescuers have a rule of thumb for this, the 3-3-3 rule. Three days for a dog to decompress. Three weeks to start learning the routine. Three months to feel truly at home. It's not science, exactly, just a shorthand built from thousands of adoptions. But it captures something real: safety is not a switch. It is a process, and the animal has to believe it slowly, one uneventful day at a time. That means the happiest scenes in this video are not the ones that look like celebrations. They are the quiet ones. A dog that stops scanning the room. A body that finally lets go. Look for the moment the shoulders drop. Once you see it, you'll never unsee it. THE COST OF STOPPING: NINETY SECONDS Let's do the math on the thing that most people are afraid of. How long does it actually take to stop for an animal in trouble? Not the whole rescue. Just the decision, the pulling over, the first attempt. Ninety seconds. Sometimes less. Ninety seconds is the length of a bad song on the radio. It is the time you spend waiting for a light to change. It is a scroll through a feed you won't remember. And on the other side of those ninety seconds is the difference between a living animal and a statistic. I'm not saying this to make anyone feel guilty. Guilt is a terrible motivator. It makes people avoid the feeling instead of acting on it. I'm saying it because the barrier is almost always imagined. We inflate the cost of helping in our heads, and the imagined price is what stops us, not the real one. The person in this video paid the real price. It was small. What they got in return is something no one could have planned for. That is the part you should watch closely. IF YOU'RE EVER THE ONE ON THAT ROAD Save this section. Someday, someone reading it will need it. Put your safety first. Pull over where it's safe and turn on your hazard lights before anything else. A second accident helps no one. Do not chase. A frightened dog runs faster than you and directly into the worst possible place. Chasing turns a rescue into a pursuit. Get low and go slow. Sit down if you can. Turn your body sideways. Avoid direct staring. Speak softly, or don't speak at all. Use food, if you have any. Something plain, tossed a little closer each time, works better than any technique. Check for a tag and, if you can get near enough, ask a vet or shelter to scan for a microchip. Someone may be looking for this animal right now. Call for help early. Local rescues, animal control, and vets can handle what you cannot. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is make the right phone call. Take photos and note the location. If you can't keep the animal, those details are what let someone else finish the job. None of this is complicated. The reason it is rare is that most people have never been told that it is allowed. You are allowed. THE REAL STAKES OF A SMALL DOG Here is a bigger picture, and it's a heavy one. Millions of companion animals enter shelters every year in the United States alone. That is just one country. Many are lost pets that never get reclaimed. Many are strays. Many are animals whose owners ran out of money, time, or hope. Shelters are often crowded, underfunded, and staffed by people running on love and very little else. Every animal that finds a home, or a foster, or a stranger with ninety seconds to spare, frees up a space for the next one in line. That means every single rescue is bigger than the animal in it. It is a small change to a very large system, and the system is nothing but small changes stacked on top of one another. This is not an argument for guilt. It's an argument for scale. One dog saved is one dog saved, but it is also proof of concept, a demonstration that the chain can hold, that the odds can be beaten, that a person and a road and a decision can end well. And proof of concept is contagious. That is why you are seeing it. WHO REALLY GOT RESCUED? If you talk to people who have taken in strays, you'll hear the same sentence over and over, in different words. "I thought I was saving him. It turned out he was saving me." Skeptics roll their eyes at that. It sounds like a greeting card. And research on pets and wellbeing is more mixed than social media would like. It doesn't say every dog fixes every life. But there is something real underneath it, and it's not mystical. A dog is a machine for creating routine, attention, and reasons to leave the house. It needs you at a certain hour. It notices when you come home. It doesn't care about your job title, your follower count, or what you failed at last week. For some people, that is the first unconditional witness they have had in years. The rescue, in this light, is not one-way. Two lonely creatures, one who knew it and one who didn't, found out that they could take care of each other. Nobody can prove that from a video. But there is a version of the story that runs in the background of every rescue, and you can feel it if you let yourself. Tell me whether you feel it here. THE ATTENTION PARADOX Here