@oxensportsuk It’s the kind of kit that will grow on me. Looks more like an away strip really and in this, the club’s 150th year celebration, I was expecting a modernised ‘old school’ style striped shirt given a 2023 update. Love the music; happy to see players exit tunnel to that!

Paul Clancy, R.I.P It is with tremendous sadness that we heard about the sad and untimely passing of our former double All-Ireland Senior Football winning player and Maigh Cuilinn clubman, Paul Clancy. Paul enjoyed a stellar sporting career with the Galway Senior Footballers. He tasted success five times in the Connacht Football championship in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005. The crowning glory of his senior football career was the winning of the two All-Ireland Senior Football titles with Galway in 1998 and 2001; ending a 32-year famine to return the Sam Maguire Cup to the Tribesmen. As a leader and driving force in his club Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn, Paul served as Club Chairperson from 2019-2023. During this era, Maigh Cuilinn claimed their first ever Galway Senior Club Football championship title in 2022, this was followed with further success when Maigh Cuilinn added Galway and Connacht senior football titles in 2022. One of his greatest club days as a player was when Maigh Cuilinn captured the All-Ireland Intermediate Football title in 2008. Over the past few years, Paul has contributed to numerous coaching roles. He served as selector with the Galway Senior Football team under Alan Mulholland, the Galway All-Ireland-winning U21 Football team and as a selector with the Laois Senior Football team under Justin McNulty. When I was still a student at the conservatory, my professors used to call me ‘Beethoven Girl’. Not just because I was the best Beethoven player they had, you see I had an unhealthy obsession with trying to get these notes to resonate at Beethoven’s truest intent. I read what he read. I ate what he ate. I engulfed myself in Voltaire and Kant to breathe the same air of Enlightenment he breathed. To experience the frequencies he could not hear but were realer to him than his own reality. I learned from his students directly — Wilhelm Kempff and John O’Conor. When I realized every piece of sheet music was altered by production for copyright purposes, I flew to Europe to get my hands on the First Edition of Beethoven Sonatas from Budapest. I hand painted this specific third movement on the walls of my dorm. I graduated the conservatory with this as my final performance and went on to use it for my audition piece to get accepted as a fine arts major in university. The piece in its entirety is 1 hour long. Here is Beethoven’s Sonata No 17 in D minor, the third movement—Tempest—performed to the enlightenment with which he originally intended. But a demo in 1992? What the “Number Man” demo shows is a young artist transitioning from his influences into his own artist. While Nas was undoubtedly influenced by on number of the late ‘80s era rappers, he is by and large a disciple of Kool G Rap. On “Number Man,” we here Nas force tweaking his style, intentionally tooling with rhyme misdirection and slant rhymes in ways that enabled him to break away from G Rap and come into his own. In fact, when this video was shared online, the blowback was apparently so severe that the OPP posted a video response of its own on social media. Imagine you’re sitting in your own home, minding your own business and enjoying the company of your family members. Then comes an abrupt knock at the door. It turns out the uninvited guests are members of the Ontario Provincial Police. And the shocking reason why they’re paying a house call is that they want to remove the home’s 102-year-old patriarch from a house he has lived in for almost 70 years. That’s what happened on Good Friday in Tillsonburg, Ont., this year. The cops were acting on a court order and had planned to relocate Jonus Veiraitis, 102, to a retirement home located in Cambridge, Ont., about an hour away from the farmhouse. Just one hitch: Jonus doesn’t want to go a retirement home. And most of his family members and friends don’t want to see him go there, either. Yet, there were the police knocking at the door and barking commands that it was time for Jonus to get into a police cruiser and come with them.
