Here's a history lesson for how great he was: Did you know Bird almost quit basketball? 🤔 After his freshman year in Indiana Larry was overwhelmed by the... massive campus and had financial struggles so he dropped out. He went home, doing odd jobs around town for income. Coach Bill Hodges (Indiana State) went to Bird and convinced him to give his basketball dream a chance again. He found Bird working on a garbage truck and challenged him, “Want to hang off a garbage truck forever?” Days later, Bird arrived at an ISU scrimmage in jeans, a T-shirt, and work boots. Hodges offered him sneakers and shorts, but Bird said, “No, I play better in this,” then scored 40 points. His brother later confirmed Bird does actually play BETTER in that outfit 🥾 Bird signed with Indiana State, as a senior led them to an undefeated season, and reached their first national title game, losing to Magic Johnson’s Michigan State 🏆 Imagine no Bird and Magic rivalry, that rivalry saved a dying NBA. People say, “You should generate evidence first, and then have confidence.” They have it exactly backwards. Restaurateur Jeff Zalaznick’s story reminds me of a young Larry Bird. People said he was too slow, he never played against tough competition, and would never make it in the NBA. At the NBA’s rookie camp all the rookies would play together. Bird said it took him just three days at rookie camp to realize not only could he play in this league, he was going to dominate in this league. “That's very similar. What I went through was exactly that.” “It went from: I can be like these guys. To: I'm going to be able to dominate this world.”

Fun fact: Guys used to have integrity in the NBA, they used to treat the game with respect. Stat padding was shameful. Larry Bird in a game in 1985 had 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 9 steals in ONLY 3 quarters. He was one steal away from recording the 2nd quadruple double in NBA history. He chose to not play in the 4th because it was a blowout, the media asked him if he regretted it and he said, “what for? I already did enough damage to them” 🔥 Stat padding is an embarrassment, anyone who supports it makes our beautiful game a joke ✌️

After the floodwaters began to disappear, a man noticed a tiny creature swimming in a pool of water left behind. He gently picked it up, and the little bird immediately started crying out. At first, he couldn’t even tell what kind of bird it was. Its body had unusual black and yellow markings, and its feet had strange webbed toes that almost looked like little leaves. The man tried putting it back in the water, but every time he did, the tiny bird swam straight back to his hand. Realizing it probably wouldn’t survive alone without its mother, he decided to take it home. He made a warm little nest out of a towel and gave the hungry bird small pieces of shrimp. As it grew stronger, he even filled a bucket with water so it could practice swimming, diving, and catching fish. Day by day, the little bird grew. Soon, it was flying around the house, and whenever it made a perfect landing, it got a fish as a reward. Eventually, its feathers had fully grown, and the man knew it was time to let it go. He took the bird back to the water and watched as it took off, flying low across the surface until it disappeared into the distance. But their story wasn’t over. The very next day, the man returned to the river and found the same little bird tangled in an abandoned fishing net. It was completely exhausted and barely moving. He quickly picked it up and carefully cut away every piece of fishing line. For a moment, he wasn’t sure the little bird was going to survive. When he finally placed it back in the water, it simply floated there without moving. Then suddenly… its little webbed feet started paddling. Within seconds, it was swimming away as fast as it could, heading back toward the open water. After everything this little survivor went through, it still refused to give up. This happened 5 years ago today. Idol had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and we were living day to day. I was sitting on the porch drinking coffee on this particular morning and saw something out of the corner of my eye. There was a little bird borrowing some fur from Idol to build his nest. I think he knew that was the perfect fur for his little bird nest. Believe it or not, that little bird came back the next day. That just shows what an amazing and giving dog Idol was right up until the end. If you needed him, he was there for you, no questions asked.❤️

University of Houston assistant Kellen Sampson tells PaperCity Magazine that UH point guard Kingston Flemings is a fit for any team in the NBA: "People say that Jerry West couldn't play today. There’s no feeling that can compare to winning a National Championship! 🏆 It’s crazy to think that 45 years ago me and my MSU teammates won a national title. I knew we were up against a 33-0 Indiana State team led by Player of the Year Larry Bird, so I had to make sure I did my part for my team to bring home the trophy. Being awarded Most Valuable Player of the game for my 24 point/ 7 rebound / 5 assist performance and having my teammate Greg Kelser show out with a 19 point / 8 rebound/ 9 assist performance proved two stars was better than one!

"The the elite shooting from mid range is such a big deal in our game, it's the late-clock ability, his overall size, his ability to play in the middle of the floor, which is really hard to come double people and not give up the three point line to a team like they have, I would just say his continued evolution in his game. "He's an elite, All-Star player, two-way player. I just watched him grow over the years, not just the championship year, but with Jayson Tatum, obviously out, more responsibility falls into his hands, and I thought they did a great job building around him for this particular season, with all the shooting that surrounds him." Recently, we had the honor of welcoming Scott and Janice Montross, parents of 2023 Inductee Eric Montross. 🏀 Eric’s basketball journey stands as one of the most remarkable in Indiana history. At Lawrence North, he won a State Championship, earned State Finals MVP, and was named an Indiana All-Star, McDonald's All-American, and National Player of the Year. He carried that momentum to UNC, leading the Tar Heels to an NCAA National Championship as an All-American. After a eight-year NBA career and a lifetime of inspiring others, Eric sadly passed away in 2023. His memory shines bright in our Hall of Fame, where he proudly shares space with his grandfather, John Townsend, a 1972 Inductee. Thank you, Scott and Janice, for visiting! It was such a joy to have you!✨

Imagine a man who believed in you so much that as they put nails through his hands and feet, he begged the creator to forgive them, "for they know not what they do" That man suffered immensely for you. The night before, he sweat blood. The following day, they beat him with spiked whips and chains until he had hundreds of wounds.... then they layed him on a cross and nailed him to it while they mocked him.... And the entire time, he was praying for their salvation. He was dying for yours and mine. He replaced a debt we could never pay with his own blood. Imagine if that was just a man. You'd call him a hero..... You'd hang ribbons on his gravestone and build statues in his honor.... But he wasn't just a man. 3 days later he rose from the dead and scattered his followers to all corners of the world to spread the good news. Christ is King..... and he is waiting for you with open arms to join his kingdom.

This guy went to the gym to play some basketball. He left the gym for a little bit and when he came back he noticed that his basketball that was by his bag next to the wall was gone. He asks around and no one seems to know. But, there was a camera on there so he asks the guy if he could play the camera back to see who took the ball. And lo and behold they find the guy on the camera. 😳 The guy walks over by his bag, stands there for a bit and then quickly picks the ball up and walks away towards his bag. He acts casual like he’s watching, waiting to see if anyone will say anything. Then he starts to walk to the exit door still seeing if anyone is watching him. And then he exits. A basketball. I mean, he's got arguably the young best point guard in the game. I think he averaged 30 points a game this year. Bron is, like, you know, the king on the chessboard. You know, he has a lot of all the pieces, all the right pieces to make the right moves. we all know he's, he's a great basketball, one of the greatest basketball minds to play the game. If you give him these type of pieces to play with, you know, I, I'm an early bet with them being the favorites to win.
