VANDE BHARAT: At 100 kmph on the world's highest railway bridge The Vande Bharat train has, for the first time, operated at a speed of nearly 100 kmph on the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River, following the Railway Ministry’s approval to increase the maximum permissible speed on the Katra-Banihal rail section. The approval allows trains to run at speeds of up to 100 kmph on the 111-kilometre-long new broad gauge rail section between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal under the Jammu Division of Northern Railway. Earlier, the permissible speed was 85 kmph on the Katra-Sangaldan section and 75 kmph on the Sangaldan-Banihal section. With this approval, this special train is expected to cover the travel time between J&K's capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar in around three and a half hours.

For years, boarding a train meant being lifted without dignity. This time, it was different. With a simple ramp placed at the door of the Vande Bharat Express, a wheelchair user was able to roll in independently. A small metal ramp. But for someone who uses a wheelchair, it means freedom, independence, and equal access to travel. Accessible ramps, wheelchair boarding support, and inclusive railway design must become the standard across all Indian trains and stations.
