The maiden Joint Services Multi-Speciality Camp, being conducted at the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from 12-17 January 2026 was formally inaugurated by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, #CNS, at Kavaratti, on 13 Jan 26. Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries have reduced gasoline production in Russia by approximately a quarter compared to June of last year, while emergency shutdowns at plants have also decreased exports of petroleum products. For the first time in many years, Moscow is preparing to import gasoline by sea, and the government has established a separate interagency task force to ensure fuel supplies to the regions. On June 28, Putin stated that the top priority for fuel distribution is the army and support for the agricultural sector ahead of the harvest. According to estimates from the Russian ministry of agriculture, the country requires about 4.7 million tons of diesel fuel and 630-690 thousand tons of gasoline annually to carry out all seasonal field work. The spring sowing campaign has already consumed nearly 2 million tons of diesel. Harvesting, autumn field work, and grain transportation require another approximately 2-3 million tons of diesel, with peak demand concentrated in July-September. Putin claims that current gasoline reserves stand at around 1.7 million tons. At the same time, the country is carrying out repairs at the Atyrau Refinery, entering its own high-demand harvest season, and maintains export restrictions on gasoline and diesel. Even if the delivery occurs, its volume will not have a significant impact on the overall balance of the Russian market. China theoretically has the greatest potential to help Russia. According to expert estimates, Chinese companies could supply up to 350 thousand tons of gasoline and about 100 thousand tons of diesel per month. However, the main obstacle remains financial settlements, particularly the risk of secondary sanctions. Sea imports from Asia can only be used as a temporary measure. They are more expensive than domestic production, require more complex logistics, and cannot quickly compensate for the losses from major Russian refineries. The geographical factor must also be taken into account. Supplies from China can primarily cover the Far East and parts of Eastern Siberia. Sea imports would arrive at western ports. Meanwhile, the greatest need for diesel fuel is in the agricultural regions of European Russia - the Central Black Earth region, the Volga region, Krasnodar region, Rostov region, and Stavropol region - where harvesting is underway and the main grain production is concentrated. This is Professor Ellen Rungani, the daughter of the Zimbabwean national hero buried two days ago, Brigadier-General Victor Chikudo Rungani. She is explaining how her father died, three hospitals could not provide him with a mere ventilator. General Victor Chikudo Rungani was 76 years old when he passed away at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare on April 22. He was honoured with a national hero’s burial at the National Heroes Acre. His wife, Senator Anna Rungani, is a member of the Zimbabwean Parliament under the ruling ZANUPF party, this is no ordinary Zimbabwean family, they are part of the pollical elite class of Zimbabwe. When the general fell ill, he was taken to a military hospital in Harare at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly known as KG6—short for King George VI, after whom the barracks were originally named. The military hospital there was so ill-equipped that it lacked the most basic medical equipment he needed, a ventilator. The military hospital could only provide a nebuliser, something that you and I can buy over the counter in a pharmacy. A nebuliser is a medical device used to administer medication in the form of a mist, which is inhaled into the lungs. It is commonly used for people with respiratory conditions such as asthma and other lung diseases. The general was then taken to Zimbabwe’s largest public health facility, the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, but still, no ventilator was available for him there. He was stuck there for days without a ventilator. He was subsequently taken to Westend Hospital, whose medical resources running into multiple millions of dollars were looted and plundered by government officials, including the President’s spokesman, George Charamba; yet again, no ventilator was found for the general to save his wife. Finally, he was taken to the ZAOGA church-owned Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare’s Waterfalls suburb. By then, it was too late. The general died there simply because the public hospitals had no ventilators for him to use, and as a result, he caught a respiratory infection that probably killed him. When I speak about the importance of equipping public hospitals, it is because moments like this inevitably arise, where people die needlessly. I say these things because these public hospitals serve all of us regardless of political party affiliation or views, Despite being a general, a decorated war veteran and hero, an illustrious soldier and the husband of a senator, Brigadier-General Victor Chikudo Rungani died because Emmerson Mnangagwa has deliberately failed to provide basic medical equipment in public hospitals, due to the corruption he presides over as the Godfather of looting cartels. The NovaVent ventilator costs only US$500, and a standard low end hospital ventilator starts from around US$5,000, yet none was available to save this illustrious war hero and highly decorated general whose wife is a ZANUPF senator. All because Zimbabwe has a corrupt president who does not care about the citizens and only cares about looting public funds and enriching his family and inner circle of his clansmen. Seven years ago, I warned Zimbabweans that the entire country had only seven ventilators, mostly in private hospitals. Nobody in politics and authority listened and did something about my warning. Two years later, after my ominous warning, COVID-19 struck, and the first person to die because there was no ventilator was