Residents told Ethio Focus News that prior to the attack, Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) withdrew from Angerguten and handed over security control to Oromia regional forces. Before leaving, ENDF reportedly instructed residents to flee the area with their children and belongings. This sequence of events strongly suggests that the destruction of these Amhara-inhabited towns was sanctioned by top federal and Oromia Region officials.
