No two traffic stops are ever the same. What started as a seatbelt stop quickly turned into something more. Officer Morgan Smith and Officer Karim Saoud were out reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts and stopped one driver who wasn’t wearing his. When our officers asked for his information, he gave them what turned out to be a fake name. When you don’t have a phone or wallet and can’t remember your social security number, that raises some red flags with our officers. Officer Smith and Officer Saoud quickly figured out that the suspect had a warrant out for his arrest from Bradford County. This traffic stop ended in a trip for our suspect to the Duval County jail. Drive safe and buckle up, Duval.

Introducing Jacksonville’s newest police officers! These 39 men and women make up one of the largest graduating police classes in our agency. They spent the last 9 months training hard, spending countless hours in the classroom and gym to become the best officers and community servants they can be. Graduation doesn’t mean they’re finished with training. Each new officer will now spend the next several months training alongside veteran officers, responding to real incidents. Congratulations to Police Class 04-25 and welcome to the JSO family!

Six years ago, Officer Jimmie Collins was picking up lunch during an off-duty shift when he heard loud bangs. He turned and saw a hooded man with a pistol in his hand, running in the parking lot and jumping into a getaway car. Officer Collins didn’t hesitate to get into his patrol car and chase the suspect, eventually stopping the vehicle. Officer Collins didn’t expect to find known gang member Hakeem Robinson, a.k.a Ksoo, in the car. Robinson is now facing a life sentence after he was convicted of murder last year. These days, Officer Collins spends his days at the Academy, teaching the next generation of our Police and Corrections recruits. We recently recognized Officer Collins as our Police Officer of the Month; congratulations Officer Collins!

No two calls for service are ever alike. Take this call, for example, from Monday, April 13, when a man was walking his dog (that happened to be a retired narcotics canine) at Hanna Park. The two stumbled upon a bale of marijuana washed ashore after high tide and called our officers. Our officers quickly responded, collected the ‘square grouper’, and delivered it to our property and evidence vault. Just another day for our officers!

We want to say a big ‘Thank You' to Head Coach Liam Coen and the Jacksonville Jaguars for hosting three of our all-star officers at one of the team’s practices! The Jaguars invited Officer Antonio Richardson, Officer Joseph Neighbor, and Officer Brandon Creighton-Nelson to meet the players after the trio saved a young man from taking his own life on the Dames Point Bridge. The body-worn camera video of their interactions reached millions of people across the world and opened conversations about mental health. Our officers don’t do their jobs to make headlines or get attention, but it is always nice to see them get extra appreciation and recognition. Once again, thank you to Coach Coen and the entire Jaguars team for showing support for our officers! DUUUVAL!

Jacksonville, we need your help after an alarming incident. This afternoon (May 7, 2026), our District 4 Patrol officers received a call about a suspicious incident on Blanding Boulevard and 118thStreet. The incident, caught on nearby surveillance camera video, shows a black man in his 20s arguing with a black woman in her 20s. The woman walks away, and the man follows her, before he picks her up and carries her to a white vehicle. We’re working hard to find out who the man and woman are is so we can determine if the woman is safe. The man is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, has small twists in his hair, and was wearing a light-colored shirt with black pants. The woman appears to be in her early 20s wearing a gray hoodie and black pants. If you know who they are and can help us contact them, please call 904.630.0500 immediately. You can also call First Coast Crime Stoppers ( to report what you know anonymously. We want to make sure the woman is safe.

118 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone? Not on our watch. The ‘Super Speeder’ law is in full effect. Drive 100mph or 50mph over the limit? Expect a hefty ticket and even a stay in the Duval County jail. Yep, that fast is considered criminal. We get it, you have somewhere you want to be. Speeding might get you there faster, but it could also put you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road in danger. We’ve lost 65 people in traffic fatalities this year, 17 more than this time last year. We are not messing around when it comes to safety on our roads. Speed, and be prepared to face the consequences. Drive safe, Duval.

𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐎𝐍 𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐀: 𝐉𝐒𝐎 𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐲𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 We’re releasing body-worn camera video from an incident last week (Wednesday, March 18), where more than 200 teens came together at Blue Cypress Park in District 2 for a ‘teen takeover’. The teens began fighting, and our officers, who were already nearby, intervened. Three teen girls were arrested for their roles in the fights. We do not take situations like this lightly. As you see in the video, people who were enjoying the park had to leave because this takeover got out of hand. We have officers and detectives who monitor when takeovers are advertised online, but parents, we need your help. Know what your child is doing with his or her time. Know who they’re spending time with. Ask questions. It’s very easy to see the difference between a legitimate event and one of these ‘takeovers’. Teenagers planning more takeovers, beware. We know, and we will stop them.

𝐉𝐒𝐎, 𝐉𝐅𝐑𝐃 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐚 𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 Five-year-old Liam Tuten, from South Georgia, has been in Jacksonville since September, fighting an aggressive brain tumor. He and his parents have spent around the clock in the hospital, and he recently completed his third bone marrow transplant. That’s something worth celebrating. So, local nonprofit Dreams Come True made sure he did just that. From his hospital room, Liam would watch traffic on I-95 and talk about the cars passing by. That’s when the idea came together: surprise him with a ride in a shiny red Ferrari. Cool, right? We thought so too…but we had to take it a step further. Our Special Events Team partnered with JFRD to give Liam a full lights-and-sirens escort through San Marco for an afternoon he won’t forget. Moments like this matter. And if you’re wondering- no, this didn’t convince him to become a police officer or firefighter. Liam says he’s still set on being a farmer. We’re rooting for you, Liam. 💙

𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 Sheriff Waters stopped a theft in progress at a hardware store on Atlantic Boulevard this afternoon after a foot chase and struggle. Sheriff Waters was picking up an order at customer service when a store employee flagged him down. A man was attempting to leave the store with roughly $500 in merchandise. Sheriff Waters and a retired robbery detective chased the man. When the Sheriff tried to grab him by his sweatshirt, the man twisted away. The Sheriff pursued him to the edge of the parking lot, where he took him to the ground. The man struggled to get away and resisted, but with the help of the retired detective, they were able to get him into handcuffs as shoppers cheered them on. District 2 Patrol officers responded quickly and took over the investigation. The suspect has been identified as Raymond Pena, Jr. of Jacksonville (40). He is charged with theft and resisting. He also had two active warrants for theft. “Just because I was elected sheriff doesn’t mean I’m no longer a policeman,” said Sheriff Waters, who recently cited a teenager for littering. The Sheriff and detective were not injured in the scuffle. Sheriff Waters says he will always do what he can to protect the city.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐮: 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐔𝐩 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 No, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day joke. Those blue lights in your rearview could in fact be from Sheriff T.K. Waters himself. On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Sheriff Waters and the Director of Patrol and Enforcement, Mark Romano, watched a driver toss a cheeseburger wrapper out of his car. Moments later, the driver then tossed a full fast-food bag out the window and onto the road. Not on our watch. Littering isn’t just disrespectful, it’s illegal. Yes, the sheriff’s SUV has lights. Yes, the Sheriff will use the lights if he feels the need to. Director Romano called for a nearby sergeant to help write the report and issue this teen driver a fine. Don’t be trashy: littering comes with a fine ranging from $150 to more than a $1,000 with the potential for jail time. Our city is beautiful, and it takes all of us working together to keep it that way. Don’t litter, drive carefully, and make good choices; you never know who might pull you over.

On October 12, 2024, Sheriff T.K. Waters, alongside Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey, joined Chief of Investigation Alan Parker to provide details leading up to the murder of one of our Corrections Officers. At approximately 1:20 a.m., in the 12900 block of Duval Road, a black Mustang occupied by a black male (suspect) and a female, were involved in a violent dispute. During the argument, the suspect was observed exiting the vehicle from the passenger seat and walking around to the driver’s side. The suspect then placed a black handgun on the hood of the vehicle and removed the female from the driver’s seat. The male proceeded to batter the female, violently throwing her against the vehicle and the ground. During the commotion, off-duty Corrections Officer Bradley McNew #7697, who just finished his shift, heard the disturbance and went to check on the female victim. The suspect approached Officer McNew, stating it was a family matter, then re-engaged with the female before pointing the gun in Officer McNew’s direction. The suspect and female eventually returned to the vehicle. As they left the scene, the suspect was observed hanging out of the window, firing the firearm, and ultimately striking Officer McNew. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This is an ongoing investigation, and we ask the public to remain vigilant and consider the suspect armed and dangerous. The vehicle was reported heading northbound on Main Street towards Nassau County. It is a 2000 black Mustang with North Carolina license plate RHL-4285. Please do not approach the suspect or vehicle; call 911 immediately if observed.