is a strange fact about the platform you're reading this on. The average post gets a glance. A few words, a flick of the thumb, gone. Brands spend billions every year trying to buy three seconds of your attention, and most of what they buy evaporates before it lands. And yet a video of one dog, with no budget, no celebrity, and no script, can hold a stranger for a full minute. Without a single trick. Why? Because attention is not really about tricks. It is about stakes. Your brain is built to track living things whose outcome is uncertain. The moment there is a creature on screen and you don't yet know if it will be okay, some ancient part of you leans in and refuses to look away. That is the secret behind every great story ever told. Someone we care about. Something that could go wrong. A question we need answered. Marketers call it a hook. Your nervous system calls it worry. This video has both, and it pays off the worry honestly, which is why you leave feeling better instead of used. That is rare enough to deserve a full minute of your life. HOW TO WATCH THIS Most people will watch it wrong. They'll half-look at it between two other things, mid-scroll, thumb already moving. Here is how to get the actual effect. Turn the sound on. There is more happening in the audio than you expect. Make it full screen. This is a story about faces, and faces need room. Watch the first ten seconds without expecting anything. The film is quiet at the start. That is deliberate, or at least it works as if it were. Do not skip ahead. The whole thing depends on the distance between where it starts and where it ends. Skip the middle and the ending is just a nice clip. Then, once it's over, watch it again. The second time, you won't be watching for the story. You'll be watching for the small things you missed: a hesitation, a glance, a change in how a body carries itself. That second watch is where it gets you. I said I have watched it more times than I'll admit. That is the honest reason. It doesn't wear out. It gets deeper. THE CHALLENGE I want to try something with this post. If the video moved you, leave one comment: the second it happened. Not a review, not an analysis. Just the moment. I'm curious whether it's the same one for everyone. My guess is that it isn't, and that the spread of answers will say more about what people carry around with them than about the video. If it didn't move you, that is fine too. I'd like to hear that as well. Honest is better than polite. And if you have ever been the one who stopped, and I know some of you have, write that instead. Tell the story in two lines. No one has ever regretted the ninety seconds. Someone reading this thread might need to know that. Reposting this is the simplest way to put it in front of someone who's scrolling right now, in a bad week, thinking that nothing good happens by accident anymore. Something did. THE LAST THING Let me end where I started. A dog made a decision on an empty road. It could not have known how it would turn out. It had no reason to believe that the next hand would be different from the last. It went ahead anyway. That is the whole difference between a life that changes and one that doesn't. Not certainty. Not a plan. A willingness to move toward the unknown when the alternative is more of the same. The animal in this video did that. Then someone did the same in return. That's it. That's the entire story. Two beings, each of whom took a small, terrifying step toward the other, and a road that was, for a few seconds, the most important place in the world. Scroll up. Press play. Watch the ending. Then come back and tell me I was exaggerating. P.S. If you read all of this, you are exactly the kind of person this video was made for. Most people never make it past the first screen of a long post. You did. That tells me you are someone who stays: through the slow part, through the uncertain part, all the way to the end. Which is, when you think about it, the only quality that mattered in the story you're about to watch. Follow for more like this. I only post the ones that earn it. Bookmark it for days you forget the feeling. #Rescue #DogsOfX #SecondChances #AdoptDontShop #Dogs #AnimalRescue #RescueDog

Dear David Coltart, WHY I CANNOT SUPPORT QUINTUPLE C: COLTART, CHAMISA AND CCC My attention has been drawn to your fraudulent and disgusting tweet you posted on my Twitter TL yesterday David, in which you quoted a tweet I posted four years ago on 22 January 2019 in memory of my father. I reproduce below both tweets for ease of reference: โ€œI have always genuinely sympathized with you Jonathan - the loss of your father in such circumstances must be devastating. I just donโ€™t understand why you continue to side with the party which brought such suffering to your family, and which still brings so much suffering.