up-and-coming highly talented broadcaster, Zororo Makamba, who passed away on 23 March 2020. His father, James Makamba, is currently a ZANUPF Member of Parliament representing Mashonaland Central Province. I repeated the same call again a day after Zororo had died. I reminded Zimbabweans that one Range Rover can buy 80 hospital ventilators, which cost US$5,000 each. Instead of hanging their heads in shame, Mnangagwa and his thugs sent me to jail without trial for saying these things. Since then, Mnangagwa’s regime has bought thousands of Range Rovers for his inner circle in government and state-owned enterprises, known in Zimbabwe as parastatals, yet only a US$5,000 ventilator was needed to save the life of the general! Very little has changed since I made my first call to action about equipping public hospitals with ventilators. More Zimbabweans will continue to die, in both high and low places, until Zimbabweans decide that enough is enough and demand and action sanity. Emmerson Mnangagwa and his two deputies, General Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, receive medical treatment abroad when they fall ill. The money they spend on a single hospital check-up in China, India, Dubai or South Africa could equip the military hospital or Parirenyatwa with ventilators and essential medical supplies, but they do not care, because it does not affect them! The stupidity of Zimbabwean leaders lies in their failure to understand that the money they spend on private jets to China, Dubai, India or South Africa looking for healthcare could equip all public hospitals with the very equipment they travel abroad for. They could be treated at home, and so could everyone else, but Mnangagwa doesn’t care at all about these life and death issues. The breathtaking stupidity of ZANUPF leaders, once predicted by Ian Smith and dismissed then as racist ranting, is now confirmed in Zimbabwe to the whole world daily. Now one of their own has died because they could not place a simple ventilator in a military hospital. Forget about public hospitals for us, the Povo, these ZANUPF leaders are so stupid they cannot even equip their own private military hospitals! What a useless and shameless bunch of clueless leaders! Things are so bad in Zimbabwean hospitals that South Africa had to evacuate one of its nationals by helicopter from Zimbabwe last week so they could receive proper yet basic medical attention. The tragic reality is that when I offered to supply this medical equipment to hospitals for free using my international networks and goodwill, the political class ganged up to demonise me, thinking I wanted to enter politics by helping people. To all those who did not understand why it is important to let those of us who have the capacity to equip these hospitals for free, this is your answer. Corrupt rule does not discriminate; it will find you regardless of who you are in society. You could be very wealthy, but if you are involved in a car accident in Murambinda or Tsholotsho, you will need emergency healthcare to stabilise you before being transferred to a hospital for the wealthy. You will not make it, you will die, along with all that money. Only because you didn’t realise the importance of equipping public hospitals for the poor and the ordinary when you still had the power to do so! I am sure you heard from the professor that her father, an illustrious war hero and military man, was taken to the private section of Parirenyatwa Public Hospital. This means that even the private section of this hospital, which used to be well equipped and where important political figures were once treated, has now collapsed too. Zimbabwe’s first post-colonial First Lady, Sally Mugabe, was treated there. The late Vice President Joshua Nkomo was treated there, as was the late Vice President Simon Muzenda. But under Mnangagwa, even the VIP section of this once-great hospital is now dilapidated and can’t provide for something so basic as a ventilator. Mnangagwa is so demented that he steals public money meant for hospitals, and when these high-profile figures die from his negligence and corrupt rule, he spends millions of state money on their funerals and burials. The state money used on the general’s funeral and burial was more than enough to have saved him and many other ordinary Zimbabweans, had the corrupt dictator simply invested in public hospitals. Meanwhile, the past, current and future victims of this man’s negligence are at the forefront of wanting him to continue misruling the country until 2030. Why, then, do we get angry when other nationalities call us stupid? Until Zimbabweans unite to fight this corrupt dictator as one, his political negligence and criminal misrule will continue to kill them one by one. Confidence Pro Max: Remembering a Brother, a Filmmaker, and a Warrior Nick’s untimely death is a devastating blow to his family, friends, and Kenya as a whole. We didn’t see it coming, even after he was diagnosed in October 2025 with hypocellular myelodysplastic syndrome (h-MDS), a rare bone marrow disorder. When we went to see him in the hospital, he possessed such positive energy, he was convinced that he would beat this. He was Rambo a "one-man army" and we all believed he could beat it, too. He never looked defeated, or depressed, even as he began to lose weight. When he shaved his head in November, he sent me a photo and asked me to call him "Michael Jordan," after the Chicago Bulls legend whose signature look was a bald head. Even in sickness, he found a reason to smile. I met Nick in 2015, before he became a filmmaker. I remember him sitting in my office wearing a suit, asking for my support to go study filmmaking in Italy. After completing his course in Italy, his first major project upon his return was the award-winning documentary Softie, directed by Sam Soko. The film followed my journey as I ran for political office during the 2017 elections, and Nick was the one behind the drone shots. We became friends, and I enjoyed a front-row seat watching as he went on to document important stories. One of my favourites was his powerful 2021 BBC Africa Eye documentary, "Street