GA-FL INCIDENTS UPDATE Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey, and Commander Jacob Vorpahl are releasing important context, body-worn camera footage, and additional details regarding two incidents from Saturday’s game. In the first incident, the suspect was asked multiple times to leave and threatened the officers attempting to remove him. The suspect later grabbed one officer’s firearm. In the second incident, three suspects were asked to leave due to aggressive behavior toward other fans. They then became combative with officers, with one individual grabbing an officer’s face and holding onto his service belt. While the use of force can appear intense, our investigation determined that the officers in both incidents acted within policy to protect themselves and nearby fans. The following videos provide body-worn camera footage from both incidents and add context that was missing in the short, edited clips circulated on social media. #JaxSheriff #Jacksonville #GeorgiaFlorida

When 25-year-old Jordan Wilson tried to hoof it after handing off illegal drugs, he didn’t count on your #JSO Mounted Unit being hot on his tail. Police Service Horse Nash, with Officer Cassie Haire in the saddle, galloped into action, proving that criminals can run, but they can’t hide from our horsepower! After a quarter-mile chase, Wilson decided to rein it in and surrender to Officer Zackary Maryland. While Nash is the star of the video, we want to give a big shoutout to fellow crime-fighting steeds Jaxx, Judge, and Duke, for making sure justice was the mane priority. 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘, 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐃𝐎! Officer Luis Mercado left the hospital after an armed robbery suspect shot him in the leg earlier this morning. Officer Mercado used his training to apply a tourniquet to his own leg moments after he returned fire. JFRD took him to the hospital where he spent a few hours receiving medical care before being sent home to continue recovering. We appreciate all the well wishes and prayers for his recovery. Please continue to pray for him as he recovers from home. “I’m so glad he’s able to go home to his family,” Sheriff Waters said outside the hospital. “That’s the biggest thing for me, and it’s so good to see his fellow officers come out to watch him as he leaves the hospital.” We ask you continue to respect Officer Mercado’s and his family’s privacy at this time. The suspect involved in the shooting did not survive.

🚨 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡 & 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 🐟🎰 Nearly two years. 12 arrests. Millions of dollars’ worth of seized property—one of the largest seizures in our agency’s history. A crackdown on illegal gaming. Your #JSO Vice Unit spearheaded this multi-agency operation to shut down illegal gaming locations in Jacksonville. From March 2023 to December of this year, detectives worked tirelessly to identify these illegal operations and arrest those who were profiting off them. On December 11th, we served seven search warrants simultaneously, capturing those responsible for these illegal gaming rooms. ITEMS SEIZED 🎰 263 illegal gambling devices, including slot machines, fish tables, and desktop computers 💰 $2.5M in illegally sourced cash 💎 $1.2M in jewelry, watches, and purses (paid for with illegally obtained money) 🏎️ 15 vehicles and a trailer (valued at almost $1.7M, paid for with illegally obtained money) 🔫 52 firearms 🏘️ 2 houses 🏢 1 commercial building This operation is about much more than shutting down illegal businesses; it’s about keeping your neighborhood safe. Where there is illegal business, there is violence. During the timeframe of Operation Fish & Chips, two people were killed at illegal gaming locations across Duval County. There were also 8 robberies and 26 aggravated assaults at these sites. Shutting these locations down removes one accelerant that fuels violence in our community. We want to thank our state and federal partners for their role in Operation Fish & Chips: Florida’s Attorney General’s Office statewide prosecution, the Florida Gaming Control Commission, the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