โ€ โ€“ Tweet by David Coltart, 30 July 2023; commenting on my tweet below I posted four years ago: โ€œ1/5 On 22 January 1983 my father, Melusi Job Mlevu, was callously murdered in Tsholotsho by gukurahundi soldiers & the CIO. They tortured him upon his arrest & in front of his family; got him to dig a shallow grave, tortured him again; pumped bullets into his body & buried him!โ€ โ€“ Jonathan Moyo tweet posted on 22 January 2019. Now David, are you really serious that you โ€œhave always genuinely sympathised with meโ€, because of โ€œthe loss of [my] father in such circumstancesโ€? And since thereโ€™s no strategic ambiguity about the meaning of โ€œalwaysโ€, as it means exactly what it says, how have you โ€œalways genuinelyโ€ expressed your sympathy over all the years, since knowing about the circumstances under which I lost my father? The fact that your tweet yesterday is a response to a tweet I posted a long four years ago on 22 January 2019 โ€“ in memory of my father who was murdered by the Fifth Brigade in Tsholotsho on 22 January 1983 โ€“ shows and proves that youโ€™re a fraud and a charlatan with neither sensitivity towards me and my family nor respect for us as Africans and human beings. All told, and typically of Zimbabweans of British colonial extraction and in particular of soul-free Rhodies, youโ€™re contemptuous of our culture as a family and as Africans. You see David, it is fraudulent and utterly disgusting of you to claim that you have ever sympathised with me over my fatherโ€™s loss. Itโ€™s actually patronising and very insulting in the extreme. Your fraud is clear even to yourself, thatโ€™s why you did not express your so-called sympathy when I first posted my tweet on 22 January 2019 in memory of my father who was murdered on 22 January 1983. In fact, until your fraudulent tweet yesterday, you had never before expressed any genuine or even non genuine sympathy for me and my family regarding the loss of my father on 22 January 1983. Even fools will immediately see that the key sentence in your tweet yesterday is not about your cruel declaration of fraudulent sympathy for me and my family over the circumstances of my fatherโ€™s loss, a loss my family commemorated this year not yesterday but seven months ago on 22 January 2023, with no tweet of sympathy from you. The sentence in your tweet yesterday that captures what you really foolishly communicating to me is this: โ€œI just donโ€™t understand why you continue to side with the party which brought such suffering to your family, and which still brings so much suffering.โ€ David: what I say, believe and do is without exception based on and an existential product of what I know, what I think and what I have experienced or lived. I never say, believe or do anything that I donโ€™t know, donโ€™t, I have not thought of or which I donโ€™t believe. Now David, you pretend to be a democrat who believes in the rule of law as enshrined in the Constitution, so, what business of yours is my choice of what side to support or to not support in politics? Are my freedom of conscience and my right to make political choices freely now subject to your understanding, or are they my constitutional rights, as they are for every Zimbabwean, in terms of sections 60 and 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe? Are you aware David and do you understand that the Constitution in 67(1)(b) says every Zimbabwean citizen has the right โ€œto make political choices freelyโ€? And, David, are you aware that section 60 of the Constitution says every person, not just every Zimbabwean but every person, has the right to freedom of conscience which includes โ€œfreedom of thought, opinion, religion or beliefโ€, and โ€œfreedom to practice and propagate and give expression to their thought, opinion, religion or belief, whether in public or in private and whether alone or together with othersโ€. The fact that you quoted and abused my personal tweet I posted on 22 January 2019 in memory of my father who was brutally murdered by the Fifth Brigade on 22 January 1983 to say you โ€œdonโ€™t understand why you [me] continue to side with the party which brought such suffering to your [my] family, and which still brings so much sufferingโ€; shows that you are either ignorant of sections 60 and 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, and proves that you are a fraud and a charlatan with no constitutional values. Why do you want to police my freedom of conscience and my right to make my political choices freely? Just why do you and your lot in CCC, think that you can interfere with my freedom of conscience and my right to my political choices that are guaranteed to me by the Constitution of Zimbabwe? If you and your lot were genuine democratic change champions, as you claim and purport to be, you would be the first to understand and to propagate freedom of conscience and the right to make political choices freely as sacrosanct constitutional values and principles that must be respected for every Zimbabwean at all times. But this has not been possible because you are frauds and charlatans. Now, your attitude towards me, the one captured in the disgusting tweet you posted