New footage obtained by B’Tselem uncovers the moments when the Abu Haikal family was shot. Seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal was killed in the shooting, and both his parents were injured. The footage clearly shows that the Israeli soldier fired at the car as it was slowing to a stop. The car was far from the soldiers and posed no danger to them whatsoever. Moments later, in another video obtained by B’Tselem, seven-month-old Sam’s father, Fahed, is seen just after his son was shot. Fahed is holding baby Sam in his arms, trying to stop the bleeding from his head with his hands, while Sam’s mother, Daniyah, who was also injured by the gunfire while holding her son, is seen sitting on the ground, next to the car. Last Friday, 5 June, an Israeli soldier fired at a Palestinian family driving home from a family visit, as they sat in their car in the Tel Rumeidah neighborhood in Hebron. The family was shot as the car was slowing to a stop at the soldier’s command. Sam, a seven‑month‑old baby who was in his mother’s arms in the back seat, was struck in the head and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Sam’s parents were also injured by the gunfire; his mother is still in the hospital. After the shooting, the soldier who fired and another soldier who was with him left the scene without checking the car or offering any assistance to the critically wounded baby or to his mother. In the past two and a half years, Israel has killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza and the West Bank. The immunity it gets from the international community has led to a reality where, under Israeli rule, Palestinian lives are entirely disposable – even a seven‑month‑old baby.

The Olly Murphy-trained seven-year-old was last after the first circuit and looked in danger of being pulled up. He was being traded at 880-1 in running but started to gather momentum at the third-last under Bowen, who powered home on the far side and finished like a train from Vincenzo in second. It came as a huge shock to the Newbury crowd, including Murphy, who said: "Halfway round I promise you if I was standing out on the track I'd have hung over the rail and waved him down to pull him up. "I was thinking I was getting sacked halfway round having seen him drop so far back, and I thought Sean was too, but it was quite remarkable. Sean has an unbelievable amount of talent and I'm very lucky to have him as my stable jockey. I love working with him. It's a £100,000 handicap and it's fantastic. These are the races you want to be winning on Saturdays."

“My son, who was eager to get some mandarins and looking forward to eating them, was executed by their bullets.” A report published on Tuesday by Al Jazeera details how an Israeli sniper killed a young medical student, Hadeel Haroon Abu al-Qura, and her three-year-old cousin, Emad Abu al-Qura in December last year. Finally, after a long battle against the Bangla-Birodhi Zamindars, Sunali Khatun and her minor son have returned to India. This day will be remembered as a historic moment that exposes the torture and atrocities inflicted on poor Bengalis. Sunali, who was pregnant at the time, was forcibly deported in June this year. After enduring six months of unimaginable suffering, she and her child have at last returned to their homeland. It must also be stated that despite the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s clear order, the anti-poor central government failed to take any action over the past two days to ensure their immediate return. As a result, our advocates were compelled to mention the matter once again before the Supreme Court today. Only then was the return finally made possible. I sincerely thank everyone who supported this poor Indian citizen in her struggle to come back home. I extend my special gratitude to Mamata Banerjee and @abhishelaitc for standing firmly by her side and providing unwavering support throughout her legal battle.

The video for the track, which, like the song, had only been recorded and filmed in thirteen hours, only fourteen days earlier, was shown at 7 pm in the UK (2 pm in Philadelphia), just before Bowie took to the stage at Wembley Stadium. The single version of the song was released on 27th August, with all the proceeds benefiting famine relief. It topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and reached No. 7 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the track, a limited edition white vinyl 12" will be released on 29th August, 2 days after its anniversary, bringing together all of the song's mixes for the first time. 30% of the retail price from the sale of this single will be donated by David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Parlophone Records to The Band Aid Charitable Trust (Charity Number 292199). The original plan for Live Aid was to perform the track together live, with Bowie at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. It soon became apparent that the satellite link-up between the two countries would mean a half-second delay, rendering the plan impossible. Instead, the pair convened at Westside Studios in London on 29th June, where Bowie was working with producers Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley. The duo went directly from the studio to Spillers Millennium Mills in the East End to shoot the video with director David Mallet, who had previously worked with Bowie on the groundbreaking Ashes To Ashes video. MANY MAY KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE LAST POST, MANY DON"T. SO I POST THIS. Gentlemen, This is how the Last Post, a military band tune, heard by so many of us was conceived! If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which The Last Post was played; This brings out a new meaning of it. Here is something everyone should know. Until I read this, I didn't know. We have all heard the haunting song: 'The Last Post.' It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes. Here is the story behind the song: Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the American Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia . The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land. During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment. When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate (enemy) soldier, but the soldier was dead. The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier.. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army. The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted. The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral. The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate(enemy camp). But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician. The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform. This wish was granted. The haunting melody, we now know as 'The Last Post' used at military funerals was born. The words are: Day is done. Gone the sun.. From the lakes From the hills. From the sky. All is well. Deputies conduct welfare check on 68 year old women. Upon arrival they find an unknown house guest and true crime story ready to unfold in real time. 68 year old Monique Gilbertson met Daniel Roush (who also used the name Jazlynn) at a local Home Depot in East Las Vegas. Roush was experiencing homelessness at the time, and Gilbertson, known by her neighbors as a kind and deeply trusting woman, offered to rent him a room in her mobile home. In exchange, Roush was supposed to help with housework and pay a small amount of rent. The living arrangement quickly deteriorated. Gilbertson grew increasingly upset when her personal belongings began to go missing, leading her to terminate the living arrangement. Grand jury transcripts later revealed messages from Gilbertson telling Roush that she had left his belongings on the front porch and that he was no longer welcome. Investigators believe she officially evicted him around October 22nd the last time she was seen alive. After nearly two weeks of zero contact from Gilbertson, the mobile home park’s leasing office grew concerned and requested a police welfare check. When Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers arrived, they were met by Roush and his wife, Gina Lopez, who had taken over the residence. As Rosha was questioned at the door you could see his panic as he quickly began heavily stalling and deflecting. Standing behind a locked security screen door, he claimed his name was "Jaslin," that he was house-sitting, and that Gilbertson had suddenly left town to visit an ill family member on the East Coast. Suspicious of Roush's defensive behavior, his conflicting stories, and the fact that Gilbertson's car was still parked outside, officers demanded to enter for a walkthrough. Inside, the home was in complete disarray. Officers eventually located a locked chest freezer in the utility area. After getting a lock Smith out, they opened it and tragically discovered what was hidden inside. Immediately Rouch was placed in cuffs. Following his arrest, Roush claimed to homicide detectives that he found Gilbertson deceased, panicked, and hid her remains because he was terrified of losing his housing. However, state prosecutors painted a much darker picture of a crime committed for profit. Authorities alleged that Roush deliberately administered a massive, lethal amount of fentanyl to the victim specifically to take over her property and her lease. Police also recovered a large cache of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl from the scene. A Clark County grand jury indicted Daniel Roush on multiple felony charges, including: Open Murder Abuse of an Older/Vulnerable Person Burglary Multiple Drug Possession and Trafficking Charges His wife, Gina Lopez, was also named as a co-defendant in the broader criminal case. Roush remains held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, facing a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case is still ongoing though the justice system so we will need to revisit this once completed.
