MMRDA has completed 250 metres of underground tunnelling for the Orange Gate–Marine Drive Urban Road Tunnel, powered by India's largest slurry shield TBM for an urban road. A huge mobility leap for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. India’s largest and longest urban road tunnel, the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, has just crossed a historic milestone. MMRDA has successfully completed the Thane-side portal excavation and lowered the 13.34-metre single-shield Tunnel Boring Machine cutterhead, the largest ever deployed in India for an urban infrastructure project. This milestone signals the start of the actual tunnelling phase of this pathbreaking project. The 11.8-kilometre underground twin tunnel will seamlessly connect Thane’s Ghodbunder Road with the Western Express Highway in Borivali, cutting travel time from 60–90 minutes to just 15 minutes, and redefining how lakhs of Mumbaikars move. Passing beneath the eco-sensitive Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the tunnels are being built using the most advanced TBM technology to ensure safe, efficient and eco-friendly construction with minimal ground disturbance. Each tunnel will feature three lanes, including a dedicated emergency lane, with cross-passages every 300 metres. The tunnels will be equipped with advanced ventilation systems, modern firefighting equipment, smoke detectors and illuminated LED signboards. Once completed, this landmark project will drastically reduce travel time, ease congestion, lower emissions and deliver a faster, cleaner and smarter commute for citizens. Major Project Update: Thane Coastal Road hits fast forward In just eight months since construction began, Thane Coastal Road-1 has crossed a major milestone, with over 50% of the foundation work for the elevated viaduct now complete and pier cap and I-girder erection progressing rapidly. 👉 The 13.45 km, six-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor is being built using cutting-edge engineering. For the first time in India, a greenfield road project is using a single-pile, single-pier system with monopile foundations on land. 👉 Designed as a strategic freight corridor, the project will decongest Ghodbunder Road and improve connectivity between NH-160 (Mumbai–Nashik Highway) and Gaimukh along the Thane Creek coastline, with major stretches on viaducts and bridges to safeguard the sensitive mangrove ecosystem. 👉 At Gaimukh, the road will directly connect with the upcoming Gaimukh–Fountain Hotel Tunnel, enabling seamless Thane–Bhayander connectivity. For years now, we have had to deal with congestion and the indiscriminate use of Douglas Road, Owerri, despite its status as a major economic artery of the State. This unfortunate situation has created an enabling environment for the breeding of different classes of criminal elements, thereby undermining public safety, order, and the smooth flow of commercial activities. The deplorable condition of the road further contributed to these challenges, encouraging abuse and illegal movements, particularly by motorists and street traders. Our decision to embark on the reconstruction of this strategic road is in line with our Urban Renewal Project, which is aimed at salvaging the City of Owerri from the looming threat of economic stagnation and reversing the gradual decline in urban development and growth. Beyond restoring critical infrastructure, this intervention seeks to create a more organized, secure, and economically vibrant city, and during my inspection of the project site, I could literally feel the fresh air of relief breathed by residents and users of the road, expressing their appreciation for the transformative impact of our Urban Renewal Projects. The quality and pace of work observed are consistent with the expectations of the Government, and I am pleased that progress remains on track for completion within the contractual timeline. - Hope Uzodimma

Metro services have commenced today on the 4.7 km corridor from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, with four stations along the route, enhancing connectivity and making travel between Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar faster and more convenient. This project, with an investment of approximately ₹6607 crore, will reduce the current travel time from 1-2 hours to nearly 30 minutes. In the upcoming phases, this corridor will be integrated with Metro Line 3, enabling seamless travel from Mira-Bhayandar to Colaba. With over 100 kilometres of metro lines now operational, Mumbai has emerged as the second-largest metro network in the country after Delhi. In the coming years, the network will expand further with the completion of several ongoing projects, strengthening connectivity across the city. The ₹18,500 Cr Tunnel Scam is not a mobility solution, it's a world-class corruption project by the Congress Govt in the state led by CM Siddaramaiah & DCM DK Shivakumar. It aims to serve the 10% car owning elite while burdening 90% of taxpayers who await better public transport. Here’s why: 1. Built for cars, not the city As per IISc data: - Tunnel (cars only): 600-1600 people/hour - Tunnel (with 2Ws): 7,500 people/hour - Metro (same corridor): 25,000 people/hour Yet, the govt wants to spend taxpayer money on a project for less than 10% who own private cars. This is perhaps only going to benefit the crorepatis of Sadashivnagar & Koramangala 4th block & not the common man. 2. BBMP's ₹9.5 Cr Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V DPR job BBMP paid a hefty sum of public money to allegedly debarred consultants for a bogus feasibility report. Some blatant irregularities in their reports - - Feasibility report created after Jan 2024, uses traffic survey images from Aug 2023 - Traffic junction photo from 2019 appears in a 2024 report. - Even worse, the reports refer to Malegaon-Nashik in Maharashtra while analyzing Bengaluru's traffic! This isn't planning, it's daylight robbery. It's a Rs 9.5 Cr fraud paid for with hard earned taxpayers money. 