Sometimes the most dangerous situations start with something simple … like expired plates. ‼️ Yesterday just after 10 a.m., one of our traffic officers attempted to stop a driver of a pickup towing a trailer with years-old expired tags on southbound I-225 at East 17th Place. The driver had other ideas. And from there, you’ll see. Lives could have changed in an instant. Despite activating lights and siren, the driver not only refused to stop but also swerved toward our officer on his motorcycle. Thankfully, our officer was able to hit the brakes to avoid a collision, even after a large box flew off the back of the pickup.🚔 The suspect then blew through a red light, trying to evade our traffic officer who continued the pursuit undeterred despite nearly being run over. The suspect drove recklessly through the Fitzsimons Parkway area, at one point making another run at another responding officer while also weaving into oncoming traffic. When he crashed into a fence in the 1900 block of Akron Street, he tried to run. Spoiler alert: running rarely works. Thanks to a detailed description from the original motor officer and alert community members who saw him discarding clothing, officers quickly established a perimeter and located 39-year-old Kyle Secrist. Insolent even in his capture, the suspect had the audacity to ask approaching officers, “What did I do?” Secrist was detained without further incident and arrested for attempted homicide, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, vehicular eluding and motor vehicle theft…did we forget to mention the pickup he was driving AND the trailer were both stolen? The suspect’s criminal history spans 20+ pages and includes dangerous drug offenses, parole violations, assault, burglary, menacing, habitual traffic offender and DUI offenses, and child abuse. Expired plates are fixable. Trying to run over a police officer is not.➡️ Our officers never know when a routine stop will turn into something more. They show up anyway. Officer safety is not just a talking point. It is real. It is unpredictable. And it is a risk our officers accept every day to keep this community safe. NEW: Baltimore police officer suspended after apparently trying to run over a civilian before crashing into a house. Baltimore City's police commissioner, Richard Worley says the video was so bizarre he thought it was AI. “First, I saw it, I thought it was AI, I honestly did. This animal control officer received a call that a dog attacked a child and tried to attack a second one. So the officer and his supervisor showed up. The plan was for the supervisor to tranquillize the dog and the officer would chase it. They showed up, found the dog, and the supervisor hit him with a tranquilizer and then the dog took off running and the chase was on. As you can see it was a very long chase but the officer kept pace (apparently he runs marathons) until the tranquilizer kicked in and the dog stopped and laid down. A tranquilizer can take up to 30 minutes and sometimes they require multiple doses depending on the dog. He said the dog looks to be a red golden/chow mix. He said the child had to get a couple of stitches but was going to be fine. The dog was quarantined and will be euthanized when the quarantine is over. I’m glad the child was alright. And I’m glad the officer was compassionate with the dog. Did you know it took that long for a tranquilizer to kick in? (I didn’t). Do you think if a dog attacks a person it should be an automatic euthanization?

This dad called 911 because his seven year old autistic son wasn’t behaving and was having a tantrum. The officer that spoke with him told the father that it was completely inappropriate to call the police over this. He said they have an entire town to protect and three officers responded and then asks the dad while chuckling - “can’t handle a seven year old?” The dad tells him that he has called 911 twice before but no one has ever got mad at him like this officer. The officer tells him that they are approaching charging him with false summoning a police officer. He also tells him that if he can’t handle a seven year then maybe they should get CYS involved because clearly the dad needs parenting classes. 😳 Many said the officer was rude and didn’t have to be. That his job is to protect and SERVE the community and that the family was just reaching out, that he needed support and someone to to talk to because they have no idea how hard it is to raise an autistic child? But others said this is not a job for a police officer, that they aren’t counselors and therapists and that there are many resources available through the city that he should using. 💯 I am team police officer. Some may find it rude but this is not in their job description. And being the third time? You have to put a stop to the 911 calls. What do you think? I honked for him to stop, but he didn’t and just drove off, so we decided to follow him to his house. When we got there, we politely asked for his insurance and license, even after having to chase him down, but he refused—despite there being scratches on the car and even admitting in the video that he hit us. Says he didn’t know Detective Gillis was a police officer and he thought it was a security guard who didn’t know he was instructed to go around traffic. It’s rare that anything good comes from talking to the police in a situation like this. Here, he’s being asked intentionally leading questions and was better off saying nothing. The purpose of the line of questioning here seems like it was to get Scottie to admit he knew it was a police officer, despite Scottie saying 4-5x he did not know that. Regardless, the 2nd Degree Assault charge only requires that Scottie *intentionally* caused injury to another through the use of a dangerous instrument (the car). Does anybody actually believe Scottie purposely intended to run down some security guards at the Valhalla entrance on his way to his tee time? Hopefully they drop the charges today and end this charade.

Curtis Sliwa was a McDonald’s manager fed up with the rising crime in NYC at the height of the crack/cocaine epidemic. He founded the Guardian Angels in 1979 & was also the target of a mob hit in 1992 in my own neighborhood in the East Village. They are legends who patrolled the subways when NYC was peak crime ridden and would even rob drug dealers and crack houses to steal the drugs to destroy and give the money to soup kitchens. They don’t carry badges or weapons and it is all volunteer. When mayor Rudy W. Giuliani saved our city and made it safe again they were no longer required and the year was 1994. Since our city has become infested with liberal politicians and transplants that aren’t true New Yorkers . They only came after it was made safe by Republicans and they hipster trust fund babies continually vote in these do nothing politicians & our crime has skyrocketed as a byproduct. In 2016 they returned to the subways out of necessity. Curtis Sliwa ran for mayor in 2021 and lost to Eric Adams. Let’s give him the traction he needs to win if he decides to run again because he is the ideal candidate to save our city.

Our murder rate continues to trend down but murders over a period of days indicate a need to continue to apply pressure on criminals. As I received an update from Deputy Commissioner Clarke about the 27% decline in murders compared to the same period last year, I shared that crime was a substantial part of our discussion at the recently concluded CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Barbados. I again made the appeal for us to treat our approach to crime fighting, particularly gangs, similarly to the war on terror. It is within our power to collectively dismantle gangs and sustainably bring down murders. Our police are working very hard in this regard and have the full support of the government. Their training dictates that they uphold the tenets of human rights and the appropriate use of force. I caution criminals not to challenge the police who have superior training and resources and will overcome them. Lay down your weapons, surrender peacefully and have your day in court. We will be unrelenting in creating peaceful communities for our Jamaican people.

Axios reporter Alex Thompson zeroed in on what he thought was a potential vulnerability: the bill’s Medicaid changes wouldn’t kick in until after the midterms. It was a classic “gotcha” moment—except Jennings didn’t take the bait. “You say, Republicans should lean in, but most of these Medicaid cuts don't come until after the midterms. What their viewers saw was a live demonstration of two tier justice in action. Tommy Robinson was thrown in a maximum security jail for a civil offence. Huw Edwards was left to walk the streets after sexually exploiting minors. “It’s a different crime,” say Pierce and Cates. It sure is. One involves physical and sexual harming of children, the other doesn’t. “At the end of the day he pleaded guilty!’ Pierce bleats, just after cutting me off for “getting off the point”. Edwards pleaded guilty too. But Tommy went to jail. Listen to the verbal contortions of these two “journalists” and whoever is in their ear. It sounds to me like they are trying to make out that because Edwards wasn’t jailed his crime was less serious. Which of course is the whole point of jailing Tommy and letting Edwards walk. Two tier justice doing what it’s meant to. Let’s pray Mr Edwards doesn’t reoffend and that no harm comes to Tommy in Belmarsh.
