My best guess is that the longer straw creates a larger pressurized space which creates a greater sucking effect on the fluid than the shorter straw. Similar to how longer barrel firearms tends to produce higher velocity projectiles.

The length isn’t what’s important. The height of the exit is. There’s a different pressure at different heights. The pressure differential determines speed

The same reason a long barreled rifle has more power

That doesn’t make sense. There more friction loss on the longer straw

@ArthurHovsepian @FieldMarshalPSO

Well that was unexpected.

I don't believe that experiment.

Inverse ciminery effect.

@grok The result would be different with something not water-based or no?

So this is why it sounds like I piss lake a race horse.

Good explanation for why full length exhaust headers make more power over manifolds

Pressure from distance from the top of the liquid

Do it again and pinch the same distance from the bottom of the container

now bend the straws so they run sideways

it can maintain laminar flow longer and gain more speed through the long straw

Curioso.

suction pressure.. the liquid falling in the straw will get a mechanical pull on the liquid through suction.

that's interesting
