After the Spain and France game, I tweeted this: “Collective quality outperformed individual quality.” This was just a sense. It was a feeling after the game that I quickly put into words, but I didn’t have any evidence for it. I didn’t have anything other than the feeling that I got from watching the game. So I decided to go into FIFA’s Training Centre and look up the match reports to see if I could find anything that would lead to the conclusion I had: that Spain were collectively better than France. At a glance, the answer was no. Other than expected goals, pretty much everything was around the same: complete passes, pass completion, possession percentage and ball progressions. If you look at the line breaks, you’ll see that France were actually a little bit higher, which makes sense because France typically like to play a little bit more vertically. However, there is one statistic that does show what I felt: offering to receive. France had 329 total offers made, distributed fairly evenly throughout the field, and 114 total offers received. Spain, on the other hand, had 438 total offers made. They made 236 offers in the middle third and 275 offers inside the shape. That is where the numbers really begin to differ. As FIFA defines it, an offer to receive is an off-ball movement that shows intent to support the player on the ball, either to maintain possession or progress the ball. Spain were constantly providing their teammates, through proximity, through closeness, and through angles and lines of support, an option to continue playing. That shows that, in moments when Spain have the ball, there are constantly three, four or five players moving and providing an option to continue to maintain possession. Spain play together. The player on the ball is rarely left alone to solve the moment through their individual quality while everyone else watches. There is an option, an exit plan, some way out in case they need it. Secondly, when we think about this Spanish style, we often think about one touch, two touch, pass, pass, pass. What we often fail to realize is that these players have so much ability on the ball. Even a right back has the quality to beat a player, get out of a press and continue the attack. Playing collectively does not mean removing individual quality. Their individual quality allows the collective to continue playing. Then there are the speed-up moments. Spain can maintain possession, move France, slow the game down and continue offering support, but when the moment to go forward appears, it is time to go forward. They recognize that moment of verticality and they accelerate. Then, if the possibility disappears, they slow down again and continue playing. There is another element of Spain. Once they have moved France back into their final third, they create these structures where they basically suffocate you. Any time the ball pops out, there are players ready to defend and ready to win the next ball in order to keep it going. The structure, the organization and the roles allow them to stay pressing, keep playing together and keep having the ball. Lastly, there is this type of football that I call football from the plaza, fútbol de plaza, where you learn to attack, dribble, pass and play in tight spaces. You learn these interactions and these one-two combinations, but you don’t learn them through the repetition of patterns. You learn them through doing it for your entire childhood in these tight areas. It is play, pass and go, play and go, constantly finding the next interaction and then finding that moment of verticality. That whole sequence shows exactly why Spain are Spain. To summarize, they are constantly offering their teammates support. My initial feeling that collective quality outperformed individual quality came from watching Spain play together, always offering options to the player on the ball rather than watching the player on the ball do something with their individual quality. They offer an option, an exit plan, some way out in case it is needed. The players are also able to escape individually when the collective solution is not immediately available. They recognize the speed-up moments and, when they find themselves in moments where they can go forward, they go vertical. So, I'm just just going to go ahead and say what a lot of people are already thinking about or are already in agreement with (due to their own first-hand experiences) in saying that, ever since the unfortunate passing of the late Akira Toriyama, the torch of his memory which SHOULD’VE been handled with honor, now feels like it has been dropped by the very company who was entrusted with preserving his legacy. I love Dragon Ball. I have been a fan of this franchise for over 25 years. I have poured my time, my money and a large part of my life into this franchise. Dragon Ball has given me more than I could possibly begin to express or put into words. My passion and my love for Dragon Ball is real. But to me, I think that the heads of the Dragon Ball IP and the executives who call the shots have done nothing but stagnate this franchise into the void because within recent years, they have done nothing provide us with a clear and transparent roadmap to look forward to. There have been no new updates or developments leading up to the return of the Dragon Ball Super Manga and the next major arc to unfold within it. Which speaking of “New DBS Arcs”, they introduced Black Frieza for the very first time (from literally out of nowhere, mind you) which happened 3 YEARS AGO, in watching him close out the Granolah Arc, only to NEVER BE SEEN or heard from by anyone, ever again with the exception of cover art. The Dragon Ball Super Anime was abandoned in March 2018 (Yes, abandoned - don’t try and insulate otherwise). Dragon Ball Daima ended (with the English dub ending soon). The Super Dragon Ball Heroes Anime and Manga were both shit-canned and have ended. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was 3 years ago. Dragon Ball Super: Broly was almost 7 years ago. Battle of Gods and Resurrection F are both 10+ years old. The games are currently carrying the IP forward, but to what extent? The list goes on. And You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about as well because everyone has felt it and everyone can see it. The company behind this franchise and the figureheads who sit in charge of having to oversee it, are clueless, indecisive and directionless. There are NO EXCUSES behind their inconsistency, no matter how badly someone tries to tell you otherwise. I love Dragon Ball, and I'm pretty certain that YOU do as well. Dragon Ball deserves so much better. The fans deserve so much better. And Akira Toriyama’s legacy deserves to be highlighted for what it’s done and for what it’s grown into, and not simply kept frozen within corporate indecision, incompetence and greed. Just my two cents on the matter.