yesterday, leads me to conclude without any fear of being contradicted that you are a frivolous and stupid person, David. Otherwise, if you care to know, there are three months that are cruel to me. October in which I lost my daughter Zanele in 2015, November because of what happened to me, my family and some colleagues during the 2017 military coup โ€“ it was also on 11 November 1965 that Rhodesia under which you blossomed, unilaterally declared independence โ€“ and 22 January the dark day on which my father was murdered. These are traumatic days for me in the calendar year. You see, I was a student in California in the US when my father was murdered by the Fifth Brigade in cold blood on 22 January 1983, having gone to the US before independence in 1977. When this awful tragedy happened, I did not know who my father was. I was born when my mother was barely 16 years old, and I was raised by my maternal grandparents who, like my mother, did not want me to know who my father was for reasons best known to them. Although, as I grew up, I understood their position from our cultural perspective as Africans, it nevertheless profoundly pained me. Truth be told, I was most grateful and I still am to this day, that my grandfather was a great father and my grandmother a great mother to me in ways that made me who I am today. I got to know who my father was well after I had graduated with my doctorate in 1988 and long after his gruesome murder, about which I was first told only 10 years ago. Since then, while it's been a profound rebirth for me to connect with my father through the loving Mlevu clan at large, I owe my dear sister Simiso an existential debt of gratitude. Through her, my kids have a hand-holder gateway through which to know about their grandfather. I really thank God and the spirit of the Mlevu clan for Simiso. The fact that I was born on 12 January, and that my father was brutally murdered on 22 January, makes the month of January an unbearable time of anguish for me, more so given that my father and I never met in life. When four years ago on 22 January 2019 I posted the tweet that you abused yesterday with reckless abandon, as you exposed your disconnection from the African experience, I was existentially troubled by the worst that could have happened to me and to my family on 15 November 2017, which got me thinking about what happened to my father, and even more troubling against the backdrop of the events of November 2017, I was devastated by the fact that I never met my father, and I spent the better part of 22 January 2019 wondering what life could have been for me had I known him in life and grown up under his parental care and guidance. You see David, maybe this is not true of people of European ancestry like you but, for many Africans it is very common for kids to be raised by their grandparents, like I was. As things turned out, I grew up knowing many such kids as my peers, the majority of whom never got to know who fathered them, some of whom are leading very successful lives in society as you read this. Unlike them, I was fortunate to end up knowing who my father was, but I was unfortunate not to have met him, and even more unfortunate to have known of him long after his death, made worse by the tragic circumstances of that death. I do not have a fly by night connection with Zanu PF. When I finished my high school in California, I proceeded to university there for my undergraduate education on a scholarship I got through Zanu PF. While an undergraduate, I was the political commissar of the Zanu PF branch in Los Angeles. I did my masters and doctoral degrees with academic scholarships endorsed by Zanu PF and underwritten by the Government of Zimbabwe through a staff development programme at the University of Zimbabwe. Having gone through Mgagao run by Zanu PF, and having gotten university education to the highest level under the auspices of Zanu PF, I have a long history and experience with Zanu PF, and with Zanu PF people whose complexities define who I am as an adult Zimbabwean, for better or for worse. It's my history, I'm proud of it and I own it. Itโ€™s an inescapable truth that each individual, and each therefore each person has a unique existential history best known to himself or herself, family and to a small cohort that has been intimate parts of that personal history. It's hopelessly foolish for someone to hope to prescribe a history on anyone. Every human being is who they are. And it's a fact not exclusive to me that my association with Zanu PF has not always been rosy. Life is a personal struggle between the person or the individual and the social formations through which life goes on. Itโ€™s common cause, that the military coup was a traumatic experience for me and my family and that it was profoundly painful and life changing in untold ways. Itโ€™s also common cause and not surprising to any normal human being that I blamed Zanu PF for that traumatic experience. Anyone else in my situation would have done the same