The eagle-eyed among you might recognise we shared this earlier - here it is with video evidence! Every elephant is special, but there's something about Taroha. He is easygoing, gentle, and unusually nurturing for a bull. We often see him fussing over the little ones, breaking up disputes, and pulling down leaves his smaller friends can't reach. He even now holds his own bottle – although much of the contents dribble down his chin! He is also a hard-won success story. We rescued Taroha in March 2023, after KWS rangers discovered him on the shores of Lake Jipe, alone and terribly vulnerable. He arrived at the Nursery in poor health and for many months it was a daily struggle to keep him alive. But we never gave up on him:

How we look on the outside is one of part but mainly it’s about how we get along, like how we come together, how we adapt with each other. seeing this again makes me wonder how hard & anxious taki was while preparing for this performance, especially knowing that he's a person who mostly keeps everything to himself to avoid burdening others. he's been hating his own voice, but then he knew luné love seeing him sing & perform. he loves seeing people happy, so he wanna make luné happy with his voice. on the 1st day, other than visibly trembling, he also took a deep breath several times as if trying to calm himself down rather than to sing. thankfully, on the 2nd day, he became more confident 'cause he probably knew how much we loved his performance. i'm seriously so proud of him, i hope he'll see himself the way i and others who love him see him. how talented he is and how beautiful his voice is.