I recorded this THREE YEARS AGO today!!! I posted this video hours before the “2020 COLLECTION” drop on NiftyGateway — a record breaking sale that caught the interest of Christie’s and helped set up that historic auction three months later… It was clear to me at that time that people were starting to look at digital art in a very different way and that this process is actually not new, but something that other mediums had also went though where they were first considered just “craft” and then finally “art”. Since then I have been fully blown away by the amount of progress in legitimizing digital art that has been made. The strength and depth of this community continues to amaze me and I am humbled and honored to be small part of it along side so many innovative and inspiring artists. 🙏🙏🙏 That being said we are still VERY, VERY early into this journey of digital art being appreciated and respected and we have so much work to do and areas to explore. Our world is getting more and more digital so I can’t wait to see where things go from here as new tools, techniques and possibilities for expression are literally being invented everyday!!!! tldr; KEEP FUCKING PUSHING. 💪❤️🙏

Diagonal delivery vs L shape delivery. When I got up to 95, all I thought about was getting as deep into my back leg as possible. When I made the jump to 98, what I did was get into that drop a lot quicker. Now as I train to throw 100, I’m starting to think about it differently. If I sink too deep into my back leg, I create more of a drop and drive delivery where I have to drop first and then create energy toward the target. Rather than having it happen at the same time. Where I’m going down and out at the same rate. That’s the most efficient way to create as much energy toward the target as possible. One of the big fixes I’ve made is dropping into the inside of my back foot. Rather than putting force into the whole foot. This prevents me from getting too deep because I can’t get into a squat position when I’m putting force into the inside of my back leg. It also helps me create more energy toward the target. When you put force into the inside of your back foot, you’ll naturally move forward more than you move down. Pressing, transitions and goals in Canada! After the hiring of Jesse Marsch this week by Canada Soccer , there has been lots of talk about pressing and transitions in the football community. This is THE style of play that we have used for the last 5 years with Alliance United FC in @L1OMens and will give you some insight in how this can look. We went away from the 'possession' based 1-4-3-3 that everyone has been using as the 'best way' to develop players and win games. Many say this is the 'right way' of playing. However, we use the players' abilities and inabilities as the starting point and based on players produced in Canada, within our youth system, this is the way we think will get us the best results and help our players get to the next level. You need to understand youth development in our country to understand what is and what is not being taught to young players. This is not a negative outlook, it is just looking at the reality. Many mistake this style of play as just non-stop pressing and chaos. Yes, these two aspects are important but it is a much more deliberate and planned way of playing that is used to predict where the opposition will play the ball, where the ball can be dictated and what areas the opposition leave open for transitions when they attack. In 2019, I was introduced to Ernst Tanner former Academy Director of Red Bull Salzburg and current Philadelphia Union Sporting Director that has led the club to being one of the top clubs in MLS and arguably the best academies in North America the last few years. Both organisations are known for their pressing and fast transitions in addition to producing top players. He became a mentor to me and gave me insights and education on this style of play. He has changed the way I look at football. Every season we try to recruit players that can play this style that I will describe below and we do not waiver in the way we played. Every game since 2019 Alliance United FC have played either in a 1-4-2-2-2 or a 1-4-4-2 midfield diamond....every game. We have no secrets in how we play. We focus on defending, pressing, forcing teams into mistakes and transition football. It is important to understand that we do not care how much possession we have and we actually want the opposition to have the ball most of the time. Stats in football show that only when a team has the ball 70% or more in a match their is a correlation to winning. Anything less is not correlated to winning in a certain match. In addition, 80% of goals are scored under 5 passes or less and under 10 seconds when regaining possession. We follow the trend! So, here are some important points based on the video: a) Pressing higher up the pitch when possible. All 11 players are committed to the team intention (principles) and if anybody is not committed and does not contribute to this style of play, they do not play. There is no leeway on this. Either you are in 100% in or you are not. All it takes is one player to not commit and the plan will not work. If we do not win the ball on the high press, everyone is to drop behind the ball as fast as possible to restart the press closer to our goal. b) Based on the opponent's scouting we press certain players and decide if will press closer to the sideline and 'pin' the player to the sideline or we dictate the passes and dribbles centrally and 'surround' the player to win the ball in central positions. We also decide if we will sometimes drop lower for the opposition to advance so we can play behind them when winning the ball. This is done if we scout that the opposition centre-backs are slower than our two strikers. This means we will 'outrun' them in the space they leave behind. c) When winning the ball we want to exploit space behind their backline as the priority which means that a player(s) need to be passing options behind the backline and preferably centrally which is closer to the goal, players winning the ball has to look to play the ball to the player furthest up the pitch. Possession is not a priority but scoring goals as fast as possible is. d) When winning the ball we stay as central as possible with passes and dribbling. We use the width of the penalty area (44 yards) as the preferable dimension when transitioning. We want to stay within this width. The wider the team plays the ball, the more time the opposition has to block the middle. PLAY AS VERTICALLY AS POSSIBLE! The emphasis is to get the ball to the two strikers and play 1v1 against the CBs. e) We know that most youth players grow up playing against a 1-4-3-3 which means there is one central striker meaning the centre-backs one back press and one can cover. Against 2 strikers this is not possible and many centre-backs do not have the ability to play 1v1 with space behind them. They are not taught the cues to step and press or drop to protect space behind them. They are never taught at youth level. We exploit this deficiency. e) All 11 players must get up the pitch to close the spaces if we lose the ball from our attacking transition so the opposition cannot transition against us and we can counter-press. f) A goal is the best outcome based on the objective of attacking but at the minimum we want to get a shot on goal from a transition. This is a quick overview of a different way of playing football that Canada will see with the Men's National Team.