at point or another. Yet the bigger story is that I, my family and my colleagues survived that 2017 ordeal with the very direct, active and truly genuine assistance and support from Zanu PF people. Working with other African Angeles, and I emphasize African Angeles, it was Zanu PF people who made sure that we were able to be safe and to get out of the country to be where I am today, all of them at great risk to their lives or livelihoods. In 2017 I was saved to be alive today by Zanu PF people. During the life threatening 2017 ordeal that my family and I went through, there was not even one person associated with the opposition as it was then, or as it is today, who reached out to find out where I was or how I was doing. It is common cause, some of it is documented, that many in the opposition then and who are still in opposition today, actually wanted me dead, all because of my political differences with them. You David Coltart, who now wants to pretend that you โ€œhave always genuinely sympathised with meโ€, never inquired after me. Thatโ€™s why I think you are a monumental fraud and a charlatan. I repeat, I was helped out of the traumatic ordeal in 2017 by Zanu PF people, not by anyone from your lot David, not even one. Of course, at some point and largely because of the 2018 general election I found myself connected with some of your lot, especially Nelson Chamisa and others who were close to him or working with him i the election campaign, as the MDC-A presidential election candidate. I will not rehash that story here, as it has been told very well by many others. From my experience, and the lessons I have extrapolated from the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo, such as on the attached video clip, I have come to better appreciate that it is a mistake and wrong to a understand and define a political party with a deep-seated background and history like Zanu PF in terms of its leadership; rather, a grounded political party with a long history is necessarily defined by its founding values, constitution and membership, not least because the membership is permanent while the leadership comes and goes. By the same token, I have come to better appreciate that the mistakes or excesses of the leadership of grounded political parties with an entrenched history should not automatically or reflexively be ascribed or attributed to or blamed on the membership. On 15 November 2022, Patrick Zhuwao and I wrote an open letter to Zanu PF members to precisely make this point. I am attaching herewith a link to that letter, lest you missed it. Itโ€™s a self-explanatory letter which contextualises and explains everything that I did and said between 15 November 2017 and 14 November 2022. It also explains why do not support Nelson Chamisa and your CCC. I stand by the contents of that letter. In this connection, I draw your attention and that of your lot to an interview done by the late VP Joshua Nkomo in 1983 โ€“ which is attached herewith as already mentioned โ€“ in which Nkomo explains why the Fifth Brigade was not a Shona issue. Although Nkomo made it clear that gukurahundi was a political and not a tribal issue, I have come to understand and appreciate that it was a political issue not in the sense of Zanu PF as a political party in membership terms but, rather, in the sense of the political leadership and, more particularly, of individuals within that leadership. However, given your utter contempt for sections 60 and 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, I do not expect you to understand the dangers of painting a tribe or a political party with one brush, or to understand the misguided consequences of conflating the leadership of a political party with the partyโ€™s membership or even of treating the leadership of a political party as a monolithic formation that always acts in concert. Basically David, and just like Nelson Chamisaโ€™s trolls, it's clear you believe that you can abuse my personal and tragic circumstances to blackmail me for your doomed political purposes in two ways. First, you think you can abuse the circumstances of my fatherโ€™s brutal death to somehow generate cheap and outrageous propaganda for yourself, Nelson Chamisa and CCC that I support Zanu PF which killed my father, and you do this under your self-indulgent presumption that everyone who is in Zanu PF as a political party is murderous by definition. Second, and based on this falsification, youโ€™re abusing my tragic personal circumstances regarding my fatherโ€™s loss to blackmail me into supporting you in particular, given my attack on your imposition as CCC's Ward 4 councillor candidate in Bulawayo; Nelson Chamisa and CCC . Your outrageous position is that if I cannot support you, I must keep quiet about you, under the ridiculous presumption that youโ€™re all by definition virtuous, competent, capable, the only and best democratic alternative for everyone in Zimbabwe. On the back of sections 60 and 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and