Dreams." He directed and filmed a group of seven homeless young men in Nairobi who formed the "Street Family Dance Crew." He embedded with them to capture their raw determination to escape poverty, police harassment, and family issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a story that feels like a distant world today; those dancers used to perform outside nightclubs in the CBD, but the city has since become a ghost town. Many bars closed down and replaced by restaurants that shut their doors by 9:00 PM. It’s a story that captured a time in Nairobi that is long gone. In 2024, Nick and I united as he covered the protests. While I participated in the demonstrations, he worked on an unnamed film and we often discussed safety tips. I was a storyteller before I was an activist, so I knew a thing or two about staying safe in the streets while documenting potentially dangerous stories. When Nick was falsely arrested in May 2025, for allegedly producing the BBC documentary, Blood Parliament - two of the three people arrested with him were working with me. I received a call shortly after their arrest and faced the difficult task of calling my colleagues' parents to deliver the news. The arrest was hostile; they were forced to hand over their phones and passwords, and when their equipment was finally returned, it was infected with spyware. What remains hidden from the public eye after an arrest are the cold cells, the degrading police interrogations, the court arraignments, the stares, and the judgment from both friends and strangers. Sometimes even the loss of clients who don’t want to be associated with “enemies of the state.” On a personal level, the trauma of such an arrest can lead to depression, alcoholism, or insomnia. In Nick’s case, his body crumbled, a hidden disease manifested, and before we could truly understand what it was, it stole him from us. His passing is an indictment of our failed healthcare system. Good healthcare is not free. We do not have enough blood in our blood banks and patients must organize their own donors in both public and private hospitals. Furthermore, specialized medical care is so expensive and out of reach that his family and friends were in the middle of fundraising for a life-saving bone marrow transplant in India. I am glad that he was able to produce his latest work, The People Shall, last year. The documentary is a first-hand eyewitness account of the events of June 25th, 2024, when a new republic was born. In his honour, and in honour of the hundreds of thousands suffering due to poor healthcare in this country, may we take our power back. Nick was good people. He had a positive attitude toward life and brought love and laughter into every room he entered. He could lift heavier weights at the gym than people much older and bigger than him. I had the chance to lift weights with him and his co-accused friends; he was so confident that he was the only one lifting bare-chested. World War I and II erupted from nationalist movements, much like the one Muizzu is attempting to cultivate in the Maldives by creating a ministry dedicated to nationalism. Muizzu also spearheaded a hate-driven campaign against India, a regional superpower, which he later confessed to the former president of Sri Lanka was merely a tactic to win votes. The aftermath of this tactic continues to this day, as hate-mongering weakens international relations and sows the seeds of conflict. Muizzu is not an agent of peace; he is an agent of division and war. His foreign policy has contributed to a less stable regional security environment. 2. People are losing their jobs in the Maldives, replaced by incompetent party loyalists. Basic health insurance for those needing to travel abroad has become increasingly difficult for people with differing political views. Justice is being systematically denied. The Criminal Court itself acknowledged that police negligence allowed a criminal to walk free in relation to a road accident. It is widely believed that you interfered with the courts to block justice for former President Yameen. Meanwhile, democratic institutions are at risk, thanks to the stranglehold Muizzu exert on the media. 3. Muizzu: Boosting productivity will be the key to economic transformation. This we will do by reforming and strengthening our institutions. Anti-Corruption Commission has been reduced to a shell of its former self under your presidency. A thriving economy cannot be built on the back of institutions that refuse to hold the powerful accountable. 4. Muizzu: Enhancing digital connectivity is key to achieving Inclusive development. We are using and expanding artificial intelligence systems to deliver essential services such as health care, education and social welfare. Proper digital connectivity requires fast, affordable internet, but the initiatives launched by the previous administration to achieve this have stalled under your watch. As for your claims of using artificial intelligence in healthcare, education, and social welfare—that is simply untrue. No AI systems have been implemented in any of these sectors in Maldives. 5. Muizzu: We are also delving into cutting edge applications of 5G technology, using drones for medical supplies, delivery and implementing smart road systems, and using AI enhanced technology for erosion detection and environmental monitoring. The notion of using cutting-edge 5G technology is also a fabrication, a lie. Utilizing drones for medical supplies is not cutting-edge; it’s a sign of failure to stock essential medicines on our islands—a national disgrace. There are no smart road systems in the Maldives, and no island is equipped with erosion detection or environmental monitoring technology. Which also is a lie. 6. Muizzu: The transformation can be sustainable only if we transform our education and financial systems. Despite holding a supermajority in parliament, there have been no bills or initiatives to advance fintech, nor any indication that the MMA has shifted its stance to embrace modern financial solutions. 