Instead, it became ground zero for one of the largest and most expensive Afghan resettlement operations in U.S. history, and it happened with the active cooperation of both parties. ๐จ THE AFGHAN PIPELINE โ THE FACTS Since 2021, nearly 200,000 Afghans have entered the United States through emergency, parole-based programs with expedited vetting. Thousands ultimately ended up in red states. Florida was one of the top destinations: 2,000+ Afghans resettled in Florida in the first wave 1,000+ handled by Lutheran Services Florida in 2021 alone Florida refugee officials admit the state typically absorbs 5,000+ refugee/entrant arrivals every year And in South Florida: ๐จ Miami-Dade County became a key โwelcome hub.โ Under Democrat Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the county publicly embraced Afghan arrivals. In a Miami-Dade Minute video, she declared: โWe are proud to host Afghan familiesโฆ we welcome them with open armsโฆ our home is their home.โ Public reporting confirmed Miami-Dade agencies prepared to receive hundreds of Afghan refugees during the surge and CAIR-Florida was right there celebrating. ๐จ YOUR MONEY PAID FOR IT ALL Florida cashed enormous federal checks: $990.6 million in ORR funds (FY 2023) $1.2 billion in ORR funds (FY 2024) Hundreds of millions more during the 2021โ2022 surge Every Afghan arrival triggered: $2,275 in immediate federal Reception & Placement money Plus thousands more per family in housing, medical care, transportation, legal services, and cash assistance, depending on household size and program eligibility All of it was 100% taxpayer-funded. ๐จ CAIRโFLORIDA WAS INSIDE THE OPERATION CAIR-Florida is an active member of the Florida Refugee Assistance Committee (FRAC) โ the coalition created to coordinate services for arriving refugee and parolee families. Through FRAC, CAIR-Florida: Provided legal and immigration assistance Delivered cultural orientation and โknow your rightsโ coaching Coordinated with county and state officials Helped shape the long-term integration infrastructure for Afghan arrivals They didnโt need a direct mega-grant. They plugged into a billion-dollar, federally funded pipeline and gained institutional access inside Floridaโs system. ๐ฅ AND SINCE THEN CAIR HAS GONE MUCH FURTHER Beginning in late 2024, CAIR-Florida launched โAdvocacy Hubs,โ a statewide political machine explicitly designed, in CAIRโs own words, to: โEmpower Muslims to have significant impact on government decisions.โ and: โGrow the power of the Florida Muslim Caucusโฆ and be a powerful voting block [sic] for decades to come.โ The plan aims to place Advocacy Hub teams in all 28 of Floridaโs congressional districts to: Represent โa Muslim perspectiveโ at all public discussions Research legislation and candidates Lobby elected officials in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. Recruit candidates to run for office โ or run themselves Mobilize members of local mosques into a disciplined political bloc This is political infrastructure, built directly on top of Floridaโs refugee pipeline. And CAIRโs leadership openly brags that this voting bloc will shape Florida politics for decades. ๐จ THE GOP BETRAYAL While all of this was underway, Floridaโs Republican supermajority: Unanimously passed a โMuslim-American Heritage Monthโ resolution championed and celebrated by CAIR-Florida Stayed silent about the scale and cost of the Afghan influx Allowed CAIR and its network to embed deeper inside Floridaโs systems Then Florida โreturnedโ $557 million in unspent refugee-service funds, without releasing any public accounting of how the earlier surge-year refugee funds were spent, allocated, or distributed. Republican leaders talk tough about border security.