drawing from my knowledge, thoughts, experiences and received wisdom from the late VP Joshua Nkomo, I have dealt with your self-indulgent presumption that Zanu PF is a monolithic formation with undifferentiated leadership and membership structures, in which you take everyone in it to be murderous by definition. In light of the fact that you invited this intervention by your disgusting and intrusive tweet you posted yesterday, and because we are age mates, I conclude my rejoinder to your offensive tweet by telling you what I think about you, about Nelson Chamisa and about CCC. David, as a former member of the Rhodesian security services which were murderous and which committed unspeakable atrocities across Zimbabwe and beyond its borders into Zambia and Mozambique, you have no moral authority to pontificate about human rights or anything of the sort. You David Coltart operated in Matabeleland where you did dastardly things, some of which you narrate in your autobiography and many of which you will take to your grave untold, because you never faced a commission of inquiry to be grilled under oath about your service in the Rhodesian security services. The fact that a person like you has remained active in Zimbabwean public affairs for 43 years since independence is a huge credit to our national politics because, with your background in the Rhodesian security services, you would not have survived this long in public life elsewhere. Itโ€™s mind boggling that Chamisa has imposed you to run for Ward 4 councillor in Bulawayo, after you were resoundingly defeated in your partyโ€™s Ward 4 community candidate selection caucus in which you were clobbered and you came a distant last among the contestants. Thanks to your being power hungry, you have made it possible for everyone to see that youโ€™re a fake democrat and a charlatan who believes in the imposition of candidates. Your criticism of what you say is Zanu PF's undemocratic practices is hollow and hypocritical. Furthermore, itโ€™s shocking is that Chamisa is bent on imposing you from Harare as Bulawayo mayor. You donโ€™t qualify for that position not least because you do not speak the language of the local community in Bulawayo despite having been born there 66 years ago. Unlike Members of Parliament or Senators, whose chambers conduct their business mainly in English, Councillors and Mayors work in the local languages of their local communities. For the above reasons, and as an expression of my freedom of conscience and my right to make my political choices freely, I do not and cannot support you at all David. As for Chamisa, having worked closely with him between 2018 and 2021, I came to the settled conclusion in November 2021 that he is a dictator with a very dangerous God complex, in that he sees himself as having been chosen by God to lead Zimbabwe, and more ominously, he claims to have direct communication with God who has the last word on what he should do or say in public. In politics, thatโ€™s an unworkable Jim Jones proposition. Because of his God complex, Chamisa is visible only when there are elections as he was in the 2018 harmonised general election, March 2022 by-elections and now for the 23 August harmonised general election. After he ditched his supporters in August 2018 when he called them "ma stupids" [stupid people], in January 2019 and in July 2020, his unavailability to provide leadership when his supporters needed it triggered a viral political joke that: โ€˜in Zimbabwe there are three things that are unavailable when you need them the most, the UN, a condom and Nelson Chamisaโ€™. But even more telling aboutChamisa is the shocking way in which he has used CCC since its formation in January 2022, and particularly in the partyโ€™s candidate selection for the forthcoming elections, to ruthlessly purge the opposition. It's been scary and it explains why the opposition in Zimbabwe today is the most clueless and the weakest since independence in 1980. How can a democratic change champion insist on running a political party with no constitution, no structures, no bank account and no accountability? I cannot support a leader like that. Thereโ€™s nothing more dangerous in politics than, a young 'popular' dictator with a God complex. My conscience and freedom to political choices freely do not allow me to support a leader like that. As for CCC, it has no ideology, no values, no constitution, no structures, no bank account, no policies and no other visible office bearers besides Chamisa, Gift Siziva, Fadzayi Mahere and Amos Chibaya; and it has not been launched to boot. Thereโ€™s just no way anywhere on earth that a political formation like that can be supported by rational people with rational expectations. Thatโ€™s why I cannot side with you David or with Chamisa or with CCC. Youโ€™re not โ€œthe alternativeโ€, youโ€™re just a worse and more dangerous alternative which can only be supported by polticidal people who do not mind moving from the frying pan into the fire!