3. India’s most expensive road per km. If executed, the ₹18,500 crore Tunnel Road will be the most expensive road per kilometre in the world. Will they build it with golden bricks? Why this vanity White Elephant? The ₹18,500 Cr Tunnel Scam is not a mobility solution, it's a world-class corruption project by the Congress Govt in the state led by CM Siddaramaiah & DCM DK Shivakumar. It aims to serve the 10% car owning elite while burdening 90% of taxpayers who await better public transport. Here’s why: 1. Built for cars, not the city As per IISc data: - Tunnel (cars only): 600-1600 people/hour - Tunnel (with 2Ws): 7,500 people/hour - Metro (same corridor): 25,000 people/hour Yet, the govt wants to spend taxpayer money on a project for less than 10% who own private cars. This is perhaps only going to benefit the crorepatis of Sadashivnagar & Koramangala 4th block & not the common man. 2. BBMP's ₹9.5 Cr Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V DPR job BBMP paid a hefty sum of public money to allegedly debarred consultants for a bogus feasibility report. Some blatant irregularities in their reports - - Feasibility report created after Jan 2024, uses traffic survey images from Aug 2023 - Traffic junction photo from 2019 appears in a 2024 report. - Even worse, the reports refer to Malegaon-Nashik in Maharashtra while analyzing Bengaluru's traffic! Phase 1 of LPVT’s 3.08MW solar project is nearing completion and it represents something bigger than just another milestone. This is a factory powered 100% by “made-in-Nigeria” solar panels. No imports. A local factory, powered by a local team, using locally manufactured solutions. It’s a strong statement about where our energy future is headed. What stands out to me about this project, backed by Levene Energies, is their approach. As a vertically integrated RESCO, they are not only developing projects, they are catalyzing their own funding, manufacturing their own panels, and deploying them directly. That level of ownership across the value chain is exactly the kind of model that can accelerate scale and sustainability in our sector. The high-performance panels installed here will not only power factory operations but also extend impact to surrounding communities, demonstrating how energy infrastructure can drive both industrial growth and inclusive access. At a recent retreat with Levene energies, I challenged RESCOs to think more ambitiously, especially around opportunities within Nigeria’s localisation policy. VISIBILITY AND STATIONED VEHICLES. When driving and you suddenly sight men in uniform and guns, either soldiers in Army camouflage, police, or paramilitary uniforms standing on the express in an isolated area, slow down from afar and scan the area for proper visibility. If the road is a two lane express, ensure both sides of the road where the uniform men are standing are not covered with bush. If the both sides of the road is covered with thick and over grown grass, please it is a red flag. Before soldiers, police, civil defence, immigration or customs set up checkpoints or road blocks in the middle of nowhere, they will properly clear the bushes on one side, or on both sides of the road where they intend to mount their road block. They will build makeshift shades or seats. They may build makeshift shelter and create a proper space for vehicles to park. At a certain distance, the road block will be very visible to you as a motorists. HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT. If you see such road blocks, please check both sides of the road if there is a stationed vehicle of the officers. For such an isolated roadblock there must be a well branded vehicle of the organisation parked by the side of the road for easy identification, confidence, and protection assurance. If the men who blocked the road are on Army camouflage, you will see a well branded Army Hilux parked by the side of the road. If they are on police uniform, you will see a well branded police vehicle parked by the side of the road. If they are on customs, immigration or civil defence uniform, you will see their branded vehicles parked by the side of the road. The vehicle is for proper identification and protection assurance. Please note: on such isolated road blocks or checkpoint, they will never use unbranded vehicles, unmarked vehicles, or private cars. If you don't see a branded vehicle of the force parked by one side of the road when you sight such road blocks from a distance, it a big red flag. If such road block is not very visible from a distance, it's also a big red flag. HOW THE OFFICERS ARE KITTED UP. Check how the uniform men on the road are dressed from up to down. If they are on a legitimate stop and search or road block, they will dress properly from head to toe. They will Put on their uniforms properly, with boots. They will put on their caps and will properly shave their beards as officers. No overgrown hair, no dreadlocks, no long beards. If you see them on pam slippers, snickers, or rubber shoe, it is a very big red flag. HOW THEIR GUNS ARE POSITIONED OR DISPLAYED.