7. Muizzu: We need to invest in digital literacy from a young age, to build a generation that can use artificial intelligence to enhance public service delivery. No initiatives have been undertaken by your government to invest in digital literacy, yet funds have been allocated to promote nationalism in schools. Muizzu: The result we desire is inclusive development, where equality of access to opportunities is guaranteed. Most development projects have been awarded to Chinese companies, even those that local companies could manage. Smaller projects have been marred by accusations of corruption. Even basic painting jobs from HDC have raised allegations of high-level corruption. There is no equal access to opportunities. 9. Muizzu: ....where every Maldivian citizen has adequate housing. As for housing, the land reclamation and plots and flats granted by the previous government have halted under your administration for no reason. 10. Muizzu: My government has launched $6.5 million loan facility IT specifically for women entrepreneurs, of which 25% is allocated to those with disabilities. The $6.5 million loan facility you mentioned for women entrepreneurs, including those with disabilities, never materialized. It was nothing but a campaign promise, and news papers revealed that these loans were temporarily halted by government. 11. Muizzu: Ras Malai this is my promise to the Maldivian people. Eight months have passed, and the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu project remains incomplete. At times, there has been no progress at all, as developers have repeatedly stopped reclamation work & this could be the status of the project for the next 4 years. This project is a financial burden to the country and there was no transparency at any stage of the project. 12. Muizzu: Tourism drives the Maldivian economy. My vision is to expand the tourism sector further. His deputy ministers have actively damaged relations with one of our largest tourism markets—India—costing us more than $3.8 million, according to industry experts. 13. Muizzu: But we can't keep doing this. We can't keep meeting, talking, pledging, but not doing. We don't want these days to come back to haunt us. The days when we had a chance, but not a will. When the previous administration made a similar statement in support of a two-state solution for Palestine, Muizzu’s hardcore supporters opposed it vehemently. Now, he repeat the same statement, ignoring the hypocrisy. He should have gone for one state solution. 16. Muizzu: The Maldives has always taken ownership and responsibility for its own development. While we have received extensive support towards our development, we urge the multilateral development funds, banks and bilateral donors to view us as your partners, not just as recipients of aid. Public Health Agency of Canada releases first report on psychological manipulation of citizens🩺🇨🇦 Under Chief Medical Officer Theresa Tam, the Public Health Agency of Canada has launched a behavioural science office and released a report on persuasion tactics for compliance, raising ethical concerns about transparency in how taxpayer money is used to influence public behaviour. Canada’s public health agency (Health Canada and PHAC) has established a behavioural science office (BeSciO) and has recently released its first report detailing its persuasion of public compliance under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer of Canada, Theresa Tam (Canada's CPHO). Tam, who also serves on various World Health Organization committees, has been heavily scrutinized for this conflict of interest in recent years. The report starts with a land acknowledgment and outlines the Public Health Agency of Canada’s progress in establishing BeSciO from April 2021 to March 2023. Launched in Spring 2021, BeSciO emphasizes the importance of human behaviour in public health and supported the government's pandemic response with critical advice and evidence. The report defines behavioural science (BeSci) as a multidisciplinary field that studies human behaviour and decision-making by integrating psychology, neuroscience, and social sciences. It emphasizes the importance of understanding psychological, sociocultural, and systemic factors that influence decision-making, enabling practitioners to create effective solutions that impact behaviour-based outcomes. It’s noted in the report that BeSciO has “joined forces with the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer, the World Health Organization, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Behavioural Insights Team, to name only a few.” As such, it’s important for the public to be prepared for the “crazy ideas” coming down the pike, as stated by WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus (Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus) during a strategic roundtable on behavioural science for better health in 2022. Tam confirms collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), utilizing their behavioural insights tool to monitor compliance with public health measures. The new unit says it is “indebted to the incredible staff of BeSciO, as well as PHAC’s Data, Surveillance and Foresight Branch (formerly Corporate Data and Surveillance Branch).” The report is signed by Heather Devine (Heather Devine 🇨🇦) and Dhurata Ikonomi (Dhurata Ikonomi 🇨🇦), but the rest of the behavioural science team remains unclear. Notably, while partner Impact Canada lists its behavioural insight team, neither Devine nor Ikonomi are included, suggesting the government employs behavioural scientists in various, less transparent roles beyond public health. Canada’s public health agency (Health Canada and PHAC) has established a behavioural science office (BeSciO) and has recently released its first report detailing its persuasion of public compliance under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer of Canada, Theresa Tam (Canada's CPHO). Tam, who also serves on various World Health Organization committees, has been heavily scrutinized for this conflict of interest in recent years. The report starts with a land acknowledgment and outlines the Public Health Agency of Canada’s progress in establishing BeSciO from April 2021 to March 2023.
