Before this #vibejam, I was just casually creating game prototypes for fun, but this time, the Vibejam deadline became a good forcing function that pushed me to actually finish one. While this game is more of a demo than a complete product, it gave me a taste of how challenging it is to fully complete a game. It requires brutal task prioritization, effective time management, and tons of quality assurance (QA). As many say, the last 10% is the hardest, and I’d argue it’s doubly so for games. I now have even more respect for game developers at all levels who manage to ship their games. And there you have it, my game, Gnome Mercy: Insect Invasion. It’s a Vampire Survivors-style game where you play as a gnome on a rampage, annihilating alien insects invading his garden. At the start of each run, the lord of the garden bestows a blessing if you can answer his riddle, powered by an LLM (with fallback riddles in case it fails). The objective is to fight through waves of enemies and survive as long as possible. A huge shoutout to Retro Diffusion by Astropulse for all the AI-generated sprites, artworks, icons, and more. The music was created by Not Jam, the retro chiptunes are amazing. This game is a special homage to Luca 🧄, creator of Vampire Survivors, for inventing the best game genre in recent years! And no, I don’t code at all. The code is 100% generated by @windsurf and built on PhaserJS. Game link below👇

Time to talk Electric Boda Bodas (e-mobility)? On Monday, The Daily Monitor run two articles that caught my attention (see frame 4) On their leading story, they run a piece that said that Uganda imports twice as many motorcycles (boda bodas) as cars. In their special feature, they run a very well researched story that said: “Kampala’s Air Quality Among Worst in the World”. That piece featured some of the voices of my work colleagues at Public Square. Beyond just lamenting about the quality of air we breathe, it’s important to remember that the solutions are within reach. One of those is increasing the uptake of electric boda bodas. This, we can do from the ground up. It’s easier to push consumer adoption by merely turning first adopters into a marketing force than through standing on a pedestal and preaching the virtues of embracing e-mobility from our air conditioned offices that we access by driving fuel guzzling SUVs. Some of the barriers to adoption are the misconceptions among riders about e-bikes. These range from stuff like “they are not as fast as the petrol powered bikes”, “they don’t have range”, “they aren’t as strong so can’t carry a lot of weight” etc A few weeks ago, I fortuitously got a chance to put the first misconception to the test. My regular boda guy had actually given the reason of speed or lack thereof, as his impediment to buying an e-bike so he had instead bought himself a new petrol bike. This one Kampala morning while going to an e-mobility meeting, we see an e-bike at that Jinja road roundabout. I remember our conversation so I ask him to go after the e-bike guy (safely). The e-bike guy hadn’t heard so he went on riding normally but as we got within 2 meters of him, my boda guy asked: “tumuyise?” (Read: should we overtake him?) I answered in the affirmative. The e-bike guy heard us and said: “kankulageko” (let me show you what’s up). The result is what you see in the first video. We were fortunate that the road was paved, otherwise he would have left us feeding on kilograms of dust. My boda guy has since been preaching the e-bike gospel at his stage here in Muyenga and yesterday, he told me that one of his stage colleagues is saving up to buy an e-bike. GREEN ARMY🫶 Plymouth Argyle FC 🫶 We’re at the bottom of the league…It hurts. Everyone feels down. But I know how much pressure the players are under—the pressure to win, the fear of mistakes, the responsibility to their team, their families, and this club. And the hardest part? The endless criticism that follows every defeat. When I was a teenager, I was bullied every day. It drained me-physically,mentally, emotionally. There were moments when I lost hope. But no matter how tough it got, Argyle and football were always there for me. Watching Argyle fight against the odds, Seeing the supporters stand together, singing with all their hearts, no matter the score— gave me courage. Because of Argyle, I never gave up. Because of Argyle, I kept going. That passion—we must never forget it. Players, supporters, all of us— we need to remember why we love football. No matter what happens, we stand by each other. We support each other. Mistakes? Everyone makes them. Instead of blaming, let’s lift each other up, encourage each other. And when someone does something great, even if it’s small—let’s celebrate it. As young children work to master new skills, their success is almost always enabled by external supports (from both people and things) that allow them to accomplish just a little more in combination than they could on their own. We call this scaffolding - and this video, shared to IG by rachaelmackenziee - is a treasure trove of examples. Let’s start with the obvious. Our hero is right on the cusp of descending the stairs independently… but he’s not quite there. With the help of the staircase railing (which act like a set of training wheels), he slowly but surely makes the trip successfully. An even more interesting example comes when he spots something on the stair: A crumb. While it’s not clear exactly what this crumb is, what is clear is that he REALLY wants to check it out. Mom, however, advises that it’s yucky and not for him. Watch how her language becomes the tool baby uses to overcome his urge to touch it. His eyes remain drawn to it, but he resists the urge to touch it. “Bye crumb!” he announces. Even as he passes, he continues to look back at it. But now it’s game time. He’s approaching the bottom of the stairs and needs to focus on his footing. He repeats mom’s urging to keep coming (“chop chop”) and then scaffolds HIMSELF with private pep talk. “COME ON FREDDIE!” As he makes it to the penultimate step, his attention shifts once more… back to that sweet, sweet crumb. Again we have a window on his thinking as he uses private speech to remind himself… “Oh, it’s a crumb. It’s go away.” So amazing to watch how his successful journey is scaffolded by at least three different types of support - one physical (the railing), one external (mom’s guidance), and one internal (his private speech). I only wish this video had gone another 3 seconds. As it ends Freddie has reached both the final step and the end of the railing - presenting one last challenge. Because it ends where it does, my strong suspicion is that Mom stops filming to provide one last scaffold - extending the hand Freddie needs to make it down safely. Such a cool little vignette.

