In the last few years, the MHA has revamped the entire strategy to realize PM Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of a ‘Drug-Free India’. Braced with the power of a whole-of-government approach, India dealt the mightiest blow to the narcotics trade. The top-to-bottom approach to the investigation led to massive crackdowns on the evil. Today, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL-756) offloaded 18,898 pounds of cocaine with an estimated value of $214.3 million. This offload is the result of six drug interdictions executed by the crews of Coast Guard Cutter Kimball and Coast Guard Cutter Forward (WMEC-911) from February to April. While youths in Akoko-Edo protested drug misuse, overspeeding, and irresponsible driving, one young man drove dangerously fast past the convoy. Security personnel promptly pursued and captured him. Upon examination, he was discovered to be under the influence of drugs. His motorcycle has been impounded and will remain at the police station for three months, while he is expected to be transferred to Benin for further investigation. This serves as a strong warning to everyone involved in the sale or use of illicit drugs: the NDLEA and other security agencies are taking the fight against drug abuse seriously. The law will take its course against anyone found violating it.
