Coordination Meeting Between Police and GHMC on Monsoon Preparedness Advance measures to prevent inconvenience to city residents Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in view, the Police and GHMC departments have decided to work in coordination to take preventive measures so that citizens do not face any inconvenience. A convergence coordination meeting was held on Thursday at the Old Police Commissionerate Office in Basheerbagh under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, and GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan, IAS. During the meeting, officials discussed several key issues and gave clear directions to field-level staff. They instructed that desilting of drainage systems and repair of pipelines should begin immediately on a war footing, rather than waiting for the rains to start. Officials also emphasized that work should begin immediately at the top 10 identified waterlogging points in the city to provide permanent solutions. They further directed that all open manholes must be securely covered to prevent any threat to public safety. It was noted that a proper plan should be prepared and implemented to remove encroachments on footpaths for the convenience of pedestrians. Authorities were also instructed to ensure that streetlights function properly at night for public safety and to install new lights wherever necessary. To prevent road accidents, engineering defects on roads should be rectified. Hats off to the compassionate citizens who are staying up day and night to ensure the safety and release of the remaining dogs back to their respective territories. We envision creating a vibrant, well-equipped recreational and sports destination for all age groups. Six months ago in The New York Times, I argued that the data on driverless cars was becoming overwhelming and that needless barriers were costing lives. But data wonโ€™t win our trust. Six months ago in The New York Times, I argued that the data on driverless cars was becoming overwhelming and that needless barriers were costing lives. But data wonโ€™t win our trust. Today in Noema Magazine, I explain why. Being safe and feeling safe are not the same. Whatโ€™s puzzling is that where these cars operate, the numbers arenโ€™t close: 94% fewer serious-injury crashes than human drivers on the same roads, across 220 million driverless miles. Plummeted pedestrian and intersection crashes. Peer reviewed research confirms these findings. But trust hasnโ€™t followed. Part of the answer lies in the signals we read. A cautious machine can look confused. A failsafe can look like a failure. One visible mistake will outweigh millions of clean miles. When a human makes a mistake, we can see ourselves in it. Weโ€™ve all looked down at the wrong time. When a machine makes the mistake, thereโ€™s no one to blame and no one to forgive. Itโ€™s an opaque version of fate we canโ€™t accept. Data shows that we will choose a worse human over a better algorithm. Medicine has been here before. When we are patients, we canโ€™t usually read care quality directly. So we read what we can see: the bandage on the floor, stained ceiling tiles, how staff talks to each other. Healthcare spent 30 years building the discipline of patient experience and writing this playbook. Today hospitals are measured and paid on it. The driverless car industry has built the safety half.