The idea that every few months we get an AI model that is better than the AI model we got before. And we get that by investing more compute in AI models, more data, more new types of training models. Now we have a second stage that's reinforcement learning or test time compute or reasoning or whatever you want to call it. I think of it as a second stage that involves reinforcement learning. You are a serf. You cannot leave your village without permission. You cannot marry without permission. You cannot sell your own labour. The land you work belongs to a lord you have never met. Your father was a serf. His father was a serf. You have been told your son will be a serf too. So you were told. But something had cracked 💔 The Black Death had taken half of England thirty years before. Labour was scarce. Wages had risen. For three decades, ordinary people had been quietly getting richer. The powerful hated it. Every law they made, the people walked around. Then John of Gaunt, the king's uncle and the richest man in England, taxed every adult the same shilling to pay for the war in France 💰 The Poll Tax. In four years, they tried it three times. The third one was one too many. In May 1381, a tax commissioner arrived in the Essex village of Fobbing. The villagers drove him out. The king sent soldiers. The villagers drove them out too. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 50,000 people marched on London.⚔️ The government said it wasn't that many. 🇬🇧 It was much, much more. This is not the first time 📜 It is 1381. England. You wake. The frost is on the ground. You are a serf. You cannot leave your village without permission. You cannot marry without permission. You cannot sell your own labour. The land you work belongs to a lord you have never met. Your father was a serf. His father was a serf. You have been told your son will be a serf too. So you were told. But something had cracked 💔 The Black Death had taken half of England thirty years before. Labour was scarce. Wages had risen. For three decades, ordinary people had been quietly getting richer. The powerful hated it. Every law they made, the people walked around. Then John of Gaunt, the king's uncle and the richest man in England, taxed every adult the same shilling to pay for the war in France 💰 The Poll Tax. In four years, they tried it three times. The third one was one too many. In May 1381, a tax commissioner arrived in the Essex village of Fobbing. The villagers drove him out. The king sent soldiers. The villagers drove them out too. You hear what happened at Fobbing. You hear what happened next. Essex rose first. Then Kent. Then the eastern counties. Villages emptied. In Kent, a man called Wat Tyler took command ⚔️ His first move was to break open Maidstone Prison and free a radical priest called John Ball. By the time they reached Blackheath, just south of the Thames, they were 50,000 strong. That night, John Ball climbed onto a cart and asked a question that would echo for 600 years: "When Adam delved and Eve span, who was then the gentleman?" 📜 They burned the Savoy Palace 🔥 Gaunt escaped on horseback to Scotland. The next morning, the king rode out to meet them. Richard II. Fourteen years old. Just a boy on a horse, in front of 50,000 armed peasants. He agreed to everything. End serfdom. End forced labour. End the Poll Tax. He had clerks write charters of freedom sealed with the royal seal 👑 You hold one in your hands. Freedom. You have won. The next day at Smithfield, the Lord Mayor of London stabbed Wat Tyler in the throat 🗡️ The king rode forward alone and persuaded the crowd to follow him out of London. Then he revoked every promise. "Serfs you are. And serfs you shall remain." 1,500 rebels were executed. John Ball was hanged, drawn and quartered at St Albans. The king was there to see it. The dream is dead. Or so it looks. But they thought they had lost. They had not 📜 The Poll Tax was never collected again in their lifetime. Or their children's lifetime. It would be 609 years before any government in England dared to try it again. Within a hundred years, serfdom in England had effectively died out. Not because the powerful chose to free their people. Because the powerful had learned what happened when they refused 🏛️ The lesson did not die. The Putney Debates. The Levellers. The Chartists. The Tolpuddle Martyrs. The Suffragettes. Every uprising drew on what happened at Smithfield. In 1990, a Prime Minister tried to bring the Poll Tax back. 200,000 people marched on London again. Following the same route the peasants took 600 years earlier. The tax was withdrawn within a year. Within months, the Prime Minister was gone. The powerful learned the same lesson. They always learn the same lesson. Every right we have today was taken, not given.
