Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major National Highway projects worth a combined cost of nearly Rs.11,000 crore. The projects — the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) — have been developed under the Government’s comprehensive plan to decongest the capital, with the objective of greatly improving connectivity, cutting travel time, and reducing traffic in Delhi and its surrounding areas. The corridor spans from Kolkata through Odisha covering Balasore, Bhadrak, Jakhapura, Haridaspur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Berhampur, and extends into Andhra Pradesh through Naupada, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam up to Vijayawada and Chennai. This stretch is being developed as a four lined corridor to ease congestion and improve connectivity. The project will benefit major ports such as Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Gangavaram, strengthening cargo movement and logistics. The project includes 3 mega bridges, 58 major bridges, 416 minor bridges, 73 underpasses and 3 flyovers, along with a 2.7 km elevated railway line, with a total track length of about 458 km. Designed for high density, high capacity and high speed operations, it will address heavy traffic across the corridor.