i just found out about this while randomly browsing old snsd videos on youtube. —— on 5 june 2011, during snsd's japan tour in saitama, sunny wasn't feeling well and couldn't continue performing. her solo stage had to be cancelled, and at one point fans were left wondering why only eight members were on stage. sunny had been taken to the hospital and ended up missing more than half of the concert. but even though she still wasn't in her best condition, she eventually came back. she apologized to the fans and said she wanted to sing the last song together with everyone. when she returned to the stage, she was welcomed back by the members and the entire arena, and that's when sunny couldn't hold back her tears anymore. watching this clip 15 years later feels strangely emotional. we often remember sunny as snsd's "energy pill" – the member who could brighten the atmosphere, make everyone laugh, and somehow keep smiling. but moments like this remind me that behind that image was also someone who could get tired, sick, overwhelmed, and emotional. and still, she came back because she wanted to finish that moment together with her members and the fans. there are so many little stories from snsd's long history that newer fans like me are still discovering years later, and every time i find one like this, i understand a little more why the bond between snsd and sone became what it is. this happened in 2011, but watching sunny walk back onto that stage and immediately burst into tears still hits even now. our energy pill didn't have to be strong all the time. sometimes she needed everyone else's strength too.

But let’s be brutally honest: Bulldozing buildings is not justice. It’s theatre. These monsters laugh at it because they know the real system is broken. They get arrested, the courtroom drama begins, and then? Bail. Delays. Technicalities. Witnesses turn hostile. Cases drag for years. Many walk out freer and bolder than before. The law is so weak, so toothless, that predators operate with zero fear. Until capital punishment is imposed swiftly and without mercy on these rapists, traffickers, and child predators, NOTHING will change. No more rehabilitation. No more sympathy. No more endless appeals while victims’ lives are ruined forever. These are not humans, they are beasts who have forfeited their right to live among us. Hang them. Publicly if needed. I hate to go here… I truly do. Kelvin Banks Jr. has played Left Tackle at Texas under Sark since his freshman year! 3 full seasons of this man being an All- American. Last year, he was voted best lineman in football! If Kelvin Banks was white, yall wouldn’t dissect him based on one game vs Georgia. Do yall do Will Campbell like that? After he got merked by Jared Verse? He had chip block help by Guard,RB, and TE the whole game and still got worked.. Yall either.. 1. Clueless about this happening 2. Forgot about it 3. aware of it but chalked it up as “one” bad game Point is, whenever this fan base detects a mature, strong, and alpha type of leader in a black man, they get real uncomfortable and try to dissect them. I’m over it! Look at the Tape! Look at how fast Jayden Daniels is delivering the football! It’s outta there under 2.7 seconds everytime. Will Campbell still gave up 2 sacks and a strip sack. Quinn Ewers is known for getting rid of football quick too but vs Georgia he was holding the football for 4+ seconds. Banks didn’t get chip block help and he was taking on multiple blitz pickups back to back! He was on an island just as he would be in the NFL. Banks really only had one bad rep in the entire game and y’all blew it up because you don’t understand football. Now the question is, who does Caleb play more similar to? Does Caleb consistently get rid of ball or does he hold the ball? He holds the ball. You need to get him a bookend left tackle that can buy him the most time! A tackle that can be left on an island! A lineman that can be versatile enough to pull or play guard if needed due to injury. Kelvin Banks is the perfect freaking lineman for Caleb Williams and y’all dummies don’t even see it. I honestly hope Banks goes elsewhere. Y’all want another 70 sacks season, let’s do it! Yall want Braxton Jones fresh off of lower leg injury to anchor the pass rush, be my guest!

I want to release a solo album, is that okay?" I said, "If you want to do it, of course you should, I’ll support you 💪🏻." He started working very hard on the album. At the time, he was preparing both a Korean and a Japanese album together, but they had to be finished within two or three months. Watching him, I thought it was truly too difficult, and the schedule was very tight. 👧🏻: After all, you were right there by his side watching him. 🐯: I also went to his MV filming site, and it looked incredibly exhausting. After the promotions ended, Eunhyuk said to me, "You should try a solo once too. I tried it and found it very fun~." But Eunhyuk is naturally good at variety shows, so I replied, "I don't want to, I don't want to. Let's just do D&E 🥺." He said, "Just try it once~ try it!
