Halifax Regional Police Media Release October 7, 2024 (4:30 p.m.) Police ask for public’s assistance regarding school bus safety Halifax Regional Police are asking for the public’s assistance in addressing school bus safety. It is illegal, and very dangerous, to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing. Over the next few weeks, officers will be doing targeted school bus safety enforcement. The public is invited to share the locations of bus stops where they have observed drivers passing school busses illegally. To share a location visit HRP’s Facebook page and comment on this post: Comments will be monitored and officers will be assigned to visit as many locations as possible. Failing to stop for a school bus can result in a first offence fine of $410 and six points on your license. And most importantly, it could severely impact a person’s life. HRP is responsible for policing the urban core of Halifax Regional Municipality as well as the Sambro Loop and the Purcells Cove – Herring Cove Loop.

More proof that safety is not a Metro “core value”: It’s bad enough the public does it, but no fewer than three Metrobus drivers ignored the safety of DC Fire and EMS Department firefighters and violated city traffic regulations. Each driver drove into a “block where fire apparatus has stopped in answer to a fire alarm.” They also drove over “unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any street.” This was a small fire at Connecticut & Calvert NW a short time ago. This has been the law since at least 1949. The danger to firefighters that Metro and the other drivers presented is significant. Besides possibly hitting a firefighter, the vehicles can cut off the water supply for a fire. In this case, the hose was an attack line carried in the arms of firefighters. It could have been dragged out of their hands, injuring the firefighters. Randy Clarke, your drivers should be setting examples for the rest of us if safety is, as you keep saying, a core value. They should stop until directed by police or firefighters. This can also help keep other drivers from becoming a hazard. The fact that all three bus drivers who arrived at the intersection did the same thing indicates that this is a systemic problem involving training or supervision. Government employees are being herded at five am in sub zero temperatures into vehicles at Budgam bus stand ferrying them to the PM’s rally. Disheartening to see employees being forcibly mobilised to paint a pretty picture that all is well post 2019 & that people here are celebrating their own collective disempowerment & humiliation. Stands contrary to earlier visits by previous PMs like Vajpayee ji & Dr Manmohan Singh ji at the peak of insurgency. Common people then thronged to the venues with great enthusiasm & returned with hope in their hearts. But this time Kashmiris know that everything spoken at Bakshi stadium will be to showcase the so called benefits of illegal abrogation of Article 370 akin to putting salt to their wounds. This visit is only meant to address & drum support amongst BJPs core constituency in the rest of India for the upcoming parliament elections.

I designed a logo for Jerusalem’s public transport system. At its core is a symbol that is almost 100 years old: the sign used for bus stops. It first appeared in the city in the 1930s and over time spread across the country. Eventually, this sign disappeared from the streets, replaced by standard yellow and blue route information signs. I felt it was important to bring back this simple and precise symbol, a sign that was directly associated with public transport for decades. I used it as the foundation for a new identity: not just a logo, but a visual language that can unify the entire transport system, buses, light rail, and future modes of transport. Sometimes simple forms work best for complex systems. Special thanks to the Jerusalem transport team for their trust in this project, and to Daniel Baev (Daniel Baev דניאל באייב) for his extensive archival research and contribution to the idea.
