Todayโ€™s news about rape in Jajpur, gangrape in Jagatsinghpur and Malkangiri and sexual assault in Puri โ€ฆ deeply saddens and horrifies all of us. A disturbing wave of crimes against women is gripping Odisha. Both in cities and villages, the streets have become increasingly unsafe for women--in broad daylight and night. A young student heading to school or college or returning from tutorial classes cannot be sure of her safety. Danger now lurks in everyday normal places. This surge in sexual assaults reflects a troubling erosion of law enforcement. When the various ranks of the police face interference and political pressure, accountability weakens--and women and girls pay the price first. Adding to this concern, the US Government last month issued a Level 2 travel advisory that listed Odisha among six Indian states where American employees must seek special approval to travel beyond capital cities. While the state has seen a decline in Maoist activity and there is minimal terrorism, this inclusion likely reflects concerns over rising crimes against women. The July 17 directive by Ravenshaw University in Cuttack--banning women from staying on campus beyond 5:30 PM--further exposed the crisis. Though it was withdrawn after public outrage, the order revealed a mindset that seeks to restrict women instead of making public spaces safer for them. It punished women instead of targeting the real problem. Without urgent and decisive police action and political will backing it, this problem will only grow. The political leadership must realise that allowing interference of local party leaders in police stations will only normalise violence across the state especially gender-based violence. The state BJP government must act immediately to restore safety and rebuild womenโ€™s trust in the system sworn to protect them. BJD will continue to raise its voice for the protection of our mothers and sisters in every forum.

In a damning exposรฉ, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, has blown the lid off on one of the most audacious electoral frauds in recent memory. Armed with irrefutable evidence, he handed over proof to the Election Commission, revealing a staggering ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ ๐ฅ๐š๐ค๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ž, ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐š๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐ญ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฏ๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, spanning all 294 Assembly Constituencies. The real winner of these elections is CECPalestine the Palestinian Central Elections Commission. Against all odds, it demonstrated that Palestinians are fully capable of organizing democratic electionsโ€”both in the West Bank and, notably, in Gaza. Voter turnout was higher than in previous rounds, despite Hamasโ€™s boycott. This reflects something deeper: a growing current of moderation within Palestinian society. Candidates and voters alike showed a commitment to political engagement, governance, and a future shaped through institutionsโ€”not violence. President Mahmoud Abbas faced a clear political message. Wherever genuine competition was allowed, his camp was challengedโ€”and often defeated. Where competition was restricted, he prevailed. This is not a sign of strength, but of a system resisting renewal. Importantly, he was challenged from all directions: โ€”from the left and the right, โ€”from moderates, liberals, and reformists, โ€”and even from within Fatah itself, including more radical factions, as seen in places like Jenin. In small and medium-sized citiesโ€”where tribal dynamics play a lesser roleโ€”a new generation is emerging. Young reformists, many of them breaking away from traditional Fatah structures in protest, achieved significant victories. In larger cities, however, tribal influence remained a decisive factor. The implications are clear: The success of the elections and the visible rise of a pragmatic, reform-oriented current within Palestinian society should be enough to move forwardโ€”without delayโ€”toward national presidential and legislative elections. This is no longer just a political demand. It is a societal readiness.

AOC: How do we get out of this pattern that we seem to have been stuck in for years? This state knows it well. Six elections in a row, starting in 1992, Democratic presidential candidates won here in Michigan. In fact, it wasnโ€™t even particularly close in most of those contests. But then, in 2016, something shiftedโ€”not just here in Michigan, but across the country. Not just with Democrats, but also with Republicans. And to many political watchers, it seemed that the laws of political nature were totally upended. But it happened in all directions. And that is also part of what Bernieโ€™s campaign spoke to 10 years ago as well. And thatโ€™s also what Trumpโ€™s victory in the fall in this state represented: this oscillation in response to the failure of our political system to address the needs of working people. These earthquakes and aftershocksโ€ฆ Two years after 2016, we had another aftershock across the country. And as a part of that, I went from being a waitress to winning a primary against a 20-year Democratic incumbent who was meant to be the next Speaker of the House. So I get it, Michigan. My frustrationsโ€”precisely because the stakes are so high, precisely because of their corruption, their discrimination, the gutting of voting rightsโ€”I understood the stakes of cleaning up my own backyard back here at home. We had to look at our contributions and why people like my family and my neighborhood felt so failed by the party in charge of championing the working class, and ask: How can we be better? In fact, we have a responsibility to be better. And all of us have been trying to get a handle on what all of that means ever since. And we do know some of the many contributing causes and factors. Yes, one of the deep causes has been bad trade deals that hollowed out states like Michigan. Another cause was the record income inequality and the Great Recession, spurred on by unchecked greed on Wall Street. And yes, yet another cause was the slew of shameful and quiet bigotries waiting in the shadows in pockets of our countryโ€”racism, sexism, fear of our neighborโ€”that seemed to gnash their teeth the strongest the closer we get to uniting across our differences. All of these things are true. And yet there is more, because it was also due to a political system that had, over decades and across parties, become totally enmeshed in a financial and electoral politics that stopped serving working people.

A 27-year-old elite athlete doesn't suddenly change to street-level mugging. Yet, a single accusation in Upper Naguru was enough to trigger a lethal flash-mob reaction. โ€‹This is the terrifying reality of informal justice systems. When trust in formal institutions collapses, communities default to a tribal, immediate form of deterrence. Mob justice operates on a zero-margin-of-error principle where the accusation acts as the verdict and the execution happens concurrently. It relies entirely on collective anonymity, allowing individuals to bypass personal moral accountability under the guise of public safety. โ€‹The arrest of three suspects is a surface-level fix to a structural pathogen. The video footage circulating isn't just evidence of a crime; it is documentation of a cultural normalization of violence. If a high-profile national figure can be erased from the grid in minutes based on unverified panic, then no average citizen is safe. True accountability requires dismantling the societal belief that street corners have the jurisdiction to hand out death sentences. We cannot afford to mistake collective bloodlust for civic duty. The transition from a rules-based society to a state of nature happens precisely when we begin to tolerate the mob as a legitimate alternative to due process. RIP Sydney.

Some relationships are older than borders. For the Muslim world, this relationship is called 'Ummah' a shared identity, a shared destiny. In 1969, leaders of the Muslim world gathered in Rabat and resolved to speak with one voice, which resulted in the creation of today's Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). What began with a few countries has now grown into a large family of 57 member states from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and other regions, making it the world's second largest international organization after the United Nations. It represents nearly two billion people, united by a shared vision of peace, development, education and human dignity. Over time, the OIC has strengthened its commitment to promoting women's rights, leadership and effective participation in society. To give practical form to this commitment, the Women's Development Organization, the Agenda for the Advancement of Women and the series of Ministerial Conferences on Women, which began in Istanbul in 2006, were established. Today, for the ninth time, this Ministerial Conference is being held in Islamabad. is being held in Abad. Women in the Muslim world have always played a significant role in the development of their families, societies and countries as educators, professionals, entrepreneurs, leaders and agents of positive change. Their perseverance, achievements and leadership continue to pave the way for progress and prosperity in every sector of society. #OICinPakistan2026 #9thOICWomen
